American Chippendale Period Walnut Miniature Chest of Drawers, Poss. Southern
American Chippendale Period Walnut Diminutive Chest of Drawers Possibly of Southern origin Late 18th Century Item# 130102RIG18 This is a very interesting early work of American craftsmanship- an American Chippendale Chest of Drawers. Crafted with diminutive proportions during the fourth quarter of the 18th Century. It features a single solid board top attached to the case with pegs along the rim, this projecting lightly over a distinctive reeded molding wrapping around the three sides. Chamfered columns flank either side of three graduated drawers with molded lips, each with replaced brasses and original locks(top drawer lock is period, we believe it to be original, but it might be a replacement) The sides of the case are likewise solid walnut planks, these almost certainly joining to the bottom of the case with horizontal nails hidden by ... morethe molding- naturally, we have not removed the molding to verify this, but this presence of nailed joinery is evident throughout the case coupled with a lack of dovetails on the bottom board. The backboards are undisturbed yellow pine attached with rosehead nails. The drawer joinery is consistent in the top two drawers. Slightly varied at the back of the bottom drawer. This variation would typically suggest an alteration or rebuilding. But in this instance it does appear to have been crafted as such originally: Top drawer- a yellow pine drawer bottom deeply chamfered to rabbet into the poplar drawer sides. The bottom nailed to the poplar back board with a neat row of four nails; front dovetails are nailed from the sides, rear dovetails are nailed from the back. Middle drawer- a poplar drawer bottom is deeply chamfered to rabbet into the yellow pine drawer sides. The bottom nailed to the poplar back board with a neat row of four nails; front dovetails are nailed from the sides, rear dovetails are nailed from the back. Bottom drawer- a poplar drawer bottom is deeply chamfered(though the shape of chamfering varies slightly from the other two. Note the picture of all thr
American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Tea Table, poss. Southern States
American Chippendale Mahogany Pie Crust Table. Possibly Southern States Last quarter of the 18th Century. Hairy Paw Ball and Claw Feet Item# 130101RQY27 This is an American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Birdcage Tea Table. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century. Possibly in the Southern States. The bold turned baluster relates to many forms seen along coastal North Carolina. Though it is a difficult piece to attribute with any certainty as similar works are also found in Philadelphia. More research would be necessary to attribute the piece with any authority. A very handsome work. The top is crafted from a single board of mahogany, a broad piece measuring an immense 37 1/16" x 36 3/8" It's sharp and well formed rim is carved of the solid, and from all appearances seems to have been sunk by hand rather than ... moreby turning, the craftsman planing this board until the outer inches of the rim remained upraised. These would then be carved and chiseled until they took on the form you now see. This is a highly labor intensive process and is more generally seen from shops with lower volume of production. We believe this table was probably in rough shape at one point in it's not so distant past. A condition that required the restorer to take apart the birdcage(note the alterations to the birdcage) remove the old rails and replace them and restore the cracking and loss around the base where the legs join the pedestal. As a result, it is difficult to be certain that the top truly is original to the table, though we do believe it is after closely examining it. The slideshow has many close up pictures that will allow you to determine that for yourself. The birdcage mechanism allows the table to swing freely. A small wedge-tenon sliding into the crevice in the top of the pedestal to lock the entire device in place. The pedestal is bold with a wonderful swollen baluster over the tri-form legs, these joining directly into the base in broad dovetail joints from the underside, locked in place with

Rare Small American Chippendale Corner Cupboard Cabinet Poss. Southern 1790-1810
Rare American Chippendale Walnut Corner Cupboard of Unusual Diminutive Height Possibly Southern States c. 1790-1810 Walnut primary woods. Yellow Pine secondary woods Item# 130304KPX20 This is a rare and very desirable American Chippendale Corner Cupboard. Most notably for it's fine diminutive dimensions. Measuring just 67 7/8" high, it is an incredibly attractive size and is simply magnetic visually. Crafted of solid walnut primary woods, this is almost indistinct behind a dry and well oxidized early surface- this beautiful depth and darkness is indicative of the love and care shown to this piece for the last two hundred years, where it was left untouched and unaltered in basically the same state as when it first left the craftsman's shop. With a complex projecting crown molding highlighted by the tiny teeth of the dentil molding. ... moreA refined taste is evident in a form that is distinctly averse to the overly-ornate. The doors are rectangular, solid walnut panels set in a through-tenon mortised door frame, the panels chamfered along the interior edges to rest comfortably in the frame without any joinery. Single pins secure the through-tenons of the door frames. The doors swing over original hinges secured with original hand filed steel screws, revealing a yellow painted shelved interior with lining around the back to support display of plates. Original wooden knobs open the doors and operate primitive latches secured on the interior edge with a tiny hand filed screw. The feet are scroll cut and entirely original. The back feet showing a cutaway to allow for the wall molding, resulting in a case that can rest flat against the walls without gap. The backboards are long planks of solid Yellow Pine secured with orderly rows of large forged steel cut nails. Every aspect of this American Corner Cupboard is superior- the refined form. The technically appropriate proportions and angles, the fine early finish and the untouched overall condition. Most notably though, the size is not dominating- it does not overwh

Rare American Chippendale Antique Chest of Drawers, Southern States c. 1780-1800
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING RARE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS. SOUTHERN STATES Over Pierced Bracket Feet. Possibly Virginia, c. 1780-1800 Item# 1402LNP15PC A rare and certainly unusual chest. This fine American Chippendale Chest of Drawers is distinct in it's overwhelming simplicity of construction and appeal and set apart by it's highly interesting pierced bracket feet. We have not yet identified a chest exhibiting the same form in the feet, but two pieces of seating furniture from Williamsburg, Virginia- both pieces attributed to Peter Scott- have nearly identical pierced embellishments to the splats. These are visible below or by clicking on"Literature" The feet are complex, the outer edges an ogival form interrupted by ... morea series of fillets; the last stretch of the foot is cyma in form, outlining an almost perfect inverted"S" before touching the ground. The interior piercing sets against this in a way that lends visual support to the arch of the foot. The top and sides of the case are each crafted of two solid walnut boards. The top edged by a thin projecting molding. The four graduated drawers retain lips carved of the solid, each with a single deeply chamfered poplar board set into grooves and nailed along the back edge with square iron nails; the brasses are replacements, though appropriate to the case. The interior displays an affinity for British tradition in craftsmanship, each drawer being divided out with a full dust board(also poplar) to protect the contents of the drawer below from dirt and dust as the drawer above is opened and closed. While it is not unusual to find dust boards in American case pieces, it is not typical and generally reflects an English taste among the patrons for the craftsman, as it is certainly a more time consuming and costly consideration for the craftsman. The back of the case is pure and untouched. Retaining it's original square iron nails in th
