18th Century Irish Gold Gilded Gilt Marble Top Console Carved
This is an Irish 18th century carved wood one-legged marble topped console. As I am neither a dealer nor collector. I guess it best just to describe it's history: It was purchased from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago by a local premier designer for $760. I purchased it from him for $1030. It was then re-gilded. Filled/leveled in gesso, repaired/reinforced with epoxy, regilded in 22k gold leaf, and then clearcoated in matte acrylic lacquer for $949 in 2002. The underneath of the marble top is signed by the person for whom it was commissioned. The signature is indecipherable. It has been stored indoors since a move in 2005. 37" High 30" Wide(marble top) 16" Deepest part of marble top I will do my best to answer any and all questions.

CONNECTICUT CHERRY CANDLE STAND, CIRCA 1750-1775 WITH A SQUARE TOP AND FINELY TURNED SHAFT WITH THE VERY BEST CARVED LOWER URN WITH CABRIOLE LEGS ENDING IN BLUNT FOOTED QUEEN ANNE PAD FEET. ALL IN A NICE OLD CHERRY FINISH WITH A NICE OLD PATINA. This is a classic HARTFORD COUNTY. CT candle stand from the Mid 18th century. The two board square cherry top has a nice bevel cut edge and slightly rounded corners. It has an elongated baluster shaft with deep, elaborate turning and THE VERY BEST CHIP CARVED LOWER URN. Classic HAND CARVED cabriole legs are dovetailed into the shaft and end in Blunt End Queen Anne style feet. The entire stand is made of native Connecticut cherry. The condition is extremely fine. The original ... moretop still retains its original cleat with its original hand wrought screws. There are other added 19th C screws and nails. It still retains its original wrought iron bottom plate. The surface was cleaned down in the later part of the 19th century and traces of the original red still remain. The Surface and Patina are wonderful. IT HAS ONE OF THE BEST PERIOD. 18TH CENTURY REPAIRS WE HAVE SEE, One toe was cracked and has been attached back on by three over sized Rose Headed Nails as well as a blacksmith made wrought iron support piece underneath. This repair was probably made by one of the early owners. The repair itself will last for another thousand years! For a similar example see. English Georgian Chippendale Birdcage Tea Table w/ Tilting Octofoil Carved Top
Rare Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Tilting Tea Table England. Late 18th Century Octofoil top carved with fruit& foliage over fluted pedestal. Cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. Item# 120109PTE08 This is a rather rare form. Carved in the manner of Frederick Hintz tables, though absent of any brass inlay noteworthy in his works. The top is octofoil in form, featuring eight shallow dish spaces circling a large central dish space. A table of this form would typically be used as a dinner table, not for tea due to the oversized nature of the dished valleys in the top. Formed from a single piece of mahogany, crafting something of this nature was exceedingly difficult and likewise exceedingly expensive in the 18th Century. A work of this nature would be found only in the finest London homes. Evidence of ... morehow it was formed is still visible in the piece, as you carefully look at the centermost point of each circular form- note the scar where the craftsman anchored his lathe to shave the perfect circle with raised molding. Each dish space is flanked by fruit carvings, each unique and different from the next- note the incredible crispness of each fruit, the attention to even the smallest details leaving identification of each fruit relatively easy: cherries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and plums. The table twists freely a full three-hundred and sixty degrees on the birdcage mechanism. Formed of four columns that through-taper the top and bottom, between which the shaft of the pillar comes through and is locked on with an angular through-wedge. This wedge is easily removed, allowing the entire top to lift off of the pedestal. The pedestal shaft is turned and tapers broader towards the bottom, deep stop-fluting around the entire shaft. Three cabriole legs dovetail into the center of the pedestal, exposed from beneath and actually formed such that no three-way bracket was necessary to lock the legs permanently in place. The Base and top are of a piece. C1800 and in excellent condition. The veneered top and inlaid chess board were probably added later as was often done: they are well matched and fit the piece very well. The tripod base and table top are carved from oak. With a rich, dark color and patina. Naturalistic, deep floral carving on the legs and rim, with barley-twist central column. All buffed to a natural sheen Table-top is beautifully inlaid: Dark Squares in Burr walnut and light squares look to be Maple or Boxwood. Decorative stringing inlay forms the border and further veneer is inlaid around this. Meeting the decorative relief carving around the table's edge. ... moreExcellent condition: Strong. Well built and in great shape. All surfaces are in excellent condition. Tripod legs are strong and the joint is tight- they look to have been re-inforced long ago with aneatly embedded Iron bracket discreetly screwed on the underside of the bottom joint(out of sight-see last photo below) Patina is rich and well developed, color is even. No unsightly marks or scratches. Inlaid table top in excellent condition- with French polish finish carefully restored to a perfect sheen(by an expert restorer) Table top holds shape well with no warping. Table stands well: level and with no wobble. Please Note: A good indicator of age in tables like this is the difference in width and length across the table top- in this table: 39.5cm vs 42cm. This is a typical feature of antique table tops and shows how the wood has contracted across the grain over its long lifetime. The two lengths would have been equal when it was made. Antique Cherry Wood Tables Hand Carved in the late 1700's
These two hand-carved Cherry Wood tables have been in my family since George Washington was President. They have been handed down from generation to generation and I have 2 of the 3 table set. Approximately 60-70 years ago. The third table was given to a distant relative and we have since lost contact with. The photo display both tables pushed together to make a larger banquet table. These two drop leaf tables have the additional swing leg making for a more stable. Larger table. Also note that the rope twist(or spiral turnings) are very tight and masterfully done. This table has large drop leaves, and the cherry leaves, which, of course are solid, are quite thick and heavy.

This fine early Pennsylvania German piece of seating furniture would fit right into the kitchen of the'House of Miller at Millbach' that is part of the Pennsylvania German Collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Mueller House' As it is also known, is an historic Lebanon County Home in Millcreek Township from the mid 1700's. And this handsome early 1700's Pennsylvania German Carved Boarded Stool/Stand that we have for sale would look splendid anywhere in that room. Made of walnut, maple and oak with a maple inlay on the top surface of the seat. Plank construction, the top, the box below the seat, the sides and the stretcher are all very thick, measuring a full 1"thick overall and all hand carved. Beautifully shaped sides and stretcher. So very Pennsylvania German in design. The eight sided top has a deeply chamferred molded edge and repeats the 8 sided shape again in the maple inlay. The early pegs can be seen on the top surface of the seat. Under the seat. The box shape has a finely carved applied molding at the lower edge. Nailed through the sides of the box, and there are small rosettes at either side of the legs covering the mortised through stretcher. Size: 20-7/8" high- 17-1/4" across width of the legs- Individual legs measure 11-1/2" wide at base Top of seat measures 17" x 11-3/4" Boards are all 1" thick Condition: Very Good! We are attributing this table to the Boston area, which may include Salem, and Newburyport, Massachusetts. Very fine table. Constructed if solid mahogany. Nicely figured 2 board top, with a spiral carved vase formed turned pedestal, terminating in 3 superbly formed Queen Anne snake legs with nice designed padded feet. Nice warm red colour. With a light shellac finish. We really enjoy fine tilt top tables and this table is no exception. The physical overall condition is excellent. With the wear and dings you would ... moreexpect in a 250 year old table. One of the batons that holds the top to the centre block is loose, and the screw is slightly stripped. This is a easy fix with glue and toothpicks. We can have this fixed for you. We believe the central block holding the top to the pedestal is a very old replacement. It probably broke and was replaced in the late 19th century. We are confident the top is the original top for the base. The legs are dovetailed into the base of the pedestal, as they should be. An 18th century round tea table in mahogany. It measures approximately 28-1/8" tall and the top measures approximately 32" in diameter. We believe it is American and we do not know the maker. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use. With some dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. The surface is refinished and this table would have originally been a tilt top table- it has been modified so that it stays upright permanently, so it may not be folded up. We think the two wooden supports adhered to the bottom of the surface have been replaced- there would have been a birdcage or likewise mechanism for the tilt top, so the table has presumably also been lowered(made shorter) in the process. This rough and tumble old survivor was discovered in an attic last week and it appears not to have been touched for around 100 years. The piece measures 26” tall x 22” across the fret cut braces x 19 ½” across the scroll feet and it boasts crusty. Scaling old brown surface with areas of bare wood and some dry rot on one foot. It dates from the middle 1700s and has some sloppy old glue repair on the center that shows white. It would make a great statement as sculpture or would be tatty-chic with the addition of a round glass top. It is most likely continental and is sturdy and usable as pictured.
