It is truly a nice period untouched table. It has a ribbon mahogany top, round corner drop leaves, heavy bold column four legged base, solid cast brass Duncan Phyfe claw foot and built in castors. I normally don’t buy period furniture like this, but I was very impressed by how untouched this piece was. The overall size is 40.5 inches long, 24 inches wide when the leaves are closed, 15 inches wide on each leaf, 52 inches long when the leaves are flipped up. The finish is very nice for being 180 years old. It does show normal nicks, dings and scratches, but I believe it would rub out nicely to make a good presentation.

Description: This listing is for an 18th Century American Chippendale Carved Ball and Claw Foot Drop Leaf Table. Pennsylvania, almost certainly from Philadelphia, circa 1770-90. Each board on this stunning table is fully solid single planks of Mahogany, each carefully selected for the best possible grains. They are hand planed to leave a flawless top surface, with an unfinished and uneven planed underside. The leaves hang from the table with hand crafted original hinges, uncommon with the pressure usually on these hinges, but a statement to the quality of craftsmanship in the piece. One hinge is a possible replacement. Still a period hand forged hinge, but of different dimension from the other three) The hinges are reinforced ... moreto allow originality and functionality at the same time. The top sits gracefully over its original frame. The frame has a most graceful form. With a flowing carved apron floating the front and back. The practical hand craftsmanship is obvious, where the cabinetmaker carved and finished the front of each apron, but left the back unfinished with evidence of chisel and knife throughout. Each corner is formed with a pegged tenon-mortise joint, while the frame- of primarily pine secondary woods- joins with dovetailed construction for a permanent build. The underside of the table is locked on to the top with original glued blocks. The frame sits over four cabriole legs, rolling with ease into the tendons and muscles tensed in grip. It has some of the most beautiful Philadelphia ball and claw carvings, with full details of the talons, stretched skin and sharpness of the grasping nails reaching around each perfectly formed ball. This table was carefully restored, when we did our best trying to preserve it’s original patina and time marks on the top are clearly seen. Because it is solid wood it was much easier to remove them and make this table like new. But we are museum quality restorers, not refinishers. Table is jointed with wooden pegs; uneven. Hand cut dovetails on the drawer and the way how it was constructed, along with early, rusted through nails makes us believe that it is a very old item, dating back to early 19th- late 18th century, but due to the provincial nature of this piece of furniture it just cannot be identified for sure and an exact date of its creation is unknown. It is a quality made item, well build and precisely fit, only three solid pieces of lumber were able to make it 42“ wide, which means that it’s wood came from about 300 years old tree; you will not able to find lumber this wide in stores anymore– all old trees are under protection of the French government now, hence they were almost all gone in 18-19 centuries, when France was producing only solid wood furniture. American Chippendale Walnut Drop Leaf Dining Table. Pennsylvania or Delaware c. 1760-80 Probably Delaware River Valley. Originally One of a Pair Straight Marlborough Legs Item# 130002IWT18 The drop leaf dining table was a very prominent form in homes of the higher classes during the Chippendale and Federal periods. A working solution to the problem of balancing space with flexibility in a home that entertained company regularly. It allowed for tables to be posed as pier or serving tables against the wall, making the room large and inviting during a social engagement, these being brought out as needed to recreate a dining room. This table was almost certainly part of a pair originally. Two sets of bracket holes on one leaf evidence of clasps that would have attached to the leaves of the other table to create a solid surface. A pair of tables ... morevery similar in form, though crafted with solid board leaves, was offered at Christies in 2003( Lot 322. Sale 1189, sold as a pair for $13,145) Intact pairs of this form are rather uncommon as these were regularly broken up as they were passed down in families. The top is crafted of five boards butt-jointed with tongue-in-groove joinery assisting in all but one leaf. This probably a later solution to the uneven shrinking of the boards, secured from the underside with butterfly dovetails. The leaves hang over ruled joints, lifting on two swinging gate legs, the frame and knuckle crafted of solid oak double pinned to the square Marlborough leg. The oak rails are affixed with scattered rosehead nails to the poplar frame rails coupled with one original hand filed screw set in wells into the top on both sides, these boards joined to the mahogany front and back rails with exposed dovetails behind the gate legs. Three dovetailed walnut braces join the frame to the top, these absent several screws, the top likewise secured with three hand filed screws set evenly in wells through the mahogany front and back rails. Charming solid oak drop leaf gate leg table in a country style. Probably dates to around the turn of the 19th Century but hard to be sure with a table of this type. The table includes a useful drawer that looks to be original. Although it may have had a new handle added at some point in its life. Table is structurally sound for its age but has two areas of damage to the top(see pictures) and could do with a little wax here and there- i have tried to show these rather than cover them up so you know what you are getting. But they could be remedied by a decent French polisher, covered or just ignored and taken as part of the history of the piece. Typically for a piece of this age there is some evidence of woodworm but looks very old. This makes a great kitchen or occasional table. Fits neatly in an alcove or at the end of a sofa, and of course ... morethe flaps give full flexibility. Dimensions are(fully extended) 42.5 inch/108 cm x 33.75 inch/86 cm top x 27.5 inch/ 70 cm high. Fully closed it is 14 inches deep. New England Chippendale Birch Drop Leaf Table with Scalloped Leaves Circa 1780 Wow. Here is a very nice table from circa 1780. Recently picked it up at a high end decorative arts catalog sale in PA. The table was described as being ca 1780 and as being made in New England. What I think makes is quite unique is the scalloped leaves on the table. Have come across this design very rarely in my 35 years of furniture dealing. The table appears to be made of birch wood. You be the judge of the wood type. It just has a great sheen and glow to the tabletop. Check out the one pic with a shot of the entire top with the leaves up. Just awesome. Great legs on this table as well with the design of them, not just squared out legs. I suspect this table originally belonged to someone of some stature. The top has dowel plugs where the legs and frame are attached ... moreto it. One side of the main top appears to have been mended at one time and a nice job of doing it was performed. The main top where it was pieced together has the seams coming apart. That is not splitting of the wood. A good master carpenter could fix that issue quite easily. The practical hand craftsmanship is obvious, where the cabinetmaker carved and finished the front of each apron, but left the back unfinished with evidence of chisel and knife throughout. Each corner is formed with a pegged tenon-mortise joint, while the frame- of primarily pine secondary woods- joins with dovetailed construction for a permanent build. The underside of the table is locked on to the top with original glued blocks. The frame sits over four cabriole legs, rolling with ease into the tendons and muscles tensed in grip. It has some of the most beautiful Philadelphia ball and claw carvings, with full details of the talons, stretched skin and sharpness of the grasping nails reaching around each perfectly formed ball. William and Mary Period Oval Gate Leg Breakfast Table Late 18th Century. England; one leaf replaced, feet probably replaced. Item# 120008SMT11 This is a table of unusual form with a simply gorgeous oval oak top. Each section of two solid golden oak boards covered with a wonderful wax finish, the leaves lifting to flush on ruled joints. The leaves have original 18th century hand forged hinges, though we suspect at least one of the leaves is replaced(see notes below in condition) The frame is pinned tenon-mortise construction over intensely ring-turned legs, each stretched permanently by a box-form stretcher, from which the gating leg on either side swings freely on a through-dowel peg. Rare American Chippendale One Leaf Table American Black Walnut w/ Shell Carved Legs on Ball& Claw Feet Probably Connecticut River Valley. C. 1770-90 Item# 130309GZP24 A fine work of the American Chippendale period. This is an exceedingly rare form. Termed by Wallace Nutting a"Sideboard Table" the form is generally recognized as a One Leaf Drop Leaf Table, a piece intended for display against the wall with it's exposed apron facing out. As such, the front two legs are highlighted with beautiful raised shells while the rear legs are unadorned. Crafted of what appears to be[not micro-analyzed] an American Black Walnut of well selected flowing grain. The top board and leaf both display a wonderful ribbing at the center surrounded by wide flowing veins; similarly in the apron and legs, the veins are large and run in distinct ... morechannels in a way that enhances the cabriole of the leg and does not distract from the scrolling scallop of the apron. While single leaf drop-leaf tables are predominantly found in Massachusetts. This table exhibits every indication of being of Connecticut craftsmanship with the distinct influence of Delaware River Valley tradition in it's construction and form. The sides of the apron are recessed, the inner edges of the leg posts being thumb molded and flanking the inset apron and knee returns, clearly reminiscent of Philadelphia treatment of this leg[see Kugelman. P. 136, fig 3.5 for a discussion of similar features on a dining table with East Windsor CT provenance and likely origin] Likewise. The pinned tenon-mortise joinery in the frame and legs is borrowed from this region. The intensely scalloped apron exudes grace and liveliness with a repeating lobe flanked by a half step[for similar apron treatments see Kugelman. It was passed down to me about 20 years ago and has been one of my favorite pieces. Unfortunately, I need to sell many of my antiques to help pay my medical bills encurred while battling cancer. I have used this table as a sofa table as well as the perfect dining table suited for 6 people. It is the perfect width and height to be placed behind a sofa with decorative objects on it. It also works great for apartments because you can keep the sides folded down when not in use and it still looks very beautiful. The body of the deceased was laid out upon. Or sometimes under the table, with the mourners surrounding it, either seated or standing or both. The idea was to protect the body from being snatched by evil spirits. After the service, the sides were unfolded and food& beverages surrounded the casket. The celebration of life then began! CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING DELAWARE RIVER VALLEY QUEEN ANNE DROP LEAF TABLE OVER TRIFID FEET Mid 18th Century. Top replaced Item# 1403JED22PP This table boasts an unusual and primitive form of the Queen Anne trifid foot. The shape a subtle transition between the pad foot typical to this period, though enhanced with some deep fluting that eventually developed more fully into a robust trifid. The top was replaced at some point in the last hundred years or so, the solid and broad planks of cherry remaining a quite nice and well patinated surface under a waxed later finish. The top is affixed to the frame with wooden pegs driven through the top into the frame. The frame is crafted typical to the region. The gating leg attaching to the gating frame with a pair ... moreof wooden pins locking in the tenon-mortise joint; the white pine frame is nailed to the gating frame with even rows of rose head nails, dovetailed on both sides into the scroll cut apron. The whole rests over softly cabriole legs. While not an ideal selection for the purist collector. In light of the top being replaced, the feet make it a very endearing and interesting example for anyone passionate about American antiques, particularly if you are looking for a piece that can be actively enjoyed in the home without worrying about someone damaging a pure and perfect piece. Measurements: 45" wide x 17 3/8" deep(closed) x 28 3/8" high; both leaves are 16 1/8" deep. Making the total span when opened approximately 49 3/4" x 45" Condition Report: Top replaced. Minor dings and abrasions throughout with wear isolated mainly to the feet. These heavily chipped and worn, but in a rather delightful manner. It measures just over 17" wide. With the leaves open, it measures about 44-1/8" wide. GEORGE II WALNUT DROP LEAF TABLE OVER BALL AND CLAW FEET England. Mid 18th Century, probably c. 1760 Item# 411BIR15P This table is noteworthy for it's very attractive size. The depth and quality of the patina and finish and the particularly handsome feet. Resting over handsomely carved ball and claws, each foot is full of life with the raptor talons stretching around the oblong sphere, the sharp nails cut with utmost realism as they scratch at the floor over the taunt tendons that extend through the leg of the foot. The two drop leaves and the top are crafted of solid planks of walnut(possibly a blonde mahogany finished in a lighter pigment, though the swirls of grain suggest walnut without doing any more specific testing) the edges of the top ruled to allow the leaves to easily lift over their original wrought iron untouched hinges and ... moresettle into place without a gap. These rest on gating legs, the swinging leg with an oak or elm secondary wood tenoned into the leg and pinned in place, rotating on an angular knuckle joint with a steel rod anchor. The frame is pine, dovetailed along the exposed gating edge and pinned in the stationary legs with later added blocking to more fully secure the joint. The result is quite effective, the table having remained in pristine condition after well over two hundred years of active use. It is particularly attractive as a console, stationed against the wall beneath a portrait or mirror in a hallway or side wall. However, it still remains a very practical and useful piece in it's original function, as a breakfast or gaming table that could be easily opened to entertain company and then put neatly away against the wall after the morning tea or evening festivities were complete. Tel: 01432 357753 Description: This is a beautiful 18th/19th Century original antique mahogany and oak corner drop leaf table of very good quality incorporating a secret storage compartment. The table stands on turned tapering legs with pad feet with a lovely decorative carved knee decoration with plain rails uniting. The rear leaf lifts up and is supported by a fourth leg(see photos) The main top section lifts up to reveal a secret storage area below. English Chippendale Mahogany Ball and Claw Antique Drop Leaf Dining Table c 1780
ENGLISH CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BALL AND CLAW DROP LEAF DINING TABLE Late 18th Century. Probably c. 1780 Item# 411ECP29P This attractive table was crafted during the last quarter of the 18th century. Probably in England though possibly in Ireland. The incredibly wide solid mahogany planks making up the drop leaves and the top of the table are absolutely gorgeous, each with vibrant swirling grains and retaining a deep ruby color. They swing over ruled joints on period wrought iron hinges. It rests over nicely carved ball and claw feet with rather precise details- a previous owner obviously wished the table to be slightly higher to accommodate chairs, and as such had the balls finished with 1" carved pads from beneath. They were clearly quite careful about preserving the feet, not altering the carvings but rather simply applying these beneath ... morethe table. Two legs swing outward to lift the leaves of the table comfortably, making the table a rather substantial dining room piece that should be able to comfortably seat six to eight guests. This is a particularly useful form for homes where dinner parties and family gatherings are common- it can serve very attractively as a console table in the dining room or a behind a centered sofa in the living room. But when an excess of company comes over it can be brought out as a full dining table. This flexibility is what made the form so prominent during the 18th century, where entertaining large groups in the evenings was very common. Measurements: 28 3/8" H x 22 3/8" D(with leaves down) x 50 5/8" L; 65" total depth when leaves are opened; 22 1/2" H to the underside of the frame Condition Report: Top is probably a period replacement. As hinge out out on underside of one leaf does not match the hinge well of the top. Surface overall is in good condition, though one leaf has some areas of clouding and a circular bloom in the shellac from a hot object placed there. Minor use indicators(scratches, nicks and abrasions) as expected. A splicing repair to the

18TH - EARLY 19TH CENTURY EARLY AMERICAN CHERRY DROP LEAF BREAKFAST SOFA TABLE
This is a fantastic looking antique drop leaf breakfast/ dining table. It appears to be from the late 18th- early 19th century. The wood is phenomenal. It has a fine old patina and looks amazing. The top is one solid piece of wood as are the two leaves. There is some splitting from age on the top but overall it looks amazing. It measures 29" wide when closed x 57" when leaves are open. It also measures 30" tall and 39" long. I have it listed as local pick up only as I do not have shipper offhand that I can recommend for something this large. If you have a shipper I will happily work with you on this. It may be able to be shipped via Greyhound too but please contact me first on this option. Thank you and have a great day.
