Fine English George II Mahogany Lowboy Chest of Drawers Mid-18th Century. Probably c. 1740-60 Item# 130002KJJ18 This is an absolutely wonderful find for serious collectors of Period Georgian English furniture- an original George II Period Lowboy Dressing Table crafted during the middle of the 18th Century. Almost certainly between the years of 1740-60. A pure piece with no adjustments or alterations, this is a very fine selection for purists and those with a preference for utmost quality in their collection. The projecting top was reset during the 20th Century, probably the same time it was refinished in a brilliant french polish, the molded edge scalloped on both front corners to give great shape to a simply gorgeous single solid plank of golden mahogany. The front and sides of the case are joined into the legs with a glued tenon joint. ... moreAll three being single solid boards with gorgeous grain selections. The front apron is scroll cut with magnificent and highly robust form, giving emphasis to the bold projection of the cabriole knee, the resulting empty space purely architectural in form. Three small drawers slide smoothly in and out of the case above this apron, each dovetailed at the front beneath cockbead molding, the backs and bottoms of the drawers nailed with small rows of iron nails. The brasses on each drawer are replaced, though correct for the period. Stretching from the top to the top. The legs are crafted of a highly complex single plank of wood, transitioning from the square corners into the bold cabriole leg before terminating in pointy slipper feet. The back legs are octagonally chamfered. Lending a squareness and masculinity to the overall form of the table. The back of the case is a single solid plank of oak, the interior secondary structure mostly pine with some oak- it is complex interior structure, a series of pine battens nailed perpendicular to the case on both sides and doubly in the center, one with an original rosehead nail visible. English Chippendale Mahogany Carved Ball and Claw Foot Game Table Late 18th Century. Circa 1790 Item# 130002IRP01 This is a wonderful English Chippendale Period Carved Ball and Claw Foot Antique Game Table. Late 18th Century c. 1790. It is a piece upon which no expense was spared in the production. As every design embellishment commonly associated with the period was executed on this piece. The mahogany top has a nailed quarter-round rim applied on both levels, opening on original brass hinges and untouched screws to reveal a replaced felt surface bordered by mahogany. It projects softly over the frame. This being covered in vertically grained mahogany veneers not just on the front and on the sides, but also along the entire back. This added expense of finishing the back leg surfaces and adding the thick veneers is typically superfluous and ... moreconsidered unnecessary, as the table would remain against the wall- this detail certainly hints this was a commissioned piece for a home of means. The frame is dovetailed pine, as evident when opening the rear gating-leg, the drawer blades likewise dovetailed on either side as they stretch horizontally beneath and above the drawer. The facade of the table has a single broad drawer in the center. The edges framed in tacked cockbead molding(absent on the right side) around the dovetailed oak secondary woods, the bottom crafted of five untouched oak boards nailed perpendicular to the face. The cast brass bail pull handle is absolutely gorgeous, an entirely original and entirely hand forged work of art still retaining it's original backplates, pins and nuts. The underside of the apron has applied gadrooned molding. Nailed every few inches from beneath with short iron nails, carved to match up with the outward flowing acanthus scrolls of the knee returns. The workmanship in the carved knees is exacting, the crisp flowing rococo lines simply sprawling over the sharp knees and down the leg as a natural outgrowth from the gadrooning. Rare Antique Folk Art Marquetry Inlaid Tilt Top Table
Offered for your consideration is this Early Folk Art Inlaid Circular Tilt-Top Tripod Table. This table came out of a very wealthy early estate. Who said the table was in their family for several generations. The top of the table has a scalloped edge with a design carved into it. The table has an outstanding detailed inlay on top, consisting of goats and some sort of flowing heart design. We are not sure what wood the piece is made of. It appears to be a birdseye maple veneer top with inlaid marquetry and a dark walnut base. The top is supported by a fluted and carved pedestal base with carved feet that resemble a twisted root design characteristic of Black Forest. The size and shape of this table makes this piece able to fit anywhere! The top measures approximately 20 1/2" in diameter and the table measures 29" tall. The boards that fasten on to the bottom of the top appear to be crudely cut on an angle for some reason, we have taken closeups pictures that should tell the story. There is a few small spots on the top where the inlay is missing. Also, the shiney finish shows wear and loss on top of the table and could use a refinish job if that is a concern. However, it still displays well, having a nice antique, folky look to it. The tilt mechanism amounts to a simple board that moves forward and backward allowing the table to tilt. This is one of the nicest early Folk Art tables I have ever seen, a must for the serious collector. This table is being offered AS IS, if you need any additional photos please ASK BEFORE BIDDING. Diminutive American Queen Anne Drop Leaf Table c. 1750-70 New England States. Maple Primary woods, Pine frame Resting over tapered legs and pad feet Item# 120011IQO24 This is a uniquely diminutive and quite attractive Queen Anne drop leaf table. Crafted of solid Maple in the New England States during the mid-to-late 18th Century, probably 1750-1770. The shapely top opens over ruled joints for a clean and broad surface- excellent dimensions for use as a functional card table or breakfast table, folding up as a wonderful hall table or dining room server. In 18th century homes, it was important that dining and entertaining furniture could be used flexibly for multiple uses, both functionally as a useful piece when hosting company, but also aesthetically to enhance the beauty of a given room. This table, with it's wonderful dimensions and ... morefine lines, clearly would have been a desirable piece in most households of the period. Originally this table would have been painted. Evidence still in the corners and crevices of a white paint that may have been the original color. One leaf is a solid plank of solid maple, the top and one other leaf crafted of two pieces of broad maple, all hanging over entirely original hand forged iron hinges- several of the original screws are still preserved in these. The table rests over a primarily pine frame, one leg gating outward on each side to reveal the dovetailed construction of the frame, the legs joined to the gate with double pinned tenon-mortise joints and swinging on a thick and heavy knuckle joint. The legs are perfect turned works, each perfectly tapering into a tiny ankle before flowing into the soft padded foot. This is an outstanding find for the collector and decorator alike- in excellent structural condition. Fully capable of regular use as a card table and serving table alike, this is a piece that if well cared for will last through many generations in your family. Description: This listing is for an 18th Century English George III Period Carved Cherry Dumbwaiter. Probably circa 1770-90. It features three levels of mahogany shelves, each shelf with a rim lathe turned of the same board. The top and bottom boards are single solid boards of full grain cherry, the second tier being a two board shelf joined with two butterfly dovetail joints from the underside. A three piece turned pedestal separates each tier, allowing the two lower shelves to turn freely. Three cabriole legs join the pedestal base with large dovetails beneath a wrought iron three-arm bracket with hand made screws locking the bracket permanently in place- the bracket and underside look entirely undisturbed with well over two ... morehundred years supporting this table. Each leg terminates in round pad feet over original brass casters, each undisturbed with original handmade screws locking each in place. This is a stunning find for that unusual corner space. Or beside a formal sofa holding a number of special collectables. Tel: 01432 357753 Description: This is a very attractive late 17th Century antique English oak baluster turned leg. Single frieze drawer side/ centre/ hall table. The table stands on turned bun feet, rising over this are the plain stretchers and lovely rich coloured baluster turned legs, having a moulded frieze and the drawer having a very decorative punched and chip carved decoration either side of the moulding and a matched punched decoration in the moulding of dog tooth designs. The drawer has pine linings and oak side rails, with the drawer runners cut into the side of the drawer frame. The table is surmounted by a solid oak top with cleated ends(which are a later repair) The table has a beautiful rich antique patination. A ... morelovely original antique country oak table suitable as a hall, side, centre, writing table or desk, of classic joined construction with mortise and tennon joints with dowels. Date: The table dates circa 1650- 1750- 17th- 18th Century. Condition: The table is in good condition for its age. There is some gnarling in one of the feet with minor distress marks to leading edges. There are some old woodworm holes and a little filler has been used in the side rail of the drawer. Nothing structural but worth a mention. The table is around 200- 300 years old therefore has character to reflect its age. There is a little lifting to one of the cleats in the timbers and the top is pegged in the corners, where the top meets the legs. The drawer front has a couple of pieces of wood'let in' over time. Again this all adding to character and authenticity. Stunning Corner Cellarette- Regency- c1820 This mahogany piece is superbly presented and offers scope to use as feature corner table. Cellarette, jardiniere or other storage. Reeded legs are capped with gilt metal collars and terminate in a fine original castor. They are in stunning order and provide superb patina and depth of colour. To the front there is fine mahogany. Detailed pencil line inlay and cross-banding to the perimeter. Gilt metal trim to the lower moulding is matched by the feature handle set with swan-neck over a pierced backplate. You can raise one or both leaves at a time. Tables like this were used to make daily dough on busy kitchens. But today it can serve the purpose of a kitchen table in a small cottage or even a dining table if you have no dining room– when leaves are open you can serve up to 8-10 people and when leaves ... moreare down it takes up minimal floor space. This table was carefully restored, when we did our best trying to preserve it’s original patina and time marks on the top are clearly seen. Because it is solid wood it was much easier to remove them and make this table like new. But we are museum quality restorers, not refinishers. Table is jointed with wooden pegs; uneven. Hand cut dovetails on the drawer and the way how it was constructed, along with early, rusted through nails makes us believe that it is a very old item, dating back to early 19th- late 18th century, but due to the provincial nature of this piece of furniture it just cannot be identified for sure and an exact date of its creation is unknown. It is a quality made item, well build and precisely fit, only three solid pieces of lumber were able to make it 42“ wide, which means that it’s wood came from about 300 years old tree; you will not able to find lumber this wide in stores anymore– all old trees are under protection of the French government now, hence they were almost all gone in 18-19 centuries, when France was producing only solid wood furniture. The table is a single plank dish topped table, standing on cabriole legs with shaped pad feet having a gun-barrel tapering column rising over, with a classic turned bird-cage rising over which is the swivel top having a later fitted mahogany toggle which has replaced the banjo catch that has been removed at some period during its history. Rising over this is a single piece mahogany top with beautiful figuring. The base revolves on the bird-cage axis. Condition: The table is in very nice near original condition. There are one or two distress marks. There is an old metal plate on the bird-cage top where the banjo catch would have snaped into. The table is mahogany with birch inlay and mahogany veneers. It has a fifth leg that swings open to support the top and is probably from New England. The table is 36" wide by 18" deep by 30" high closed. Opened it is 36" across by 29" high. It was once a gorgeous table but has some significant problems as follows: the top is warped and there have been some rather sloppy repairs. Mostly done with a shellac stick. A French Neoclassical Antique Side Table crafted of solid walnut during the last quarter of the 18th Century in France. Known as a vide poche. Literally translating"empty pocket" this form is often stationed by the door, designed with a small stretcher tray for holding the keys, wallet and other pocket contents. The top has a satinwood inlaid diamond highlighting it's otherwise plain rectangular form, a small drawer with a chased-brass knob sliding out to reveal two square compartments on either corner. The left has an original tiny hand forged hinge that allows it to lift to reveal a space inside. The right compartment is hollowed ... moreand empty, possibly either to contain a candle or an inkwell(though no ink residue is visible inside the drawer) Crafted of solid oak secondary woods, the drawer is hand dovetailed front and back, nailed from the bottom into rabbets on the sides. The table is raised on pierced lier supports. These tenoned into oak rails beneath the table with two original and two replaced steel screws securing it from beneath. The strings are formed with brass tubes that tenon through the top and into the base. It has a scooped tray stretcher at the base and rests over bowed legs. The interior is stamped by it's maker. C. 1790-1810. It is a very handsome piece, the top crafted from a single solid board of cherry with shapely scalloped corners and rectangular form. The back of the top is relatively undisturbed, every single screw appearing to be fully original and in it's original hole- they were likely removed when it was refinished, as there is not evidence of finish buildup along the rails, but each was very carefully restored to it's original ... morespace and remain firm and strong. Despite shrinking over the years, the table still functions without flaw, lifting and latching smoothly and providing a sturdy and level surface. The shaft is shaped with wonderful detail. Starting at the bottom in a succession of swelling and receding rings under the urn-form baluster from which sprouts the thin turned pillar lifting the square solid cherry head. The triform"Spider" legs flow out from the base, where they join with a thick dovetail, to terminate in plain square feet. The underside of the shaft reveals the rough unfinished joinery, clean and without evidence of nails or an absent bracket- as a result of not being secured with a triform bracket, the legs have broken out from the pedestal and have been restored at some point in the past. They remain in very sturdy condition as a result of the workmanship. An outstanding presentation. If you want to know 100% sure it is real like we think it is get it appraised at your own expense. Marked around the top of the table is the words"I Cartuga De Toledo 1611" In the early 17th Century. The"I" that is on the table is actually Baybayin Script for"Ka" which means"The" ... moreCartuga is actually Cartuja as that far back in history there was no"J" letter like in today's alphabet. De Toledo" Means"Of Toledo" in Spain. So put it all together I believe the top of the table translates to" The Church of Toledo 1611. Although we do not specialize in ancient languages this is what we have found while researching this piece and leads us to believe it is an authentic piece from Spain and dates to 1611. There are three markings repeated on the top of the table. One being what I think is the Coat of Arms of Toledo. Spain where it was made, the other being the family crest of King Phillip III who was king at the time it was made and the other marking is some version of the"Fleur-de-lis. There is a fourth marking on the bottom of the table which I believe is the marking of the Kingdom of Castile, in which Toledo,Spain is the capital. This table is made from wood. Brass and copper. There is some condition flaws here or there but that is to be expected with a piece with this much age. It is missing some tacks here or there. This would be beautiful professional restored. C. 1730-50, featuring almost entirely original hardware(chairs not included) Item# 110106IPP18 This listing is for a George II Period Queen Anne Solid Mahogany Card Table. Circa 1730-50. It features a single solid board top of highly figured mahogany, with turrets on each corner flanking a serpentine center form. This opens easily over two original brass hinges, each locking to either side with small brass hand made original screws, worn smooth from years of use. The rear legs extend using a concertina action mechanism to allow the rear legs to reach out in a perfect square. Forming a full card table for the center of a room. Each hinge within the concertina mechanism appears to be original, with some replaced screws on the innermost hinges. The ... moresecondary framing is oak, creating strength in all portions of the mechanism to allow it to last. When the legs are pulled out, a small shelf and box are visible. This shelf has a carved handle, allowing you to carefully pull it along routed lines towards the rear legs, effectively locking the legs in a perfect square while also revealing a convenient space for game pieces. The box is hand dovetailed front and back, and both shelf and box are entirely oak construction. We will note that great care must be shown while pulling this shelf out, to not jam it or otherwise damage the concertina action- this is an incredibly special piece, in that the concertina action has been very well preserved; these are delicate mechanisms and they must be protected by carefully operating them. When the top is rested carefully over the opened legs. A card surface is revealed with a replaced broad clean blue leather. It is framed in gilt painted tooling wrapping around the perimeter. At each corner, a glowing mahogany turret and scoop for game pieces break the surface. Antique Three Drawer Table or Stand - Old Finish Wood Pulls ca. 1820 - 1840
This is a great antique ca. 1820- 1840 three drawer stand or table. It has two drawers over one and stands on turned legs. The drawers are dovetail constructed. The top has a slight overhang. It has a dark grungy surface and I believe that it is the original finish. There are minor imperfections like what is shown in the last two photos. The upper part of the legs are simple and end with nicely formed turnings to a ball foot. I can provide more photos if needed. American Queen Anne Octagonal Candle Stand Side Table Boston(note underside suggesting a Newton. MA origin) or Coastal Massachusetts Item# 130003OFF16 This is a wonderful American Queen Anne Candle Stand. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century during the years of 1775-1800 out of very dense and well figured mahogany. The octagonal top is uncommon and very desirable, cut from a solid plank of mahogany with edges molded of the solid. Beneath the table, a chamfered batten stretches across the surface entirely undisturbed, still retaining it's original hand filed iron screws- the craftsman was generous with screws used to secure the top, recognizing the danger only a few screws could pose to the table top when shrinking and expanding occurs. As a result, the top is free of cracks or splits, retaining the same grain display the ... moreboard was chosen for originally. Beneath the table is an old yellowed note. Secured beneath nailed plastic, reading"Frank Morton from his loving mother Mary Alice Smith, Newton Towne, Nov. 15, 1898. while this possibly attributes the table to Newton, MA, parallels can also be made to design elements in this table to Boston and Essex County Massachusetts. The pedestal illustrates the standard design of coastal Massachusetts. A long tapered pillar over the ringed urn baluster. Beneath the pedestal is very attractive and quite distinctive scalloping, first in the legs on either side of the pedestal and followed in the actual shaft. The cabriole legs lock into the pedestal in the typical dovetailed manner beneath an iron tri-form bracket. Identified as a"triangle" in price lists of the period, this still retaining it's original rosehead nails. The feet are incredibly attractive, a bulbous snake footed form with an outstanding profile that shrinks sharply into the tiny ankles of the leg. American Chippendale Walnut Drop Leaf Dining Table. Pennsylvania or Delaware c. 1760-80 Probably Delaware River Valley. Originally One of a Pair Straight Marlborough Legs Item# 130002IWT18 The drop leaf dining table was a very prominent form in homes of the higher classes during the Chippendale and Federal periods. A working solution to the problem of balancing space with flexibility in a home that entertained company regularly. It allowed for tables to be posed as pier or serving tables against the wall, making the room large and inviting during a social engagement, these being brought out as needed to recreate a dining room. This table was almost certainly part of a pair originally. Two sets of bracket holes on one leaf evidence of clasps that would have attached to the leaves of the other table to create a solid surface. A pair of tables ... morevery similar in form, though crafted with solid board leaves, was offered at Christies in 2003( Lot 322. Sale 1189, sold as a pair for $13,145) Intact pairs of this form are rather uncommon as these were regularly broken up as they were passed down in families. The top is crafted of five boards butt-jointed with tongue-in-groove joinery assisting in all but one leaf. This probably a later solution to the uneven shrinking of the boards, secured from the underside with butterfly dovetails. The leaves hang over ruled joints, lifting on two swinging gate legs, the frame and knuckle crafted of solid oak double pinned to the square Marlborough leg. The oak rails are affixed with scattered rosehead nails to the poplar frame rails coupled with one original hand filed screw set in wells into the top on both sides, these boards joined to the mahogany front and back rails with exposed dovetails behind the gate legs. Three dovetailed walnut braces join the frame to the top, these absent several screws, the top likewise secured with three hand filed screws set evenly in wells through the mahogany front and back rails.
