This is a large 32" in diameter tea table that is 45" tall when flipped back and 27" tall when locked down. It has its original lock that was moved back about 1/2" an inch over its lifetime. Description: This listing is for a Highly Figured George III Period Mahogany Tilt Top Tea Table. Circa 1760. It features a single solid board top, hand planed carefully to create a perfect smooth surface. A thick varnish finish covers the entire piece, glowing on the top, with craquelure throughout the varnish along the pedestal and legs. Hand carved rails connect the top to the base, with a few remaining original hand crafted screws among later added screws. A brass catch on the underside of the table top still functions fully to secure the table in a resting postion, and appears to be original to the piece. The pedestal tenons through the square base. Solidly locking these two critical components permanently. The pedestal ... moreis carefully turned shaft ending in a carved spiral fluting design, then locking into the legs with tight dovetail joints. Cabriole legs curve down and terminate in simple oval slipper feet. This is a fine piece for any home. Working easily in so many scenarios within your home. There is a typical very old and stable seasoning split on its lower base that we will be addressing along with its detailing this week. The top shows a few very small finish blemishes(it is an untouched 200 plus year old finish) that will be covered in as soon as we apply the tinted wax and buff it out. Rare Late 18th Century Georgian Chippendale Octofoil Tilt Top Birdcage Tea Table

Cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. Item# 120109PTE08 This is a rather rare form. Carved in the manner of Frederick Hintz tables, though absent of any brass inlay noteworthy in his works. The top is octofoil in form, featuring eight shallow dish spaces circling a large central dish space. A table of this form would typically be used as a dinner table, not for tea due to the oversized nature of the dished valleys in the top. Formed from a single piece of mahogany, crafting something of this nature was exceedingly difficult and likewise exceedingly expensive in the 18th Century. A work of this nature would be found ... moreonly in the finest London homes. Evidence of how it was formed is still visible in the piece, as you carefully look at the centermost point of each circular form- note the scar where the craftsman anchored his lathe to shave the perfect circle with raised molding. Each dish space is flanked by fruit carvings, each unique and different from the next- note the incredible crispness of each fruit, the attention to even the smallest details leaving identification of each fruit relatively easy: cherries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and plums. The table twists freely a full three-hundred and sixty degrees on the birdcage mechanism. Formed of four columns that through-taper the top and bottom, between which the shaft of the pillar comes through and is locked on with an angular through-wedge. This wedge is easily removed, allowing the entire top to lift off of the pedestal. The pedestal shaft is turned and tapers broader towards the bottom, deep stop-fluting around the entire shaft. Three cabriole legs dovetail into the center of the pedestal, exposed from beneath and actually formed such that no three-way bracket was necessary to lock the legs permanently in place. The kn

Fine American Queen Anne Serpentine Top Tilting Tea Table In the manner of Joseph Short(1771-1819) Probably North Shore. Massachusetts- possibly Connecticut Item# 130006RUP13 Possibly by Joseph Short(1771-1819) of Newburyport. MA or a contemporary during the same period, this fine American Queen Anne Tilting Top Tea Table is an unusually attractive specimen. The top is an incredibly broad single plank of Birch with a molded edge carved of the solid in a soft reverse serpentine. Generally these tops are of at least two boards, sometimes with a small third board making up the edge- to be crafted of a full single plank and still maintain the original cleats and smooth function is quite a feat; shrinking and expanding can often have dire consequences on the cleats, resulting in a top that is either cracked or too compressed against the square ... morehead of the pedestal to be functional. Surviving in excellent condition. The table maintains it's original untouched cleats, mostly original screws, original brass latch(and period replaced clasp on the square head of the pedestal) and original tri-form iron bracket beneath the feet. The square pedestal head is a block of cherry chamfered along the underside, the pedestal tenoned through it in a square. The solid cherry pedestal is robust with a wonderful swollen baluster beneath tight ring turnings and over three cabriole legs that terminate in raised pad feet. The legs intersect with the base in soft scalloping that works to soften the flow of the joint, these joining into the pedestal with large dovetails. Finished with a glossy and attractive wax over shellac. The worn and oxidized patina of the wood maintains it's preserved glow and character. Antique New England Scalloped Tilt Top Tea Table
This Tilt Top table has been in my family for over 250 years- we no longer have space for it and. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in with our new South West home's decor. We brought it from Maine to New Mexico hoping we could use it but it just doesn't fit and none of the family has interest in it. We would love for the table to find a home where it will be appreciated for the next 250 years. There is documentation of its original owner. It is an excellent example of an early American piece of fine furniture. It is most likely from New England and the scalloped top is typical of other New England tilt tops. A very similar Massachusetts tilt top table sold at Christie's NY Auction. October 1983 was dated at around 1765-1785. The hand-forged iron brace under the legs is original- not a repair. Very Fine Antique English Georgian Mahogany Tilt Top Tea Table Circa 1780's Very meaty heavy table! 2 board top Nicely cut and proportioned legs and feet Good table Fits nicely into a chic city apartment. Or a country primitive house with a more formal parlour. Top has been off of the center mounting block. And reglued. No real damage done, the block probably dried out and cracked, then somebody reinforced with dowel rods, and reset the block back onto the pedestal. This repair was most likely done 30-40 years ago. There is no reserve on this lovely antique Queen Anne tilt top tea table candle stand with bird cage from the late 18th century. The bird cage support allows the table to rotate and tilt. I believe this table is maple. It is 24 1/2 inches high. The top is out of round. Proving age and measures 17 5/8 inches in one direction and 17 3/8 in another. This happens with shrinkage due to the age of the table. There is a hand made wooden peg that holds the bird cage in place. Table tilts easily and locks in position. It is in excellent condition. Beautiful Mahogany Tip Top Tea Table. This is a gorgeous old table. It is made of solid mahogany wood and has a beautiful patina. The most amazing part of this table is the top piece is all one piece. This one piece even includes the raised edge. Someone hand carved this round flat smooth table top out of one piece of beautiful mahogany wood. The wood has seen the test of time. It has split at one point but it was professionally repaired. If you look closely at the pictures you can see some minor shrinkage and a small split. I do not think it detracts from the age and beauty of this piece. The base isn't too shabby either. The feet have had extra pads put on them and they have been blended in well. Antique American Maple Tilt Top Tea Table mid to late 1700's snakehead feet
Very old antique tilt top table. Queen Anne style. Beautiful legs and pedestal. The top has been hand refinished by me, using very fine grade sand paper to remove old blotchy finish. I did a good job gently fine tuning the top but am not happy with the lighter stain or un smooth sealer. I know the top is maple. I put a mahogany stain on it to match the stain on pedestal and legs. So the base could be mahogany or it very well could be maple as well. There have been repairs to the top of square piece of wood that sits atop pedestal, and bottom of table top where it is joined to the square piece that has the tilting mechanism. I see lots of repairs when I look at bottom of table top.newer screws, etc. I tried showing all detail in photos. I put a satin Varathane type sealer on top but it left tiny bubbles, which I tried sanding out but the finish ... moreis quite hard and won't take a"very fine" grade sand paper so there are flaws in finish. The color of top matches bottom pretty well but it is quite a bit lighter and not as opaque as the bottom part of table.the grain shows more on top. Round top measures 31 3/8" by 32 3/8" age shrinkage has caused it to be not perfectly round) The height is approximately 28" The top needs to be propped up on one end in order to get it to be level. The pedestal and legs seem to be in wonderful condition.sturdy. Not wobbly but that could be because there is that metal plate that has been hammered into place at bottom of base where the legs are joined. Don't know if that hammered tin is original or repair. Will be happy to ship if buyer arranges everything!

Highly Figured Mahogany Period 1750 American Queen Anne Tilt-top Tea Table
Gorgeous figured Santo Domingo mahogany 18th Century Queen Anne Birdcage Tilt Top Tea Table or Breakfast table. C.1740-1750, likely made in either Pennsylvania or southern New England. A great double ball column with deep color, the Connecticut River Valley somewhere between Springfield MA and Hartford CT, perhaps Deerfield, MA, with arched legs, substantial, yet delicate snake feet and a stunning figured mahogany top. Legs seemed to have been refinished lighter than the shaft. Great patina to the entire piece. Great form and presence- Great form- with an unusual column. Size is perfect for a breakfast table. At 28" high, and 35"x35.5" in length and width of the top. This is a high quality 18th century antique, and they are not perfect. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Shipping is $100 east of Kansas. Gorgeous Period 1750 Queen Anne Ct. River Valley Tilt top Tea Table
Gorgeous 18th Century Queen Anne Tilt Top Tea Table or Breakfast table. C.1740-1750, likely made in the Connecticut River Valley somewhere between Springfield MA and Hartford CT, perhaps Deerfield, MA, with high arched legs, delicate snake feet, typical MA type urn shaped column. Legs and column are maple with a slight curl in a couple of spots. Old properly worn finish on base and underside of top. Two board Butternut Top was scrubbed and refinished maybe 50 years ago, with a light coat of paste wax finish. Great patina to the entire piece. Great form and presence- handkerchief form is unusual and sought after. Size is perfect for a breakfast table. At 29.5" high, and 30.5"x30.75" in length and width of the top. Hingeblock is either white oak or chestnut. This was my first early American antique furniture, and I have had it ... moreand lovingly used it for 32 years. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
