18th CENTURY QUEEN ANNE BOSTON TIP TOP TEA TABLE IN MAHOGANY AND ORIGINAL FINISH With our pleasure we are proud to offer you this lovely 18th Century Boston solid Cuban mahogany Queen Anne period tip top tea table in a desirable original first finish and dry surface. This is a large 32" in diameter tea table that is 45" tall when flipped back and 27" tall when locked down. It has its original lock that was moved back about 1/2" an inch over its lifetime. A very common trait when the retaining screws pull loose the bottom of the tables' tilting top. This is a wonderful period Boston table with a twist carved pedestal. Scalloped carved base bottom and some of the nicest formed pad feet we have seen in the large number of 18th Century tea tables we have sold over the last several years. ca. 1760 Queen Anne Tilt Top Tripod Table Solid Mahogany.
This table is very clean and is made from solid mahogany. The legs are completely hand carved and the top of the table is hand cut. The craftsmanship that went into this piece is outstanding. It is from about 1760 and over time has developed pleasing wear. The condition is good overall. But there is a crack in one of the legs, but it does not affect the integrity and stability of the table. The tilt top works, and the lock is original, but has one of the screws replaced. This piece is in its first surface first finish and has wonderful structural integrity. We note that someone added approximately 6" on the width of each leaf about a century ago. They simply needed a wider table to seat more people. We received this piece having a small separation in its top plank that we had our woodworker close up. It is made with pegged construction fastening all its tenoned joints. The table employs wonderful solid wide plank crotched mahogany in its construction. It is 41 1/2" long. 18 1/4" wide, 50 1/2" with its leaves locked open and stands 28" tall. ... moreIt has gate legs that support its leaves with large carved wooden hinges and gambled shaped cut outs on each end of the table. We note some ancient(about 150 years old) insect damages to one piece of the pine secondary woods on the table's box but its just fine. CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN QUEEN ANNE MAHOGANY ROUND TEA TABLE Philadelphia or surrounding counties. C. 1750-90 Item# 1404PWP20Z This is a highly satisfying table. The form remaining restrained and austere by choice, the whole certainly indicative of a rather skilled craftsman. The dish top is lathe-turned from a single solid plank of mahogany, the molded rim lifted from the solid through the lathe process; the back of the plank retains the marks where the board was affixed to the lathe, then spun until the edge was of a satisfactory height. This edge is carefully carved to raise a single large bead flanked by scratched channels and coves on either side. The back of the top wears a pair of original cleats affixed with eight screws(four original, ... morefour replaced) these bevelled along the edges and tapering on either end and shaped to the round of the top. The birdcage structure is entirely mahogany. The top board of this box extending in a pair of dowels at the backside into the cleats, forming a hinge for the top to smoothly lift vertically for display; four pillars tenon through the top and bottom board and are secured in place with tiny wedge tenons driven through the ends. The flange of the pedestal rises through the birdcage and the ringed collar inside, locked in place with a tiny mahogany wedge- this appears to be original, but these frequently are lost and are replaced. This device allowed the top to spin freely in a"lazy Susan" manner for easy serving of tea to guests. The pedestal has a slow swelling to the baluster with a scratched channel circling it's midriff. The full post divided with a series of tight ring turnings. The cabriole legs sink into the pedestal with oversized dovetails and terminate over rounded pad feet with chiseled out beveled edges. Lovely little Queen Anne snake foot candlestand in mahogany. This has either the original surface or an extremely old refinish. You can see the hand planing marks and the tenon is a square tenon. All the screws are original old screws and there is no damage or repair to the piece. Lovely smooth as glass surface from years of polishing. It would probably be best to remove the top in shipping but I will leave that up to the buyer. It measures 29" high. The top is 14 1/2" by 28" and it is 7" high to the kick-up of the base. If you notice the one negative feedback listed for damage in shipping. Please take into account that the person's idea of damage was some minor scuffing to the book spine and he sent extremely abusive emails threatening a negative feedback if I didn't discount the price. FINE AMERICAN QUEEN ANNE MAHOGANY TILT TOP TABLE. SOUTHERN STATES Chowan County. North Carolina; probably Edenton; c. 1750-80 Item# 409JPP04Z An exceptional surviving example in nearly untouched condition other than the fine finish. This American Queen Anne Round Tilting Top Tea Table is closely associated with a small grouping of furniture from the coastal North Carolina, particularly Edenton. The work center is distinct for it's use of a dovetailed box instead of a birdcage with pillars as the rotating and tilting functionary, a technique founded in British furniture but only known to have been employed in American furniture of coastal North Carolina, specifically Chowan County. Further related are the uses of a large turned boss in place of a tri-form iron bracket beneath the pedestal to secure the dovetailed legs to the base and the ... morescrolled volute leg returns at the juncture of the leg and pedestal. This is only hinted at in the present example, the soft roundel left unembellished as a simple scroll along the interior edge of each leg. Like most of the tables identified from this work center, the top is a thick and broad beautifully grained solid plank of mahogany, affixed to the dovetailed mahogany box on a pair of blunt ended cleats with original screws flanking projecting dowels from the box. The pedestal is striking for it's compressed urn and tight ring turnings beneath an elongated shaft. The legs have a soft and highly effective profile. The cabriole flowing into a rounded foot over thin pads of the solid. The table is preserved in outstanding condition with many layers of later finish over early color and deep patina, retaining it's original iron tombstone latch and brass catch with it's original hand filed steel screws, likewise with original unmoved cleats and most of it's original screws. I grew up with"Don't set that on that table! I've done the same with my kids. This Queen Anne has the traditional padded slipper/snake feet and tripod base. The top- a single. Square board- is attached to the shaft utilizing a chamferred cleat. Its slender shaft tapers into ringed urn turnings at the top of the pedastal. The cabriole legs lock into the pedestal beneath an iron tri-form bracket. The Queen Anne period was formally from 1730-1790. Some were made in the early 1800s but those were known for straighter lines. And early Queen Anne was typically mahogany so am assuming this table is too. A great double ball column with deep color, the Connecticut River Valley somewhere between Springfield MA and Hartford CT, perhaps Deerfield, MA, with arched legs, substantial, yet delicate snake feet and a stunning figured mahogany top.
