American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Tea Table, poss. Southern States
American Chippendale Mahogany Pie Crust Table. Possibly Southern States Last quarter of the 18th Century. Hairy Paw Ball and Claw Feet Item# 130101RQY27 This is an American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Birdcage Tea Table. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century. Possibly in the Southern States. The bold turned baluster relates to many forms seen along coastal North Carolina. Though it is a difficult piece to attribute with any certainty as similar works are also found in Philadelphia. More research would be necessary to attribute the piece with any authority. A very handsome work. The top is crafted from a single board of mahogany, a broad piece measuring an immense 37 1/16" x 36 3/8" It's sharp and well formed rim is carved of the solid, and from all appearances seems to have been sunk by hand rather than ... moreby turning, the craftsman planing this board until the outer inches of the rim remained upraised. These would then be carved and chiseled until they took on the form you now see. This is a highly labor intensive process and is more generally seen from shops with lower volume of production. We believe this table was probably in rough shape at one point in it's not so distant past. A condition that required the restorer to take apart the birdcage(note the alterations to the birdcage) remove the old rails and replace them and restore the cracking and loss around the base where the legs join the pedestal. As a result, it is difficult to be certain that the top truly is original to the table, though we do believe it is after closely examining it. The slideshow has many close up pictures that will allow you to determine that for yourself. The birdcage mechanism allows the table to swing freely. A small wedge-tenon sliding into the crevice in the top of the pedestal to lock the entire device in place. The pedestal is bold with a wonderful swollen baluster over the tri-form legs, these joining directly into the base in broad dovetail joints from the underside, locked in place with

FEDERAL PERIOD FLAME BIRCH & MAHOGANY BIRD CAGE TIP TOP TEA TABLE ON SPIDER LEGS
POWERFUL FLAME BIRCH& MAHOGANY SPIDER LEG BIRD CAGE TIP TOP TEA TABLE PORTSMOUTH. NEW HAMPSHIRE-LATE 18th CENTURY With our compliments we are delighted to offer you this bold flame birch and mahogany rare spider leg bird cage tip top tea table Portsmouth. New Hampshire circa 1790's. We first need to apologize for photographs. We like to use natural sunlight in our photo process but this time of year we are findly it difficult to get sun exposure that isn't too harsh. We presently have a new photography area and inventory storage system being constructed and our shop is in disarray during the construction. We are backloged with wonderful New England estate treasures and have little choice than to start posting now and amend our photographs as quickly as possible. We are shooting pieces coming right off the trucks without cleaning, ... morepolishing, waxing and tweaking them as they should be. We do promise to properly detail every piece prior to leaving our shop. We should have the construction completed in the next week. Meanwhile the buying and selling has to continue. This stunning flame birch& mahogany bird cage tip top tea table has its original period crab lock, reeded profiles on the spider legs, wonderfully turned center pedestal and in a very good original finish that is in desperate need of a waxing and buffing. There is a typical very old and stable seasoning split on its lower base that we will be addressing along with its detailing this week. The top shows a few very small finish blemishes(it is an untouched 200 plus year old finish) that will be covered in as soon as we apply the tinted wax and buff it out. This tea table has a 27" top, is 44 1/2" tall locked back and 29" tall with the top locked down. One of the best flame birch pieces we have turned up in quite a while now. Very Fine English Chippendale Period Highly Figured Mahogany Slipper Foot Tilt Top Tea Table Third quarter of the 18th Century. Hand carved fully original cleats connect the top to the base, with four hand made screws that appear to be original, and two later replaced screws attaching the cleats to the original top. The pedestal tenons through the square ... morebase. With the letters"DL" still visible at the tenon and in photos below. These could possibly be a signature of the craftsman who designed this table. The pedestal is carefully turned shaft culminates in a vasiform baluster, the three legs locking into the shaft with tight dovetail joints. The cabriole leg form is tight and sprung, the table almost poised to leap; the lines curve down and terminate in sharp well formed oval slipper feet. This is a fine piece for any home. Working easily in any number of design scenarios. In the upward tilted position, it is ideal to bring beauty to that empty corner or fill a long wall with two chairs on either side. English or Irish Chippendale Mahogany Tea Table w/ Ball Claw Feet c. 1755-85
Fine Chippendale Mahogany Shell Carved Tea Table Probably Ireland. Possibly England, c. 1755-85 Item# 130309DVH23 As one of the most beautiful and well balanced. Well proportioned and finely embellished tea tables we've ever carried, this is a rare and exceptional work of art. The top is a solid plank of mahogany with the rim scooped from the solid in a smooth curve. Projecting softly over the frame, the deep scalloping of the apron just dances and flows, greatly lightening what could easily be an overly heavy apron in the hands of a lesser artisan. The mahogany for the apron was chosen with care, the dense closed grain with a soft flow that follows the soft curve of the apron. Central to both sides of the apron is an applied shell carving. The table rests over cabriole legs with heavily carved acanthus leafage around a checkered knee, ... moreeach leg terminating in highly detailed ball and claw feet. The top affixes to the frame with original pine blocking, the underside of the top being inscribed illegibly. Almost certainly of Irish origin. Though possibly of British origin with Irish influence, this table remains in simply outstanding condition. Preserved and original in every way, this selection is sure to delight the most serious collectors of fine English furniture. Measurements: 30 1/4" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 27 3/4" high Condition Report: Some sunbleaching. More notable to one shell carved side than the other three sides- this side likely was facing forward. Finish preserved under later layers of wax. Light losses to edge of one shell, though the front remains crisp and well presented. Lip of top is patched in one section with a 4 5/8" long patch. Separation at one joint revealing the tenon joinery inside. All glue blocks are original, one missing, eight reglued with carpenter's glue in the last decade. Underside is inscribed illegibly. Old yellow label underneath. Sturdy, stable and overall in very fine condition. Please review all images in the slideshow for a full overview of condit

Very Fine Antique English Georgian Mahogany Tilt Top Tea Table Circa 1780's
Very Fine Antique English Georgian Mahogany Tilt Top Tea Table Circa 1780's Very meaty heavy table! 2 board top Nicely cut and proportioned legs and feet Good table Fits nicely into a chic city apartment. Or a country primitive house with a more formal parlour. Top has been off of the center mounting block. And reglued. No real damage done, the block probably dried out and cracked, then somebody reinforced with dowel rods, and reset the block back onto the pedestal. This repair was most likely done 30-40 years ago. The finish is a brown colour. With hints of red undertones. Top is slightly sun bleached, could be refinished to have better colour. 30 1/2" by 31" top. 27" tall Posted with

Fine American Queen Anne Mahogany Tea Table, Philadelphia c. 1750-90, Antique
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING AMERICAN QUEEN ANNE MAHOGANY ROUND TEA TABLE Philadelphia or surrounding counties. C. 1750-90 Item# 1404PWP20Z This is a highly satisfying table. The form remaining restrained and austere by choice, the whole certainly indicative of a rather skilled craftsman. The dish top is lathe-turned from a single solid plank of mahogany, the molded rim lifted from the solid through the lathe process; the back of the plank retains the marks where the board was affixed to the lathe, then spun until the edge was of a satisfactory height. This edge is carefully carved to raise a single large bead flanked by scratched channels and coves on either side. The back of the top wears a pair of original cleats affixed with eight screws(four original, ... morefour replaced) these bevelled along the edges and tapering on either end and shaped to the round of the top. The birdcage structure is entirely mahogany. The top board of this box extending in a pair of dowels at the backside into the cleats, forming a hinge for the top to smoothly lift vertically for display; four pillars tenon through the top and bottom board and are secured in place with tiny wedge tenons driven through the ends. The flange of the pedestal rises through the birdcage and the ringed collar inside, locked in place with a tiny mahogany wedge- this appears to be original, but these frequently are lost and are replaced. This device allowed the top to spin freely in a"lazy Susan" manner for easy serving of tea to guests. The pedestal has a slow swelling to the baluster with a scratched channel circling it's midriff. The full post divided with a series of tight ring turnings. The cabriole legs sink into the pedestal with oversized dovetails and terminate over rounded pad feet with chiseled out beveled edges. The four posts in the birdcage work to emulate after the pedestal, including several tight ring turnings at the top and bottom of each, the swollen

Someone ... moreput a few new screws in the tilter arms. 4. The owner of the estate had a professional restoration preformed on the dovetailed joined base channels. They had dowels sunk to re-enforcement the pedestals by a woodworker. These are all the best things to see and not structurally altered is the big point here. This is a big heavy solid mahogany tilt table that has moving parts. After 250 years these don't hold up so well unless they were virtually never used. This one has seen a very charmed life with no digs. Scratches or evidences of any abuses. Its been loved and cherish purchased through Christies by a Vermont estate in the 1980's. It has a 35 1/2" top and is 28 1/2" tall on the best formed Queen Anne pad foot with a defining deep scribe line ruining around the tables edge. Antique 18th c upright round wooden tea breakfast table carved pedestal mahogany
An 18th century round tea table in mahogany. It measures approximately 28-1/8" tall and the top measures approximately 32" in diameter. We believe it is American and we do not know the maker. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use. With some dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. The surface is refinished and this table would have originally been a tilt top table- it has been modified so that it stays upright permanently, so it may not be folded up. We think the two wooden supports adhered to the bottom of the surface have been replaced- there would have been a birdcage or likewise mechanism for the tilt top, so the table has presumably also been lowered(made shorter) in the process.
