Regency Twin Drawer Table- c1820- Fine Rosewood This Rosewood Regency twin drawer table is a lovely example presented in good condition. A twin pillar leg form with carved mouldings is united by a central footrest stretcher. The upper case sits over and displays lovely inverted finials at the corners and fine beaded edge detail to the perimeter. Twin drawers are present. Both are full depth with a main document storage drawer and a compact super little writing instrument drawer to the side. Reeded legs are capped with gilt metal collars and terminate in a fine original castor. They are in stunning order and provide superb patina and depth of colour. To the front there is fine mahogany. Detailed pencil line inlay and cross-banding to the perimeter. Gilt metal trim to the lower moulding is matched by the feature handle set with swan-neck over a pierced backplate. Antique Regency/ Early Victorian Wooden Painted Top Folding Table Pastoral Scene Highly Decorative Landscape Painted Top Antique Folding Occasional Table C 1830- 50. Here we have a lovely antique folding top occasional table with a painted top depicting a most charming pastoral scene. This rural idyll consists of a farmer on his horse driving cattle across a ford in a river. A couple of cows are distracted by the long lush grass in the foreground. There is a four arch stone bridge in the middle of the painting along with tall trees and the edge of a wood. In the background is a range of hills and mountains. The table has been used and there is some rubbing and minor chipping to the painting. As to be expected, but it is a very decorative and unique item. The top has a scalloped and bevelled edge which is painted black to"frame" ... morethe painting. The legs of the table are turned to simulate bamboo. There are plain turned stretchers between each pair of legs. The legs are hinged at the top with one pair sitting in a slotted groove and located with a swivelling wooden catch or latch. The table top measures approximately 15 inches square and the table stands a little over 23 inches from the ground. It weighs approximately 1.6 kg. Beautiful Antique c19th Regency Dish Top Table, Possibly Irish
A fabulous Regency period dish top table. Wonderful rosey patina with a great sheen. I suspect re-polished at some point using french polishing methods. Resulting in an extremely fine appearance. Probably a rosewood given the colour and by the nature of the wonderfully shaped inverted scroll legs. I suspect perhaps Irish. Each scroll is finished to the top and foot on each face with a plain, round, domed brass disc. Condition is generally superb. With the usual and desireable markers of age, including a fine bit of narrative to the table top which deserves special mention, being a sublime repair to the dish edge where a new section has been spliced in virtually imperceptibly some hundred or more years ago. Also some repair work to the runner beneath the table top which I believe to be a Victorian replacement. Top quality work throughout and ... moreit shows. And two dummy drawers to the reverse, the whole on lyre shaped supports with further decoration of figures and flowers joined by a central stretcher on out-swept legs and cast brass paw feet and castors surviving from the first quarter ... moreof nineteenth century England. The condition of the table is truly country house. I.e. lived in but thoroughly evocative and although she has had a few repairs she remains relatively stable and sound. There are several deficiencies to the lacquer to note; with scuffs and losses though overall it remains an attractive piece in its entirety with a very well established patination and craquelure to the lacquer in many areas especially to the drawer fronts. There are three areas of repair where there have been iron brackets fitted to give more stability. These are all old repairs, late Victorian or early twentieth century. This piece is not for those who like their furniture perfect or restored. We love pieces that show their battle scars and remain in un-restored condition, many of these japanned pieces were re-decorated in Victorian times, here we see the original Georgian paint. We also see the fantastic original lions paw feet and original pearl drop handles which is a nice surprise. The fine art of chinoiserie has been in existence since the 17th century. The second thing that strikes you about this table is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this table chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a table with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this table is just right and the table benefits from having a good balance. Meaning that it“sits” well with a real“presence” Now we know everything on ebay is“fantastic” glorious” superb” brilliant” magnificent” greatest” resplendent” superior” etc etc but when we say this is a very good table we mean it.
