The rectangular top has rounded corners and a moulded edge. It is inset with a green leather panel decorated with gilt tooling. The desk has a row of three drawers with handsome brass drop handles and backplates. The backside of the table is finished which allows for the piece to be placed free-standing if desired, rather than up against a wall. The desk stands on fluted legs with baluster carved acanthus leaves, ending in brass caps and casters. The piece measures 54"w x 25-3/4"d x 29-1/2"h. Condition: Overall. Probably c. late 19th Century Item# 130009GDJ23 This is a beautiful antique English Chippendale Style game table. In our assessment crafted during the late 19th Century out of parts of an earlier table- the result is a piece that closely resembles a period game table, with entirely hand chiseled and oxidized framing and structure, while lacking the authenticity and historical value of such a piece. These forms should be looked upon as a hand crafted reproduction, the old elements disregarded and the form judged on aesthetic qualities alone. As such, it is a very attractive little table, the solid mahogany top with a soft reverse serpentine that is mirrored in the apron. The apron along the front and sides follows the form of the top, the underside with ... morewonderful scrolling that flows directly into the well molded Marlborough legs. The back leg swings back as a support for the flip top, this revealing on the top an old faded leather surface for playing cards; at the same time, by opening the back leg a hidden drawer is revealed. This drawer retains an old yellowed note, supposedly bearing provenance of belonging to the author's great-grandfather- names are illegible to us. The top is a gorgeous and incredibly broad single solid plank of white pine, affixed at each corner with large square pegs(one corner with three pegs) the entire surface lightly rippled from the hand plane used to finish the surface. It was probably originally painted, this being scrubbed from it very attractively to expose the pure white of the top. The edges still retain the muddied color of the stain under wax, but much of this has been worn away. The frame is clean and consistent, the sides tenoned into each leg and affixed with a pair of pins(one ... morecorner with two iron nails as well) A single deep and spacious drawer spans the entire front of the frame, retaining it's original knob and an earlier surface full of patina- the dings, abrasions and scars throughout only work to enhance the surface and in no way detract from the overall aesthetics of the table. The whole rests over carefully turned legs that taper softly into an attractive interpretation of a Queen Anne foot. This is a wonderful piece for any colonial or primitive decor. The table being in very nice condition and highly attractive. Measurements: 45 1/4" wide x 35 1/8" deep x 28 7/8" high Condition Report: It is difficult to be certain of the age. The whole being crafted very cleanly with period components and in a manner consistent with the first years of the 19th century- however, oxidization is not consistent, suggesting the bottom of the top was scraped and cleaned when the upward side was scraped, or it is a later top. The piece is hand made solid Walnut(we think) Posssibly mahogany. Shows great character. The table is in excellent condition for a 200 year old + or- piece. Its sturdy except for shrinkage to the top post part. The stem or post part has shrunk and there's a very slight looseness to the top. U could add tape I suppose to fill the looseness but I wouldn't. It doesn't lean or wobble where food or drink would spill. Its just not rock solid as it was 200 years ago. But the legs are. They are absolutely tight& solid. The table measures 19 inches tall x 12 1/2 across its top. There's one repair to the top. The top is seamed in the middle and chiseled to a finished ... moredish shape with raised rim edge. One unique feature is the legs are not spread equally. They are an uneven triangle with 2 almost at 180 degrees to the other. They are at about 125 degrees to make the table. When folded down, fit more compact. Another neat feature or detail is how thinnly the legs are cut as the leg narrows down to the feet. Review all the pictures; enlarged views. 18TH - EARLY 19TH CENTURY EARLY AMERICAN CHERRY DROP LEAF BREAKFAST SOFA TABLE
This is a fantastic looking antique drop leaf breakfast/ dining table. It appears to be from the late 18th- early 19th century. The wood is phenomenal. It has a fine old patina and looks amazing. The top is one solid piece of wood as are the two leaves. There is some splitting from age on the top but overall it looks amazing. It measures 29" wide when closed x 57" when leaves are open. It also measures 30" tall and 39" long. I have it listed as local pick up only as I do not have shipper offhand that I can recommend for something this large.
