There is a cloth material affixed to underside of the tray to help reduce scratching to the table top. Here are the dimensions with the tray sitting in place: Height: 22 3/4 inches Width: 28 1/4 inches Depth: 19 3/4 inches Weight: 20 pounds The condition for age overall is very good. A few things to note is there are 2 very old cracks in the tray itself. The table needs to be tightened up as it is a bit wobbly and the legs may have had some work attaching them to the table base some time in the past. I have not polished the table so is in as-found condition. Some scratches to table top, tray and the section below as well but only surface related and may be fine with a good polish. The trim edge around the table top where the tray sits in has some damage at two of the corners as shown in the photos. Both on the same side. An extremely similar tray, without the table, just sold here on ebay for $125, and not in this good of shape, so I believe I have a fair Buy it Now price but am open to offers so let me know what you are thinking. I am offering this as pick up only as I have never packed a piece of furniture like this and would be nervous about not packing it correctly for shipping. This is a very nice solid mahogany original Tea Table made in England circa 1860. Lt could be used as a game table also. There is a drawer to the one side which is solid oak with dovetail joints. Rare Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Tilting Tea Table England. Late 18th Century Octofoil top carved with fruit& foliage over fluted pedestal. Cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. Item# 120109PTE08 This is a rather rare form. Carved in the manner of Frederick Hintz tables, though absent of any brass inlay noteworthy in his works. The top is octofoil in form, featuring eight shallow dish spaces circling a large central dish space. A table of this form would typically be used as a dinner table, not for tea due to the oversized nature of the dished valleys in the top. Formed from a single piece of mahogany, crafting something of this nature was exceedingly difficult and likewise exceedingly expensive in the 18th Century. A work of this nature would be found only in the finest London homes. Evidence of ... morehow it was formed is still visible in the piece, as you carefully look at the centermost point of each circular form- note the scar where the craftsman anchored his lathe to shave the perfect circle with raised molding. Each dish space is flanked by fruit carvings, each unique and different from the next- note the incredible crispness of each fruit, the attention to even the smallest details leaving identification of each fruit relatively easy: cherries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and plums. The table twists freely a full three-hundred and sixty degrees on the birdcage mechanism. Formed of four columns that through-taper the top and bottom, between which the shaft of the pillar comes through and is locked on with an angular through-wedge. This wedge is easily removed, allowing the entire top to lift off of the pedestal. The pedestal shaft is turned and tapers broader towards the bottom, deep stop-fluting around the entire shaft. Three cabriole legs dovetail into the center of the pedestal, exposed from beneath and actually formed such that no three-way bracket was necessary to lock the legs permanently in place. Or a country primitive house with a more formal parlour. Top has been off of the center mounting block. And reglued. No real damage done, the block probably dried out and cracked, then somebody reinforced with dowel rods, and reset the block back onto the pedestal. This repair was most likely done 30-40 years ago. Rare Miniature English Georgian Mahogany Work Table, Salesman Sample c. 1780
RARE ENGLISH GEORGIAN MAHOGANY MINIATURE WORK TABLE Probably a Salesman's Sample. C. 1780 with untouched structure(replaced brass pull) Item# 411VGP29P This is an exceptional find that remains preserved in nearly untouched condition. The replaced brass hardware not withstanding, after well over two hundred years. Probably crafted as a Salesman's sample, the form is a miniaturized version of a typical Georgian era work table. The top is a single plank of mahogany affixed from beneath the frame with hand cut brass screws set in wells at the front and back, also being lined with rectangular glued blocks. It projects rather substantially over the conforming frame with round carved edges of the solid. The front of the table features a single drawer with scratch bead simulated cockbead molding around the edges. It is constructed in the ... moretypical manner of the period. The dovetails very precisely executed on all corners; the bottom is set in rabbets and is nailed along the edges with hand forged iron brads and oak runners applied along with the strip at the front edge. The interior is untouched, a portion of the right runner absent, the left pine runner affixed with original rosehead nails into the frame. Particularly attractive is the very active scroll cut apron with it's sharp curvy contours along the sides and front. The front Marlborough legs are enhanced with a scratch bead along the outer front corners that neatly harmonizes with the etching of the drawer. The legs have chamfered inner corners. Which has a wonderful lightening effect on the presentation from the sides and when viewed at an angle. This is an exceedingly rare find. Particularly in such fine condition and with such robust form. It will certainly be a cherished acquisition for any serious collector of English antiques or anyone with a passion for miniatures and Salesman samples.
