Item# 120011RYI24 ... moreThis listing is for a remarkable and very fine Sheraton Pembroke table of the Federal Period. Crafted in New York during the first quarter of the 19th Century. It is a magnificent work, using the most incredible solid mahogany boards available for the overall presentation. Each leaf is a very broad single plank of full grained glowing mahogany, the middle most board a full 21 1/4" across the grain; each was flawlessly planed by hand until the surface was perfectly smooth, at which point a french polish was applied. This is a labor intensive and difficult finish to apply, layer after countless layer of shellac being rubbed into the surface by hand, but when done properly the result is breathtaking. The surface absolutely shimmers, the deep reds of the mahogany glowing through with utter brilliance. The leaves are notched and rounded. Giving an overall"cloud" form to each hanging surface, these lifting over hand forged iron hinges with entirely original screws. The top projects just slightly over the front, lining up perfectly along the sides such that the leaves rest squarely against the frame when in dropped form. One side of the table has a faux drawer with cockbead molding around it. The other side has a very deep drawer without cockbead molding, both having bold original polished brass stamped handles. Inside of the drawer. A white label is affixed on the left side from a dealer who once carried the table"Edwin C. Ahlberg, Antique Furniture, New Haven, Conn" The drawer is hand dovetailed at the back, nailed at the front, chamfered on the thick bottom along the sides to rabbet into the drawer frame and is nailed at the back of the drawer with a modern nail. Entirely original hardware, c. 1790-1800 Item# 130011MIP03 This is a fine English George III Period Inlaid Mahogany Pembroke Table c. the last quarter of the 18th Century. Crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers. Everything about this fine table speaks quality and attention to detail. The craftsmanship is impeccable, the construction precise and the wood of most choice quality for pristine presentation. The large rectangular top becomes ovular when the demilune leaves raise over their original iron hinges to rest on a pair of wings that swing out from the frame of the table on either side, resulting in a large and brilliant cognac mahogany surface edged by satinwood inlay. The ribbed and glowing quality of the mahogany cannot be underscored enough. A single drawer resides in the frame beneath the projecting top; the drawer is framed with cockbead molding and is hand dovetailed in the usual manner. Utilizing secondary oak woods to make up the frame for the drawer, the bottom board protected beneath runner strips and tacked with four iron brads along the back edge. The lock is probably original, though we have not removed it to be certain, the key now absent. On the other side of the table, the wood is crafted to create the illusion of a drawer where one does not exist. Flanking the drawer and faux-drawer are satinwood veneered panels surrounded by stringer inlay, the apron of the table lined in a thick satinwood border that completes the square profile of the table top. Resting over four square tapering legs. The table terminates on bright and original brass caster feet. Crafted with a very dense and vibrant grained Cuban mahogany top. The flow of the grains is incredibly attractive, the intense ribbing through the center made accentuated by the smooth straight grains along the edges of the leaves. Lifting over triangular wings that easily swing from their resting place integral with the frame, the surface is broad and highly functional. Both leaves retain their three original hand forged iron hinges. A single drawer eases in and out of the front of the table with a brass bail ... morepull(replaced) the drawer front framed in an applied cockbead molding around most of the dovetails of the front joint. The bottom is deeply chamfered with triangular blocks set in the bevel to secure the drawer bottom firmly. Finishing the lower edge of the apron on both sides of the table is a thin tri-bead molding over the tapering Marlborough legs embellished with scrolling returns with a shapely"domed" saltire stretcher joining into the legs with a tenon; these lift vertically in a cyma-curving climb embellished by offset scrolls above and below each stretcher until they ultimately join half-lapped centrally. Truly eye catching are the crisp fluting and perfectly tapered form of each leg, this executed on the front and side of each leg with the interior corner being bevelled and interior sides left plain. They are sharp and very fine. The quality and craftsmanship in this fine piece is above reproach in every way- precise joinery and perfect carving have resulted in an investment grade work of art. 1790's Inlaid Mahogany Pembroke Table This is a beautiful George III inlaid mahogany Pembroke table(Circa 1790's) It was later restored adding Adams style painting in the Edwardian period. This table was appraised in March 2003 by Butterfields. we will happily provide the appraisal documents for the future owner. Dimensions: 36" wide-2 leaves up 18" wide-2 leaves down 30" deep 26" high Each leaf is 9" wide. One pull our drawer, four original brass castes on legs. Nice English George III Mahogany Hepplewhite Dropleaf Pembroke Table ca. 1780 English circa 1780-1800 Very nice Pembroke table. Nicely figured mahogany top and leaves. Ebony inlay banding around the skirt in the front and back. One pull out drawer with oak secondary woods. And finely dovetailed construction. To the best of our belief, it retains the original wallpaper drawer lining. Mahogany tapered legs resting on brass casters. Great state of preservation! Nearly original condition. As far as we can tell. There has been no restoration work do e on this table. There is a bit of veneer patching on the drawer, but nothing major. There is some veneer bubbling on the back panel of the skirt, not loose. Minor dings and wear& use marks throughout. 4 small shrinkage splits in the top. None are loose, but they are there. FINE GEORGE THE III MAHOGANY 18TH CENTURY PEMBROKE TABLE WITH RARE BIRDS EYE MAPLE DRAWERS FACINGS With our utmost pleasure we are honored to offer you this fabulous 18th Century George III English Pembroke table in mahogany with extremely rare birds eye maple drawer facings and fine period brass lion head pulls on each end of the table. This is a fantastic piece and one of the very few George III period pieces that employs birds eye maple in its construction. This table is in its original finish with fine structural integrity. It has had some professional restorative upkeep preformed on it and a repair a very old leg block split that was no doubt caused by the piece being pushed far too hard across a carpet. Its been addressed professionally. We observed it and obligated to inform you of it. We consider this as having no effect on the value ... moreof this wonderful piece. It is truly a remarkably fine piece and especially given the price we are offering it for. This piece has one drawer and a faux drawer facing on each of its ends. It has stunning turned and tapered legs and absolutely charming tiny brass leg cupped pivoting original caster wheels. Each the drawer and the faux back drawer facing are framed by birds eye maple cock bead moldings. The secondary woods are made from yew wood and pine with a wonderful red wash on it. The finish and surfaces are all in an untouched original good condition. The top has a few mars on it that are well within acceptable limits for an 18th century piece of furniture. A proper waxing will address this. Each leaf has finely crafted double wooden carved leave supports with hand carved wooden hinge systems. This table is 20" long with its leaves down, 38 1/2" long with its leaves locked up, 38 3/4" wide and stands 28 1/2" tall.
