18th Century Irish Gold Gilded Gilt Marble Top Console Carved
This is an Irish 18th century carved wood one-legged marble topped console. As I am neither a dealer nor collector. I guess it best just to describe it's history: It was purchased from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago by a local premier designer for $760. I purchased it from him for $1030. It was then re-gilded. Filled/leveled in gesso, repaired/reinforced with epoxy, regilded in 22k gold leaf, and then clearcoated in matte acrylic lacquer for $949 in 2002. The underneath of the marble top is signed by the person for whom it was commissioned. The signature is indecipherable. It has been stored indoors since a move in 2005. 37" High 30" Wide(marble top) 16" Deepest part of marble top I will do my best to answer any and all questions.

PROBABLY FRENCH, wood with gilding and cream colored paint and gesso face mask, graduated flowers, scrolling leafage, etc. I feel it is 18th century due to a book I read, Landsdowne Room published by the Philadelphia Museum of Art which states in the 18th Century they used a yellow color under the gilding.whereas in the 19th century they used red.
