Antique Limoges Jardiniere Planter RARE Flow Blue Under Glaze Design 1880's
This is a magnificent and rare piece of flow blue Limoges. This huge jardiniere was made by the William Guerin Co. in the late 1880's. It features a gorgeous design of poppy flowers and leaves that have been painted in the blue Sevres style under the glaze. This technique allowed the blue to flow with soft edges when it was fired. Creating a soft and beautiful image. This is a very large piece painted in this style and extremely rare. I have not been able to find another like it. It is in very fine condition with the exception of gold loss around the rim of the mouth opening. Because these pieces were used to hold floral displays and live plants, this is considered normal ware. There are no chips, cracks or hairlines, and the glaze is in very fine condition.The circumfrence is 42" at the widest part. It stands 9 1/2" high, 10" ... moreacross the mouth, and 7" across the base. This piece was not signed by the artist, but they did leave their ghostly finger prints under the glaze as shown in picture#6. The bottom is marked with the green under glaze WG&Co stamp used before 1891. This large jardiniere displays beautifully and works well with other flow blue pieces as shown. What to say about this jardinaire? One of the finest pieces William Adderly and Co ever produced. It is stunning in person. I have seen 1000's of flow blue pieces but this is the finest of all. 10" wide by 8" tall. But.it does have a break where base separated from top. However the break is super clean. As is you could display and no one would ever know. To restore would be a simple job. I personally would put some hard core glue on it and slightly touch up. This is a wonderful old porcelain jardiniere/compote/planter. I believe it is English pottery. And dates back to the early 1900's. A dark cobalt is the color of the jardiniere, and with the flash it shows a bit brighter. It stands 9 1/2 inches tall and is 12 inches wide. The opening is 9 1/2 inches in diameter. Exquisite Victorian 19th century flow blue porcelain jardinière on matching pedestal plant Stand; beautiful overall light blue and burnished floral and leaf design; heavily gold leaved figural handles and borders. Pedestal measures approx. 20" high x 11" diameter; jardinière measures approx. 17" high x 13"20" diameter. A real find! Marked Cloisonne at the bottom of the pedestal; circa 1890. The light reflection of the camera makes the gold appear very light. It truly is a spectacular gold color. Fabulous in real!
