The New York Stoneware Co and the number 4 is impressed. The flower ... moredesign is a very dark cobalt blue. Each side has an applied elephant ear handle. Circa: 1859- 1885. Fort Edward. NY) Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 1/2" in diameter at the top. Base 11" in diameter. Floral decoration is about 5" wide X 6" tall. The blue floral decoration has dots and circles. Condition: This crock is being sold AS IS. This is a solid crock but it has issues. Large Blue decoration has excellent dark cobalt blue color but has a chip at the top branch. Shown in picture 2. There is a large chip at the rim above the ear handle, picture 8. The same ear handle has a chip underneath the handle, shown in the same picture. On the outside, there is a spider hairline that starts on the bottom and runs up the side, see close-up picture in picture 5, 10& 11. I would not trust this crock to hold water. There is one small chip in the dark brown glaze on the inside, last picture. Picture 5 shows a raised dark spot on the outside which appears to be from the manufacturing process. See all pictures. Published by the author in 1986. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The record of a unique folk-art collection of mostly 19th-century“make-do’s–glass. Ceramics and other broken objects converted by thrifty and artful owners to a new purpose, or re-born with parts from something utterly different. Many of the objects take specific utilitarian forms- there are a number of lamps made up of partial glass lamps with glass and metal or wood bases or other parts added. Glass goblets and broken lamps also form the bases for a number of pincushions. Ceramics are usually repaired, a Staffordshire teapot with a carefully carved wooden handle, an 1820s scenic jug held together with artfully placed tin bands which also form a new decorative handle, and so on.
