Sterling Silver& Ebony Glove Stretcher Broken- Single arm/handle only This is a broken half of what was a pair of ebony and sterling silver ladies glove stretchers. They have broken at the hinge and one side lost so this is the remaining broken side on offer. The ornate sterling silver handle is hallmarked with a Lion Passant. Gothic"x" and horizontal anchor which I believe dates it to 1897. The mark is preceded by a maker's mark which is indistinct but it could be"JMB" for J. Millward Banks of Birmingham. The overall length including the ebony section is 10" and the silver handle is 3¼" long. The weight of the item is 40gm including the ebony. In fact this was made by the well known Sheffield silversmith Harrison Fisher in 1905. I really do not know whether it was used as a shaving cup or to drink from all i do know this really is a smart piece of Edwardian design& history. would easily pack away if you had set off on your travels. May have once been used upon the orient express by a lord or a fine gentleman. Beautiful and Rare Antique Iraqi Solid Silver and Niello Gentlemans' Walking Cane Handle. c1925 Very skillfully hand made near Amarah. Southern Iraq by skilled Mandean silversmiths and in excellent condition overall. It features fine quality. Intricate niello work depicting a graceful boat in full sail on the river Euphrates, with date palms and reed beds in the background. The nielloed camel on the top is superb. It's tactile and beautifully proportioned with a length of 90mm; it has an internal diameter at the fitting end of 22mm for a stout cane and the handle tapers out to a diameter of about 35mm near to the top. It is very heavy at 51g. Absolutely superb Antique Iraqi solid silver and Niello gentlemans' walking cane handle and a very rare and interesting aspect of genuine antique Islamic art. Rare Victorian horn & solid sterling silver cane handle.Clenched hand & bar,1899
Here is a rare Victorian horn and solid sterling silver cane handle in the form of a clenched hand holding a bar. It is fully hallmarked for London 1899 with makers mark HM. From the silver ferrule to the top of thumb is 2.6"and the silver bar is 2.2" wide. It would also make an unusual parasol handle. There is a small section of horn missing from the side of the thumb where the bar goes through. Some dings and dinks to the silver but given age and use it is in good condition as you can see from the photos. A rare and collectable Victorian piece. P lease see photos for detail.
