NOVELTY antique / vintage miniature jockey cap caddy spoon in Sterling silver
This is a sterling silver novelty caddy spoon in the shape of a Jockey's cap I bought twenty or thirty years ago. I dont know whether it is an antique or just vintage but I bought it at an antiques fair because it was fun. It measures just under 2.25 inches long. And you would use the brim as the little handle. There is a vacant shield shaped cartouche for engraving to personalise it. I notice that the others for sale on Ebay appear to be a great deal of money, but I will start it at what I paid for it back then. It is marked 925 and you might want to clean it inside a little. A lovely novelty English sterling silver inkwell in the form of a bell. The hinged lid opening to reveal a removable glass chamber for easy refilling and cleaning. There is a full English hallmark near the bottom of the inkwell, somewhat rubbed, for Birmingham 1915. The makers initials are also present for the silversmith, Arthur and John Zimmerman. The interior of the lid also has a partial English hallmark and is also lucky enough to have the English design registration number 538848 for the year 1909. The toast rack is made from 67.3 grams of solid sterling silver in a round end rectangular shape with five round wire novelty toast or bread shape dividers resulting in four toast sections and the central divider has a delightfully shaped handle on the top. The piece is round with curved sides and a flat base. The glass is framed within a band of fine reeding. The face of the barometre has black numerals against a silver background. The face has a curved mercury thermometre. What is very unusual is that the underside has a sliding suspension ring/ hanger that pulls out from the top of the back of the case so that the thermometre/barometre can be hung on a wall instead of displayed on a desk. UNUSUAL NOVELTY ANTIQUE SOLID STERLING SILVER PIN CUSHION IN THE SHAPE OF A LARGE BOOT– EDWARDIAN ERA HALLMARKED BIRMINGHAM 1910– VERY GOOD CONDITION This is a fabulous piece of antique solid sterling silver and a really fun sewing collectable! It is a fairly rare pin cushion from the Edwardian era. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1910, in the shape of a very large boot. The detail on this piece is lovely. With holes for the laces, etc– and the sole of the boot is of varnished wood. The silver is in very good condition. Especially considering its antique age of 105 years old. The pin cushion is clearly the original. Complete with pin holes! It is very worn and faded with age. It could be replaced- the collector would probably wish to leave it in its original condition. This is a lovely pair of silver novelty knife rests with crossed tennis rackets with a tennis ball to the centre at both ends. The rackets joined by a round silver bar. The tennis racket have chased strings and chased lines along the handles. The knife rests are 2-7/8 inches/ 74 mm wide and 1-1/2 inches/ 38 mm across the rackets. Magnificent and rare Austrian sterling silver gilt and enamel novelty clock. Made in Vienna, Austria, circa 1863. This is an exceptional Austrian silver and enamel novelty clock in the form of a harp musical instrument. It has clear maker's mark SG- I have not managed to identify this maker but if anyone is able to tell me who it is. I would be most grateful. The harp is of classic shape and has a superb enamelled bird to the top with it's long green enamel feathers running down the top rim with a mask head to the other end. The front of the harp has a hardstone column which is mounted onto an enamel plinth. The back frame of the harp is superbly decorated with hand painted enamel cherubs and the back is finely chased silver gilt. The harp has a superb enamelled base and it stands on four scroll feet. The underside has a clock and ... morethe movement is signed Martin Broeck and Wien 63. The movement dates to Vienna circa 1830 so is earlier than the harp. It comes with it's key. The harp is large. It is 3 inches/ 76 mm wide and stands 6-1/2 inches/ 165 mm high. It weighs 179 grams. The silver has hallmark with A for Vienna and maker's mark SG. The harp is in excellent condition. The dog's head is very realistically and finely chased. The underside has a cigarette lighter. The dog head is 3-1/2 inches/ 89 mm deep and 4 inches/ 101 mm from front to back. Superb and rare Edwardian sterling silver novelty propelling pencil. Fully hallmarked for London 1902. This is a rare and very large novelty silver pencil in the form of a hunting horn- it is 16 inches/ 406 mm long. The pencil is in the form of a classic hunting horn with mouthpiece to one end and flared and rolled opening at the other end. The mouthpiece turns and the propelling pencil extends from inside. The horn is 1-3/8 inches/ 35 mm in diametre and it is 15-1/2 inches/ 394 mm long when closed and 16 inches/ 406 mm long when extended. It weighs 86 grams.
