The mechanism is sprung and released by pressing the button on the end which springs the propelling pencil extension. It all works perfectly by pushing the barrel closed and giving it a little twist to lock it. It is unusual to find a special peice like this still working and in such good condition. It is clearly stamped S. Mordan Co Patent. Please see photos. It measures 75mm in length and 105mm extended approx. 11mm in diameter of the barrel. It weighs 26 grams Sampson Mordan. Snr was born in 1790 and patented his ever-pointed propelling pencil on 20th December 1822. Description Welcome to my Auction. For a large& heavy pair of sterling solid silver novelty salt& pepper. Modelled in the form of owl's. Hallmarked- London 2001. Maker- E& J" Weighing- 311 grams. These lovely novelty owl's are disguised as salt& pepper pots. Having superb feather detailing along with secure red glass eyes. Removable heads for filling. Both owl's have 12 holes on the top of their head's to dispense the salt& pepper. With no splits or damage to the silver. Just Lovely. Measures approx- 7.2 cms tall. 5 cms wide. Weighing individually- 161.5 grams and 149.5 grams- Total weight- 311 grams. The eyes have been secured by a resin& this can be seen& felt on the inside. This would have been at time of manufacture. I am 99.9% sure it would have been used to toast a hunt before the gentlemen& ladies went hunting must have been accompanied by a very fine hip flask this truly has been engineered to the highest standard the propelling mechanism works like a dream. Never before have i ever seen anything quite like it& as it has a patent registration number i doubt we ever will. Antique Solid Silver 925- Novelty- Stamp Case Box Envelope- CHESTER 1903 A stunning antique solid silver stamp case in the form of an envelope. Hallmarked- Chester 1903. The date letter" C" is a little worn but it is definitely the date letter for- 1903. It is also stamped on the side with a lion passant and again on the inside with a lion passant. see photos. It has beautiful floral engraving on the front which has very nice detail. The back also has very nice floral engravings and features a cartoche in the corner which has not yet been engraved. The stamp case is in very good condition with no major dents that i can see and is in good original condition. It has a small catch on the inside of the stamp case which clicks nicely when closed and is in good working order. It has a solid silver loop on the side which has an attaching ... morering so it can be attached to a chain. Measures- 2.6 cm in length x 2.3 cm wide x 4 mm depth- Weighs 4.2 grams of solid 925 silver.

There is a compartment inside the case that would have held small matches& a nice serated strike plate on the outside. The case is in superb condition even though it is over 120 years old. Has a nice fob ring attacthment at the side of the case& opens with a little clasp on the side. I have had many fine vesta cases some costing a thousand pound but i have never before seen one such as this. He stands upon a cart that has 4 wheels working in motion so you can push him along your dining table for each person to use. even the cart has been stunningly engraved to perfection. As have the buckets& detailing on the man carrying all these items, nothing been left out. This truly is a masterful piece. A Solid Silver Novelty Reindeer& Sleigh Pin Cushion. Hallmarked Birmingham 1909 Description: Here we have a really super Edwardian Solid Silver novelty. A Reindeer& Sleigh Pin Cushion. The piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1909, and bears the makers mark for Adie& Lovekin Ltd. The Reindeer is attached to the Sleigh and features the pin cushion set into its back. The piece measures approx. 9cm in overall length Condition: The piece is in very good overall condition. With no signs of previous repairs. The Sleigh appears it once held something small, as there are little arms where something would have clipped into. The only other thing to mention, is when looking underneath(as shown in the photographs) the Sleigh appears to be a little mis-shapen. A silversmith could quite easily sort this if required, but it doesn't notice ... moreunless you have it upside-down. The hallmarks are lovely and crisp and the piece is very original. Novelty french solid silver card holders
Here I have two solid silver French menu holder on offer. The set is fully hallmark. There are Minerva Mark for French silver, sorry I can't see the maker Mark as is too small to see. The holder is in the form of a band, one playing a drum the other a flute. Both in excellent condition, but one stand is a little bent, which is easy to fix. Fantastic item I've never seen a vesta case like this before It has twist top just like most hip flasks with cork seal in the lid and strike plate to the bottom. It has a monogram to the front the hallmarks are worn in places but is readable apart from the date letter but it's probably 1900- 1910. LOVELY RARE SOLID STERLING SILVER & WOOD NOVELTY LARGE BOOT PIN CUSHION HM 1910
UNUSUAL NOVELTY ANTIQUE SOLID STERLING SILVER PIN CUSHION IN THE SHAPE OF A LARGE BOOT– EDWARDIAN ERA HALLMARKED BIRMINGHAM 1910– VERY GOOD CONDITION This is a fabulous piece of antique solid sterling silver and a really fun sewing collectable! It is a fairly rare pin cushion from the Edwardian era. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1910, in the shape of a very large boot. The detail on this piece is lovely. With holes for the laces, etc– and the sole of the boot is of varnished wood. The silver is in very good condition. Especially considering its antique age of 105 years old. The pin cushion is clearly the original. Complete with pin holes! It is very worn and faded with age. It could be replaced- the collector would probably wish to leave it in its original condition. HALLMARKS: The hallmarks are on one side of the boot: the letters“S B& S ... moreLTD” for S Blanckensee& Sons Ltd; the Anchor mark for the Birmingham Assay Office; the lion passant for solid English sterling silver; the letter“l” for the year 1910. On the other side is the design registration number: REGD 545913” APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: Length– 12.5cm; Width– 4.5cm; Height(at the highest point. Including the cushion) 5cm. It weighs just over 121g. CONDITION: The silver is in very good condition overall. Especially considering its antique age of 105 years old. There are no holes or splits. For completeness of detail only- there are some little dings here and there and small nicks to the silver. Not noticeable. There are areas of age related patina tarnish in the crevices which you can polish out if you wish. As mentioned above. The pin cushion is clearly the original and has pinholes of use in it. It is worn and faded although largely intact. There are bits of silver polish on the cloth beneath the boot’s holes for the laces. This is a fabulous. This is a Rare Heavy Fine Quality Novelty Figural Solid Silver Barrel Open Salt Assayed in London in 1969. The design and decoration is very rare, as you can see this very special Open Salt has been crafted in the form of a coopered Barrel with so much detailing, it has been crafted so very finely that it would have taken a highly Skilled silversmith to craft such a unique piece, the Barrel Open Salt has a Gentleman figure attached also in solid silver, he is a Georgian worker wearing his breeches and coat with his sleeves rolled up and wearing a hat which in trimmed to the back with a bow, he is pushing the Barrel's as though he is working extremely hard, he also has the most stunning detailed face with a mop of curly hair, the Open Salt still retains its original blue glass liner, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, and it has ... morebeen made with an excellent gauge of silver weighing 122.1 grams without the glass liner. Unusual Edwardian Novelty Solid Silver Scent Bottle Case In The Form Of A Tantalus Containing Three Clear Glass Scent Bottles With Solid Silver Tops Made By M.Bros At Birmingham In 1910. The top is sprung to keep the scent bottles safe and each scent bottle under its screw on silver top has a little glass stopper. Hallmark: M.Bros. Anchor, Lion& l(k on cent bottles as it would have been made over a period) Width: 7.5cm Height: 9.5cm There are some condition issues due to many years of use I will try to mention them all be please also view photos. Two of the scent bottles have small chips and the other may have some minor nicks. The tops are dented misshapen and the hallmark has worn off one. SUPERB& UNIQUE EXTREMELY RARE VICTORIAN DUTCH SOLID SILVER NOVELTY CAT DESK WAX SEAL Dutch circa 1860 This is a Superb& Very Special Rare Victorian Dutch Solid Silver Novelty Cat Desk Wax Seal. This carries the Sword Hallmark for Dutch silver and another mark i cant make out on his tail, i would estimate this wonderful and very unusual desk wax seal dates to circa 1860 making it about 150 years old. The design and decoration is so very special and the detailing is stunning from the top of his ears to her beautiful face with Piercing Green Emerald Eyes, these may be Emeralds but i wouldn't know as i dont know how to test them, he also has a lovely little nose and whiskers very detailed, he is sitting beautifully on a raised circular platform and even down to his little paws and tailed curled around the back gives him such an exquisite ... morelook, he is adorable, even the fur to his head and body is very detailed. To the base you will see it has the engraved initials so the wealthy Victorian Gentleman would drip hot sealing wax onto his closed letter then press this rare seal into the wax giving his letter a secure seal with his initials imprinted into the wax. This would have once many years ago sat pride of place on a Victorians writing desk and been used almost daily when life was so very different. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, the condition is excellent with no damage just the normal amount of surface scratches expected, this rare wax seal is so very tactile that once you pick it up you just wont want to put him down, this Novelty Cat Wax Seal is very special, its a real treasure. This is an Extremely Rare Edwardian Novelty Solid Silver Lighthouse Table Cigar Lighter crafted in Chester in 1910 by the highly sought after Victorian Silversmiths Grey& Co who were noted for their novelties in silver and supplied retail establishments such as Asprey. Making it 105 years old. This Rare Table Cigar Lighter has everything going for it, not only the novelty design of a fantastic lighthouse but also being crafted by one of the all time finest Victorian silversmith and finally this is a rare Example, as you can see the lighthouse design is stunning from the shape of the body all the way to the glass panels to the top that would give such a wonderful effect when lit, to the base you will see a disc that moves, this is an extinguish mechanism. Grey& Co are renowned for there quality Novelty Silver and this is no exception, when lit this would look absolutely breath taking it is fully hallmarked, it weighs 179.7 gram and measures stands 5.5 inches( 14 cm) tall, the condition is lovely though it does show wear with dinks and a push to the silver top and a little split to one of the silver strips on the top as shown, that being said this could easily be repaired as it is only to the silver at the very top, just mentioned for accuracy, this will add something very special and rare to any collection.
