Fabulous St Dunstan Silver Craft solid sterling silver christening spoon. The spoon is a replica of the Earliest Christening Spoon. This spoon is a replicaa of a Roman silver spoon of the fourth century a.d. which was found in Traprain Law. A scottish settlment south of the Forth. The Christogram(P X) shows that it belonged to Christian Romans. It was the custom of the Romans to present a child at birth with a silver spoon. This custom was taken over the by the Christians and is kept alive today. The reproduction of this charmingly graceful silver spoon is of the oldest christening present known to us anywhere. This passage taken from the item description kept within the presentation box for the spoon. Antique, solid silver Mappin& Webb three piece Christening Set presented in its original case with hallmarks from the Art Deco period of 1927. This pretty. Sweet set weighs 72g in total and consists of: One egg cup- 2.5” high. 33g weight One napkin ring- just under 2” diameter. Weight 24g One spoon- 4.5” long. Weight 15g. The egg cup and napkin ring both have the same wavy edges and raised ornamental bands(gadroons) around them. They are also decorated with a continuous pattern of vertical scored indentations on the bands. The egg cup and napkin ring both bear the same Mappin& Webb hallmark initials followed by an anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office. A lion passant denoting solid English silver and the letter C in a shield for the year 1927. The ... morespoon bears the hallmark initials for Cooper Bros& Sons and is hallmarked from Sheffield. Also in the year 1927. Please see the photos for details. The solid silver on all the pieces is in excellent condition– we cannot find any dents or scratches. The box is also in very good condition for its age and bears the Mappin& Webb name and address on the internal ivory satin lining. The egg cup and napkin ring both have the engraving of the name‘June Sylvia’ in italics on them. On the egg cup it is about a quarter of an inch at its highest on the capital letter initials and about 1” across and a bit smaller on the napkin ring. The box is about 6” long and 5.5” at its widest point and the total weight of the set in the box is 248g. This really is a lovely Christening Set in excellent condition. Vintage hallmarked solid silver Christening Bowl& Spoon? 2001 by Broadway& Co This beautiful Christening Set comprises a good sized sterling silver bowl and spoon. And it is presented in its original blue coloured case with white silk lining to the lid and blue velvet to the base. It is very clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 2001 with the maker’s mark of Broadway& Co. I believe that this design is still being produced and sold. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents or dints that I can find. Because it is nearly as good as new. I suspect it was either an unused present or ex-shop display item. As such, please be aware that there will be tiny surface abrasions caused through handling and cleaning. The exterior of the box is in superb condition with fully working clasps and the white silk lining is pristine. Solid Silver Christening mug 1899 Interesting American/English connection A very fine piece of antique silver that will appeal to American and English historians alike Having researched the names inscribed on the mug I believe that this delightful christening mug or cup was given by Asbury Hull of Georgia USA who was. I understand, a very well known figure in the States at that time, to Reginald Field Glazebrook at Christmas 1899 Reginald was born in Augusta Richmond Georgia on 23rd April 1899 and his family moved to England where he was christened in West Derby. Walton-on-the-Hill Lancashire on 10th July 1899 and where he grew up to become a very well known cotton merchant. Dating 1866 this set includes the original fitted presentation case and sterling silver fork and spoon. The fork and spoon are decorated with beaded edging and a finely worked interlocking design. It is difficult to trace the origin of the firm in the 18th Century and the first part of the 19th century. For sale we have this lovely solid hallmarked silver fork. Knife and spoon Christening set. The set is in very good condition with the original fitted presentation case. The silver is hallmarked for English sterling silver. Was assayed in Birmingham with the date letter for 2001. The knife has been assayed in Sheffield as the blade would have been made there. The fork measures 13cm/5" with the spoon measuring 13cm/5" The knife at 18 1/2cm/7 1/4" with a combined weight of 77.5g approx including the Sheffield plate blade on the knife. The case measures 20cm/8" by 8 1/2cm/3 1/3" The box has a miner scuff as shown in the photo. The silver is in exellent condition. A superb Christening gift.
