This is a nice pair of silver menu holders. They are hallmarked on the base with what looks like Egyptian or Arabic marks. I am calling them silver but I have not tested them. But I will guarantee at least 800- I will take them back& pay return postage if they prove to be other than 800. Unusual to see a small posy holder on each for a flower& both are clearly handmade. For auction we have this lovely pair of Victorian solid silver menu or place card holders. Fully hallmarked for London 1896, with the makers mark JBC. The menu holders are formed as two cherubs holding a laurel leaf swag framing a central cartouche. The menu holders are in perfect condition with good clear hallmarks. The menu holders measure 3 inches wide and together they weigh 48.6 grams All items are as described. Set of 9 Antique/ vintage place card or menu holders. Sterling silver. Made in Siam. Today Thailand, first half of 20th century. Measurements: Diameter of base is approx 3.3cm or 1 1/4 inches. Ruler in'photos is in inches. Individual weights of holders differ- 58.3grams/ 60.7grams etc with a total of 526.20 grams. However. Since they appear to be weighted, the measurement is not precise. Round bases. They appear to be weighted as they are heavy for their size. Each holder has a figure of a Hindu deity or persona- dancing figures. Elephants, a dragon ship and figures in prayer. Beautiful detail. The back of each figure is fitted to hold a card. Marks: each holder has engraved mark: SIAM and STERLING. The name SIAM would only have been used up to the 1930's. Six smart menu/ place card holders by Sampson Mordan. Dating from 1903. The holders are of a simple yet stylish design. Consisting of two different sized discs mounted at an angle on a circular base. Each piece is fully stamped. With manufacturers mark, sterling lion passant, assay mark for Chester and date letter for 1903. There is also an additional number next to the Sampson Mordan mark(see photo) The number 402227 gives the date of design registration as 1903. The circular discs measure approximately 28& 22mm(1.10" 0.85" in diameter. Sterling Silver. Very rare set of 4 sterling silver menu holders. Each having a fishing fly set into them behind glass, the flies are all handpainted watercolours and thought to possibly just be a one off set possibly made for a special order. They are hallmarked from Chester in 1922 with the makers mark being that of Grey& Co. They come with original case and are in excellent order. They do however require polished, we have part polished just the one but have refrained from doing anymore for fear of any of the polish getting near the water colours.
