This early 1900's gold plated single full sovereign case measures 30mm(1.25' across and weighs 22 grams. It is marked to the inside for the famous case maker Dennison with their logo as well as" Gold cased guaranteed to wear 20 years" around the rim. It is very well engraved all over with a typical early 1900's scroll work and a vacant central cartouche to the front. Here we have a b eautifully clean solid silver English hallmarked sovereign case or holder from the Edw ardian era. Inner lid bears the makers mark'ALD' for A aron Lufkin Dennison. The anchor for Birmingham. Lion denoting sterling silver; and the date letter'f' for 1905. Beneath are the numbers 735. The coin retainer is hallmarked with the lion and date letter. The part holding the suspension ring is hallmarked on one side with the makers mark. And o n the other the lion and date letter. The suspension ring has the lion hallmark. All a sign of quality. About 3 cms in diameter and 19.4g in weight. CONDITION. The case has had a professional repair to the hinge. And a polish. The lid shuts nice and tight with a snap. It doesn't spring open. On offer is a splendid solid silver double sovereign coin holder. The coin holder has charming enamel image of a golden colored dog on the front. To open the coin holder you simply press down on the button at the top of the case. The fitment has been removed or lost so it needs to be opened by pushing a fine object down inside the fitment(I used a hair grip) This can be fixed with the right pair of hands, part and expertise. The holder has two different sized coin holders. The inside of the case is hallmarked with three keyholes.
