Antique Sterling Silver & Citrine Top Retractable Mechanical Pencil circa 1895
Superb Victorian Sterling Silver& Citrine Top Engrave Decorated Retractable Pencil circa 1895 This Antique Pencil measures approximately 3 1/4 inches or 81 mm in length when the inner pencil is fully retracted by just under 1/2 an inch or 12 mm across the widest part of the citrine set top from side to side and it is just under 4 1/8 inches or 103 mm in total length when the inner pencil has been fully extended. The pencil is made from a sterling silver body in a hexagonal tubular shape with an alternate engine turn engrave decorated body and it has a threaded upper body with an internal spare lead holder that has a screw down stylized scrolled foliate decorated lid. The top of its lid has been set with a hexagonal shaped polished citrine or coloured glass panel and the pencil has a step decorated sliding toggle on the outside of its ... morebody that slides up and down enabling the internal mechanical or worm drive pencil to be extended or retracted from within the body. The pencil has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and although I have been unable to find any silver marks as is very typical with these antique items the pencil has been tested and it is guaranteed as being made from sterling silver. I estimate that this pencil was made circa 1890- 1900. The condition is used. Fully Working and Excellent for its age. The Pencil has No Large Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the pencil is straight, the decoration and definition are very crisp. The citrine glass panel is still firmly set with no chips and no cracks, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the internal mechanical pencil mechanism is working perfectly as the inner lead push rod extends and retracts as it should, the pencil slides tightly in and out of the body with ease although as the pencil is a used antique it does have the odd very small shallow dent in its body that does not affect its use and the pencil has some extremely minor surface marks and we

Art Deco Gatsby Era Chinese Export Sterling Silver Retractable Cocktail Stirrer
Up for auction here is a hard to find vintage Chinese export. Marked sterling silver, champagne, or cocktail stirrer from the Art Deco era. This has Great Gatsby style all over it. Back in the prior centuries, the fizz or bubbles in champagne was considered a defect, so stirrers were used to flatten the champagne. Eventually that concept faded, but the champagne stirrer found a re-surgence during the decadent cocktail era of the roaring 20's and one of the most chic art Deco cities in the world was Shanghai, hence being dubbed Paris of the East. This silver piece is marked LC Ltd Sterling, a company out of China at that time. It is retractable, with a series of whisk like prongs with ball ends that pop out for prime cocktail stir. This fabulous solid silver retractable propelling pencil has beautiful raised decoration. And has an interesting opening and closing action. One simply pulls and pushes on its end to extend the front and rear sections independently either open or closed. Very clever. Although a little stiff to operate. This very fine pencil is in good overall used condition. With just some minor age and use related wear as they say.
