Rare 2 Troy oz Solid Sterling Silver Honey Dipper-JUDAICA?
wise scn Here we have an antique. Full size, solid sterling silver honey dipper. Weight: 2 Troy Ounces. Length: 14.5cm; 5 3/4" I have scoured the internet. And found only 3 other examples of silver honey dippers online, and all of those were current retail offerings. This one is much larger in overall dimensions and in weight than those others, which included, not surprisingly, a Tiffany. I bought this at an estate sale. And all the other silver items I picked up there ranged in age from the 1860's, to the 1920's. I think this piece is antique, certainly vintage, and was probably Judaica, used for the Rosh Hashana holiday. At some point in time. Someone cut a small slice into the end of the handle to test whether the dipper was solid sterling. I acid tested the filed area, and it is indeed sterling. The cut seems like a dent ... moreif not examined closely. As if the dipper had been dropped on end; a very natural looking minor defect. Other than that. It's in excellent condition. I could not find a hallmark on it.
