The strainer is made from sterling silver with a shaped handle on the side of a pierced circular strainer bowl that has a scrolling upper rim. The tea strainer is designed to sit onto the rim of a cup whilst tea is poured through it straining out the tea leaves and it has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the front of the upper rim has been impressed with a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, E J H- Anchor- Lion Passant- U E J H is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of E J Houlston whose mark is recorded as being used from 1903 to 1963. The Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office. The Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the letter U is the date letter for 19 44. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The Tea Strainer has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the strainer is straight, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the silver hallmark is still clearly legible although as this is a used vintage tea strainer it does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a good clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this vintage strainer can still be used today for loose leaf tea and that it would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that it's almost 70 years old. This wonderful tea ball measures about 1-1/2" diameter by 1-1/2" high and is in good condition for the age. The silver is tarnished and will need a good cleaning. Short and Stout" goes the rhyme, and it could have been written about this adorable chubby tea infuser that comes with it's own teapot lemon fork, both are made of sterling silver. The infuser measures approx. 2" x 2" Chain and ring are approx. 4.5" long, weight is 25.7 grams. It's marked on the bottom as shown. Was patented July 20 1909, made by Simons Bros. of Philadelphia, PA. The too-cute lemon fork has a miniature teapot atop a bamboo-look stem; it's marked"Sterling" on one tine. No other marks. It measures approx. 4" long, weight is 3.1 grams. They both have tarnish. Offered for sale by Caspar’s Place is a sterling silver Chinese paper lantern style ribbed tea ball or strainer or infuser by Webster dating to circa 1910 to 1930. The tea strainer is marked with Webster’s maker’s mark and“STERLING. The teaball is not monogrammed. I have to state that it is only in fair estate condition– the removable lid is missing its fixed handle and its attached chain with a ring on the end for removing the ball from hot tea. Apart from that the tea ball is in overall good estate condition, except for the patina of old tarnish and fine scratches to be expected with age and use. The piece’s price reflects its condition. This tea strainer will make a lovely addition to any silver collection. The teaball weighs approximately 0.28 troy ounces. The lantern body is roughly 1.125” deep and 1.50” in diameter. Beautiful Vintage or Antique(c1862-1967) R. Blackinton Co. Sterling Silver Signed Tea Ball Infuser. This piece measures 1 1/2" wide by 1 1/2" tall and has a weight of 16 grams. This tea ball is as pictured in vintage/antique condition with signs of wear due to age. The chain and ring are believed to have been replaced at some point because they are not solid sterling silver, as the tea ball is. As always please enlarge pictures for better viewing. Vintage Sterling Silver Tea Ball This wonderful early tea ball is marked sterling with a cross hall mark and 1973. It measures about 1 1/2" in diameter and weighs about 24 grams. It has several very minor dents that really don't detract from the piece and might be easily removed by a skilled jeweler. It is otherwise in excellent overall condition with no cips cracks or other damage. See photos to fully appreciate beauty of this piece as well as condition. Vintage Antique Sterling Silver Tea Infuser - George K. Webster Company
This is a George K. Webster sterling silver tea infuser that resembles a lantern with a hinged lid. It has not been professionally cleaned and has a nice patina. If you prefer the silver to shine a cleaning with a good silver cleaner will do the trick. The weight is approximately 13 grams and it measures about 6.5 inches from the ring to the bottom of the infuser.
