Perfect Patent Sprung Solid Silver S. Mordan& Co Novelty Canon Propelling Pencil A perfect solid silver novelty propelling pencil in the form of canon by S. Mordan& Co. The mechanism is sprung and released by pressing the button on the end which springs the propelling pencil extension. It all works perfectly by pushing the barrel closed and giving it a little twist to lock it. It is unusual to find a special peice like this still working and in such good condition. It is clearly stamped S. Mordan Co Patent. Please see photos. It measures 75mm in length and 105mm extended approx. 11mm in diameter of the barrel. It weighs 26 grams Sampson Mordan. Snr was born in 1790 and patented his ever-pointed propelling pencil on 20th December 1822. A Sampson Mordan& Co Solid Silver Large Hatching Chick Pin Cushion Fully Hallmarked for London 1904& in Stunning Condition This is an antique Sterling Silver pin cushion(the large version) in the form of a hatching baby chick emerging from its egg. The silver is fully hallmarked on the side of the pin cushion confirming it was assayed in London in 1904. The hallmark also includes the maker's mark'SM& Co' for Sampson Mordan& Co. Who are regarded as the most desirable manufacturer of pin cushions, etc in the Victorian/Edwardian period. The Sampson Mordan Chick is a design classic. Which they made in a number of sizes and this an excellent example of the largest size. This delightful pin cushion really is a superb example and measures approximately 58mm or 5.8cm high. Overall the condition of this fine piece is extremely ... moregood for an antique pin cushion that is 109 years old. It does have some very minor signs of wear to the surface commensurate with age and use(but the embossed detail is still crisp& fresh) and a couple of minor bruises(one tiny near the base and a flat area to the rear of the shell at the right hand side) that do not detract from the beauty of this superb pin cushion. Victorian Sterling Silver Fob Hung Ink Dip Pen& Pencil by Sampson Mordan& Co of London circa 1880 This Antique Telescopic Retractable Dip Pen& Pencil measures approximately 2 1/2 inches or 64 mm in length from the hanging ring to the end of the body when the pen and pencil are fully retracted and it is just over 3/8 of an inch or 10 mm across the widest part of its lower body from side to side. The pen side is 4 1/2 inches or 11 5 mm in total length from the hanging ring to the end of the nib holder on the dip pen when the body and pen are fully extended and the pencil side is just over 4 1/ 8 inches or 106 mm in length to the end of the pencil when it' s fully extended. The ink dip pen and pencil is made from a sterling silver telescopic body that has a raised relief or engine turn decorated upper body for grip. And also bearing the name W Thornhill& Co(as the retailers) this pen was the multi tool of the era! Originally it would have had a third component propelling from the end- probably a small knife. This has long gone. What remains are the other two propelling components- a dip pen nib. And a holder for pencil lead. No lead remains. Apart from the missing knife. The only other slight issue is the stiffness of the pen nib and lead holder when trying to extend them.
