A charming example of a sterling silver baby rattle complete with working whistle and an iridescent Mother of Pearl teething ring. The rattle has four bells and everything in great condition. These make the most wonderful heirloom gifts for the new little one in the family. This one is hallmarked for Birmingham 1887, making this a true Victorian example. Sweet antique sterling silver rattle. Approximately 3 inches long. Little Bo Peep sitting on a fence is pictured on one side. One of her sheep is pictured on the other. Great detail. As you can tell, this rattle has been very well loved! I am unable to identify the origin of this piece and the maker. There are several possibilities. Such as the Stieff Company, who used the swastika as a date marker for 1928. Asian. Middle Eastern, European ect. have all used the symbol. This auction is for an antique sterling silver baby rattle with a twisted wire handle and a pig's head. This rattle is 4 1/8" tall and weighs.64 ounces or 18.1 grams. The markings on the ring on the bottom of the handle are J.W.R. STERLING. The rattle is in very good condition with a couple of very minor dings on the back of the pig.
