This unusual wine label measures 40mm(1.5' across and weighs 18 grams. It has a strange flower shape profile with Lisbon and a bird perhaps a turkey below. To the back it is just marked with the initials FW in two separate circles. It clearly dates to the early 1800's and is most likely not British in origin as the style and the marks are not ones I recognise I can only guess that it is perhaps American? Antique Judaic Sterling Silver Grape& Vine Decorated L'Chaim Wine Label from Israel circa 1920's This Antique Wine Bottle or Decanter Label measures approximately 4 3/8 inches or 112 mm in length from the base of the label to the top of the chain when it is hanging by 1 1/4 inches or 32 mm across the width of the label from side to side and it is 1 5/8 inches or 42 mm deep from the top of the label to its base. The wine bottle or decanter label is made from sterling silver in a slightly curved shape that has a delightful embossed or raised relief. Pierced and engrave decorated grape vine, leaf and grape panel that is under the pierced Hebrew or Judaic word L'Chaim meaning To Life, the wine label has a sterling silver chain hanging from either side of its upper body and it has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials ... moreor family monogram all as photographed below, the back of the label has been impressed with the word ISRAEL over a ST.925 standard solid sterling silver mark and I estimate that this wine bottle or decanter label was made circa 1920's. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The Label has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I have found, the label is straight, the decoration and definition are crisp. The ISRAEL and 925 standard sterling silver marks are still clearly legible although as this is a used antique wine bottle or decanter label it does have the odd small shallow dent that is hardly worth mentioning along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this antique Judaic wine bottle or decanter label can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it has a delightful antique look about it considering that it's around 90 or so years old.
