The leading edge of the blade which would be used to actually open letters is quite abraded and rough. Vintage Leonore Doskow Sterling Silver Letter Opener. Rare! Up for auction is a sterling silver letter opener by Philadelphia silversmith Leonore Doskow. After learning the art of crafting silver at a summer camp in the 1920's. Leonore started her business out of a 7' x 14' studio in the midst of the Great Depression. In a few short years she was producing items for the likes of Greta Garbo, and having her designs displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art. Today her work is very collectible and, when available, moves quickly. This gem of a letter opener weighs 29.5 grams and is approximately 6" long by 1/2" wide.
