2 antique/ vintage **brass toned** **door knob back plates** 1920's/30's
This auction is for a pair of rectangular antique door plates. These doorplates are plated steel- a magnet does stick to them. The coating is a brass color. With some darkening toward"antique" brass. These w ould have been used with an old. Large mortise-type lockset and skeleton key- neither is included. The plates measure 8" high x 2 1/2" wide. T he spacing from the center of the knob hole to the center of the round portion of the skeleton key hole is 2 1/4" I believe these door knob back plates were manufactured and sold in the 1920's and/ or 1930's. Possibly even the teens. But I wasn't around back then, so I can't say for sure. These plates are in very nice condition. I think they are"new old stock" they came from an auction of items from an old. Closed hardware store. I believe them ... moreto be unused- t here is no paint or varnish on them, no scratches or marks in or around the screw holes from screws having been put in or removed. And no wear marks inside the holes(ferrules) for the door knobs to show they have been in use. There are some small scratches. Etc from many, many years in storage and imperfect handling through the decades. I have only just washed them with soap and water. Vintage Antique door knob back plates Brass copper beaded rim
Bidding on this vintage pair of antique back plates. they are brass but have a copper tone to them. The knob in the last photo is not included. Just to give you an idea of what it could look like with proper knobs. These knobs I have as a seperate auction. There are knobs on line that are brass beaded. I don't have any at this time. The plates are about 9" long and 3" at the widest point. the inside hole for the knob is 3/4" outside. Then beveels in to 5/8" If your knob has a base rim of 3/4 or larger it will REST on the rim of the plate. If it is 5/8 it will sit in the rim.

Antique Art Deco Metal Door Knob Set 2 w/ Face Plates
This is truly a great set. The knobs measure about 2.5 inches in length by about 1.5 inches wide. The door face plates have a very similar design to the knobs and are a nice match. The shaft that holds the knobs is starting to split. The plates measure about 2 1/4 inches in width by about 7 inches in length. Please see the pictures and my store for many more great items.

Set of 4 Antique Eastlake Victorian Single Skeleton Key Door Knob Back Plates
Set of four antique stamped door knob escutcheon(back plates) that retain lovely Victorian details. 1 13/16 inches wide. 5.5 inches high. Some dings and scratches but otherwise great condition. These were heavily painted over and carefully cleaned. Though some small areas of paint remain hidden inside and outside the door knob hole and some tiny specks remain on plate(see photos) Could be further cleaned and shined by buyer if desired; I left as is in case buyer does not want it too shiny. Not magnetic, could be brass or gold-toned steel. If buyer does not intend to use these as actual door back plates. This is a hard-to-find Victorian Eastlake design by P.F. Corbin. This is the"Canton" design. c1905. Very ornate. This is a pressed steel plate with bronze plating. The bronze plating is now warmly distressed. Condition is very good. No cracks or breakage. No chips. No paint. No rust to the face. But there is miniscule oxidation on reverse. Circa 1870-1905. They are heavy cast door plates. Condition is very good. No rust. No paint or varnish. They still have a good deal of their original brass plating whick in its current state is a warm aged brass. One is missing the reducer in the center of the doorknob collar where the spindle goes through(easily replaced with a washer) The other has an original mold flaw on its square door knob collar.
