i This photo was took before I polished it(its better now) you can see my safe plate mirrored in the Bakelite! 1950/60s'PRESTO' Bakelite switch in almost perfect condition! Yes it passes all the tests for true Bakelite! Bakelite or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. Is an early type of plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin. Formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It was developed by Belgian-born chemist Leo Baekeland in New York in 1907. One of the first plastics made from synthetic components. Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators. Radio and telephone casings, and such diverse products as kitchenware. Jewellery. Pipe stems, and children's toys. Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark in 1993 ... moreby the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world's first synthetic plastic. The" retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. In great working order! Heavy duty 10 amp porcelain switch- ideal for lighting- they were used in a typical 1950's office to switch the lights on(and off) but can be used outdoors- they have a rubber gasket) Designed to be used with 3/4 inch standard conduit that(due to the frogs- decimalisation) is now changed to 22mm- so if you use new conduit an innocuous small adaptor(£1) can easily be obtained from the conduit suppliers. I will look to find my stash and put one in with this) I have only ever seen them at one location- there were four switches in some offices at a n old factory near Sheffield and that's it! Never seen anything like them before or since. They are made from a lovely rich chocolate coloured thick Bakelite. That I have further enhanced by Polishing. The switch mechanism is a rotary one that turns through 360 degrees either way and so cannot be forced past any stops- so no danger of breakage, it has a nice defined'clunk' Most of the switches I am sell

7 Vintage Leviton "Snapit" wall plates, for switches, ivory
A lot of seven vintage Leviton"Snapit" wall plates. For standard toggle switches. Snapit plates were Leviton's own style of wall plate, and feature wide ridges running vertically on the plate face, similar to the classic Uniline style. They're kind of hard to come by, I haven't seen any in years. These Bakelite plates are unused, and three of them are still in the plastic wrapper, but all of them are in pretty rough shape from being stored poorly. I've cleaned them as best as I can, but you can see some staining on the bottom edge of the one in the photo, several of them have similar marks and a couple of them have some marks on the faces. However, there are no scratches, cracks, or chips in these plates. I think they'd take a coat of paint really well and would add a funky, retro touch to a house or a retro-themed ... moreoffice. After all, it's the little details that make a room!

Vintage Uniline 4-gang wall plate, ivory, for light switches, NOS
One vintage. New old stock, Uniline four gang wall plate, for standard toggle switches. This plate was made by Bryant, probably sometime in the fifties, and is in the classic Uniline ribbed style. It's still in the original paper wrapper, and has the original screws to go with it. Larger wall plates in this style are quite hard to find, as it was uncommon for there to be more than two devices at any location, particularly in houses but also in commercial buildings. Four gang plates are even harder to come by, unused ones rarer still! This plate is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, or scratches, and is a lovely creamy ivory color. This would be a great finishing touch to a mid century home restoration, or a retro-styled office or store(although I think Uniline plates just look neat anywhere!

When you turn the switch off. There is a several minute delay before it switches your light off. According to the advertisment, this would give the user time to get into bed or move out of the room before the lights went of. An interesting concept I must say, too bad it never really caught on making this a pretty rare item. The unit does click several minutes after flipping the switch so I am guessing it still works. I cannot say how reliable these were or are since the item is so old. The packaging is great with Arthurs face printed on it along with the sales pitch! Item packaging is good with no major damage.
