Circa 1870-1905. They are heavy cast door plates. Condition is very good. No rust. No paint or varnish. They still have a good deal of their original brass plating whick in its current state is a warm aged brass. The knob and lock openings are offset by about ¾ of an inch, so one escutcheon(the outside one) would be installed higher than the other one to make the openings line up. Up for auction is this pair of large 11" cast iron door plates/escutcheons. The plates are in excellent original condition with no chips. Cracks, breaks or repairs and only need some wire brushing to clean up. They are heavy and have a Greek Key design around the edges. The bushing for the door knob is made of brass. These measures 3 14" wide x 10 3/4" long and are 1/8" thick. The holes for the knob and lock measure 3" on center. Up for auction is this pair of heavy 8" cast iron door plates/escutcheons. The plates are in excellent original condition with no chips. Notice that these plates do not have the key holes for the old mortise type lock, so if you were to use these on an exterior door with a dead bolt, they would work perfect. What seems to be unique about them is that they are unpainted and they have no paint residue. A magnet does NOT stick to them so this leads to think they must be brass. This auction is for a grand Victorian door handle and both door plates for either side of the door. The larger plate measures 12 1/2" in length and the smaller plate measures 8 1/2" in length. The antique cast iron mail slot measures 9 1/2" in length. There is also a cast iron lock mechanism and a plate. The door handle has a fantastic curly-cue design seen in the center on both sides. Two Matching Vintage Heavy Brass Ornate Door Plates, Escutcheons
Offered for auction are these two matching great old antique ornate cast brass fancy escutcheons or door plates with space for a lock and door knob. These plates are in very good vintage condition with very minor surface wear. These are each quite heavy with an open curlicue design on the top and bottom. These plates are 12 inches long. 2 5/8” wide, and 1/8” thick. The hole for the lock has a diameter of 1 5/8. The small hole has a diameter of 1/2. The holes are 1 3/8” apart. These escutcheons will most certainly provide a means to create a unique, decorative look on your doors. Important Information I am in the process of selling objects which I have collected over many years of attending estate auctions.
