2 antique/ vintage **brass toned** **door knob back plates** 1920's/30's
This auction is for a pair of rectangular antique door plates. These doorplates are plated steel- a magnet does stick to them. The coating is a brass color. With some darkening toward"antique" brass. These w ould have been used with an old. Large mortise-type lockset and skeleton key- neither is included. The plates measure 8" high x 2 1/2" wide. T he spacing from the center of the knob hole to the center of the round portion of the skeleton key hole is 2 1/4" I believe these door knob back plates were manufactured and sold in the 1920's and/ or 1930's. Possibly even the teens. But I wasn't around back then, so I can't say for sure. These plates are in very nice condition. I think they are"new old stock" they came from an auction of items from an old. Closed hardware store. I believe them ... moreto be unused- t here is no paint or varnish on them, no scratches or marks in or around the screw holes from screws having been put in or removed. And no wear marks inside the holes(ferrules) for the door knobs to show they have been in use. There are some small scratches. Etc from many, many years in storage and imperfect handling through the decades. I have only just washed them with soap and water. I received the plates as you see them- I do NOT have any knobs or screws to go with them- sorry. This auction is for only TWO door knob back plates. Photography is not one of my strong points. So I took two pictures to help you evaluate these escutcheons. The doll a r bill is shown only to give you an idea of scale. But you are bidding on. And will only receive, TWO door plates. Bidding on this vintage pair of antique back plates. they are brass but have a copper tone to them. The knob in the last photo is not included. Just to give you an idea of what it could look like with proper knobs. These knobs I have as a seperate auction. There are knobs on line that are brass beaded. I don't have any at this time. The plates are about 9" long and 3" at the widest point. the inside hole for the knob is 3/4" outside. Then beveels in to 5/8" If your knob has a base rim of 3/4 or larger it will REST on the rim of the plate. If it is 5/8 it will sit in the rim.

This is a beautiful pair of Antique Victorian cast brass rosettes. They have some traces of old paint on them. And one is a little darker than the other, but they still look great. NOS vintage Victorian Unused brass finish door knob plates set of two
I recently acquired several large boxes of vintage hardware from a Simmons Hardware in McComb Ohio. Alot of these items are in marked boxes and have hand writing on them from the old school fountain pens or even quill pens.not real sure. These items were never used and some of them have patent dates from the 1800's. Many pieces are not marked on the item itself at all. Even though these items are N.O.S. some of thes still have patina and some even have some rust from over 100 years of humidity etc. There is so much stuff I do not have the time to clean all of it so a lot of the items will be as found.
