Charter Oak Stove Grate Very Heavy with Acorn Design
This is absolutely lovely. Yes. It does have some missing crome color, but still is a quality piece. Measures 7 5/8" x 6 3/4" approximately. You can see the lovely design and that wonderful acorn in the center. My mother used it as a trivet, but it weighs 2 lb. 5 oz. before shipping materials. Above the acorn stem is a hole that would fit the swing arm for the stove. The back has the numbers 40 and 1902 raised on it. You can see the square that the hole/swing arm goes to. Antique home floor furnace vent/ grate. In relatively good shape. Considering the age! Some surface rusting here and there, but no rust holes, no bent corners or other problem areas. The hole in the floor must be at least 12" x 9" And no larger than 14 3/8" x 11 5/16" The 12" x 9" dimensions represent the drop-in dimensions. the dimensions of the portion of the grate that will drop down inside the floor, whereas the 14 3/8" x 11 5/16" represent the overall dimensions, as looking down on the grate from above. Has seven horizontal fins on the underside which open and close normally by means of flipping the adjustment knob on top to one side or the other. Quite heavy. Durable, and built like a tank. quite a contrast to the cheap ones made today and found at any home improvement store.

The hammered design on this is quite nice. I only have the one. But you may have the other! I know nothing about andirons. This and two others I will be listing also were in our 1840 home when we bought it. We put in a fireplace insert and had no use for them. They've been down in the cellar for 45 years! Plus) I'm not sure of the material. I believe it to be iron and the grate cast iron. It also looks like it might be brass under all that black! Don't know. Your guess is as good as mine! I only washed them lightly and sprayed them with WD40 to prevent any more rusting. I couldn't make out the numbers in picture 7 and 8. Maybe you can. I do see a 3. Under the right front leg is the number 8700. It weighs around 16 pounds! The cast iron grate part seems to weigh the most. It measure approximately 17 inches tall, length from ... morefront to end of grate is about 22. The ball measures about 10" around. The feet design is worn and some of the iron appears to be gone as you would expect for something this old. Antique Cast Iron Arts Crafts Tudor Gothic Fireplace Coal Grate Electric Fire
This ingenious creation by the Adams Company of Dubuque Iowa dates from the middle 1910s-early 1920s and adapts a genuine cast iron fireplace coal grate. It measures 10 ½” deep with the back height 16 ½” and the front height 13 ½” It tapers toward the back so it is 22 ½” wide at the front and only13 ½” wide at the back. The assembly is well cast with Arts and Crafts detail painted black and accented in gold. They have substituted a tin bottom for the coal grille and installed a single porcelain socket and side switch with pin wheel blade suspended in the middle. The standard base socket accommodates a red bulb(missing) whose heat provides updraft that makes the pinwheel spin offering a“flickering” effect. Further fire-like atmosphere was often achieved by installing clear or colored glass marbles(such as those found ... moreat craft stores) that offered a glowing coal effect. It is quite clean and comes with the original wire mesh cover. The outfit will be shipped disassembled for safety and economy. These gates were used to protect the cellar windows on a Victorian home in Philadelphia. They have curlicues at the top and bottom.
