Mid Century Modern Dansk Denmark Quistgaard IHQ Teak Salt & Pepper Mill Grinder
Up for bid is a vintage combination teak pepper grinder and salt shaker. It was designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs. LTD from the 1960's. Mid-century style, Eames Era. This combo piece is in wonderful working condition. The pepper mill was made in Denmark and is 9" tall. The top of the salt shaker portion has 6 holes and removable wooden stopper. I have left the stopper a little up, because I don't want it to get stuck before the buyer receives it. Because it has been used, one side of the stopper has a few dings from taking the top off and on(see photos 5) The pepper grinding mechanism on the bottom has a rotating black disk to insert peppercorns. Description: Up for auction is a lovely pair of a 10” tall teak pepper mill with its matching salt shaker. Both of them open from the top and the salt is threaded wood which shows these to be an older than usual pair. The color and patina is something that you only get with age as you can see in my pictures. Please look at all my pictures to judge color and condition for yourself. Dansk Teak Salt Shaker/Pepper Mill by Jens Quistgaard- What an absolute beauty this vintage Dansk Teak Salt Shaker/Pepper Mill is! The condition is excellent. Although upon very close scrutiny you will see a surface scratch or two. Not at all a detraction and appropriate for its age. The hallmarks on the base of the mill read: Dansk Designs Ltd. Denmark IHQ w/a copyright symbol. Remarkably, it appears that the salt shaker portion of this piece has never been used. The teak and cork'plug' is easily removed to reveal a clean chamber for the salt to go into. There is some pepper left in the mill and the mechanism grinds it beautifully. I will leave the removal of the remaining pepper in the mill to the successful bidder if so desired. Measurements: 7.25" High x roughly 2.75" wide at base. We obtained this and many other rare Dansk items from a local estate from whom a member of the family had been an early Dansk retailer. Many of these items were unused samples. The wood has a beautiful color that only comes with years of aging. I believe the wood to be either teak or Pao Rosa. I think in the late 70s. We filled it but I don't think we used it more than a couple of times and it's been sitting on a pantry shelf ever since. According to the information we found online. This model is called"Mushroom Disguise" It was designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard, is made of teak, and was made in Denmark. The peg in the top removes for filling with salt. There is a turn mechanism on the bottom where you add peppercorns. The grinder mechanism, according to info online, was made by either Tre Spade or Peugeot and has a black plastic outer. It's 8 7/8" tall and 2.8" wide. Condition is pretty much excellent-I ... moredon't see any flaws though I may have squeezed the peg a bit to remove it(it fits tight. Beautiful set. Salt and pepper shaker. Super nice condition with barely a scuff. Both have original stopper plugs and are very clean. The pepper grinder has a hairline split in one stage but it's a natural split and only in one layer of wood. A little oxidation on the salt shaker brass top. Salt is naturally corrosive so that is to be expected. Finish is very nice with no real scratches and shows little wear at all.

For sale is a set of mid century. Danish Modern, teak salt and pepper shakers. The pepper shaker is actually a grinder, or mill, as the teak top rotates around. These pieces are from the vintage Dansk era, but are only marked"Made in Denmark" with a patent number. The home they came from had higher end teak Danish Modern furniture, so I feel confident that these would be of good quality as well. Minor wear may be found, nothing terrible. Really these pieces need a little teak, or Danish, oil to polish these pieces up and blend in the tiny imperfections. No scratches, gouges, etc. Shakers measure 4" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter. The piece is made of teak and is in very good working condition. There is some light wear on the bottom. It measures 7.25" tall and is 3.5" in diameter. Salt is stored on the top(remove the cap on top) Peppercorns are stored on the bottom(slide the slot to access hole) There is one small blemish. Please see pictures.
