A water jug by F. R. Fischer. Germany, pre-1915* Please scroll down for more pictures The jug is of spherical form with cup-shaped lid and curving thumb-rest and raffia covered handle. The jug itself is executed in hand hammered copper while the spout. Thumb-rest and handle in brass. It has interior pewter plating and bears the Fischer factory mark(two fish in an oval) the underside. Size: It stands at about 22 cm or 9 inches in height. Condition: Very good original condition. With only minor surface signs of age and use. There are no significant damages- just a couple of minor bumps to the metal. The fragile raffia handle is fragile but in good condition. This is a historically significant and extremely rare find dating from the end of the Art Nouveau period. A significant precursor of modernism. This design is held in the collection of ... morethe Bröhan Museum of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism, in Berlin and illustrated and described in the museum's catalogue, Modern Art of Metalwork, on page 155. Another example of this jug is on display at the Bauhaus Archiv in Berlin. It also appeared in the Deutsches Warenbuch of 1915 and bears close comparison to contemporary Deutscher Werkbund pieces by Peter Behrens. Bruno Paul, Josef Maria Olbrich and Richard Riemerschmid and others. In fact. In some volumes the design is firmly attributed to Riemerschmid, although this is not substantiated by Brohan, probably the most authoritative source. The Deutscher Werkbund(DWB) was a group founded by Peter Behrens and Josef Hoffmann and involving Walter Gropius among others to promote the marriage of artistic endeavour with mass production. Bathroom door handles by the Modernist Architect Hans POELZIG 1940s Bauhaus Rare
These striking period door handles were specifically designed for the administrative offices of the giant I.G. Farben paint factory in Frankfurt. The building. Completed in 1931, was the work of the architect, painter and set designer Hans Poelzig. One of the progenitors of the Modern Movement. Poelzig participated in the first major International Style project, the 1927 Die Wohnung expo. The event saw the construction of an entire estate of modernist dwellings in the elevated Weissenhof suburb of Stuttgart. Poelzig contributed a prototype single family house alongside Le Corbusier. Mies van der Rohe, Gropius and Behrens among others. His imposing I.G. Farben building still stands and has become the centrepiece of the Goethe University campus in Frankfurt. Poelzig died in 1936. Copper or brass- are signed Meersburg, the town on Lake Constance where he was able to set up in business after 1933. Here he enjoyed the artistic influence of his friend the abstract painter Julius Bissier. Modernist desk lamp CHRISTIAN DELL Kaiser Idell BAUHAUS 1930s EARLY PRODUCTION
An early production Model 6556 desk lamp designed by Christian Dell for Gebr ü der Kaiser& Co. Neheim-Hüsten, Germany, c.1933 This is a Model 6556 desk or table lamp. Designed by the former head of the Bauhaus metalwork department in 1933. The elongated shade and the large ball at the foot of the shaft marks this out as being a rare pre-Second World War production. As the master in charge of the metalwork department at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar. Christian Dell(1893-1974) worked in close collaboration with other modernist luminaries such as Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Marianne Brandt, Hin Bredendieck and Hans Przyrembel. Although also a silversmith and jeweller he is now best known as functionalist innovator and a key figure in the development of industrial lighting. His significance in the story of twentieth century design is ... morebecoming increasingly recognised by museums worldwide. Materials: Lacquered steel. Size: About 47cm(18.5 inches) in height. Please see my final photo; the pre-war model is shown on the left. Condition: The lamp is in very good original condition with expected traces of age and use but no damages. There is some minor general ageing and wear including some dulling to the lacquer. But no damages such as splits, cracks or deep scratches. The lamp has vintage- though apparently not original- continental European wiring and is electrically untested. The switch is a modern replacement that's entirely in keeping with the original. Wilhelm Wagenfeld Butter Dish Modernist Bauhaus WMF 1950s Mid-Century Modern
A modernist serving dish designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld for WMF. 1951 Stainless steel This piece was designed by the Bauhaus designer for WMF in 1951 and produced as WMF model number 541.21. It is a perfect expression of Wagenfeld's celebrated contribution to the Bauhaus tradition as an inexpensive. Effortlessly functional and essentially democratic household object. The dish measures approximately 315 mm long and 160 mm wide. Condition: The dish is in excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of age. It is apparently unused. A pair of modernist snail pliers in original box. Designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld for WMF, 1958 These modernist snail pliers were designed by the Bauhaus designer for WMF in 1958 and produced(as WMF model number 549.01) until the 1980s. They are a perfect expression of Wagenfeld's celebrated contribution to the Bauhaus tradition as inexpensive. Effortlessly functional and essentially democratic household objects. The pliers measure approximately 15.4 cm long and are fully marked on the underside. The pliers come in their original box. Please note that although the there is a fork pictured on the box. There is no fork included with this sale. My research suggests that a fork was never actually included, so the box picture is a little confusing. Modernist Bauhaus Influenced Vintage Metal Table Lamp Made by Werner in England
A modernist lamp. Bauhaus style, with base formed of three chromed legs and one black matte metal leg, between matte black ends, supporting a clear globe. The plug is made of Bakelite. The original globe was broken and this is an acrylic globe with an Edison bulb. This lamp is difficult to place. It has some electrical fittings that could suggest it was refitted in the 1970's or it could be from the 1970's. The label on the bottom says'Werner England' and has a logo for the Werner company, which I have been unable to locate. The lamp is definitely Bauhaus influenced if not Bauhaus. The lamp will include the acrylic globe and Edison bulb seen in the photos. The lamp measure 18" from bottom to the top of the globe. It is 7 1/2" in diameter on the base. And 13" in height from the bottom to the top of the socket. ... moreThis lamp has an 8" detachable globe. The globe has a 4" opening. Five original monthly comapny newsletters published by the Leipzig-based industrial lighting firm Kandem. Which formed a working relationship with the Dessau Bauhaus. Background: Walter Gropius intended the Bauhaus at Dessau to be a factory of ideas and innovation that attracted the co-operation of industry. He hoped that the design prototypes his masters and students produced would be taken up by the leading companies of the day and- in close collaboration with the School- developed for industrial production. This ambition was successful only in a few cases. But these original brochures speak of one such collaboration. This is an original example of the famous ink bottle that the Bauhaus trained(and former Bauhaus teacher) Wagenfeld originally designed for the Guenter Wagner company, the makers ... moreof Pelikan branded pens and inks, in the late 1930s. It is a superb example of his Wagenfeld's every day functionalism. Wilhelm Wagenfeld had enrolled at the Weimar Bauhaus in 1923 and studied in the metalwork department under Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and alongside Marianne Brandt. Over his subsequent career he developed several significant industrial design commissions. Notably creating products in metal and glass for WMF, Jenaer Glass and Vereinigte Lausitzer Glassworks. He also designed for Braun in the mid-1950s. Contributing the landmark Combi portable radio-phonograph in 1955 and PC-3 record player in 1957. Among other items. His considerable influence at the outset of the firm’s foray into audio and was described as the“mentor of Braun Design” by company director Erwin Braun. a modernist / brutalist brass candlestick Vintage 1960's 70's Danish ? Bauhaus ?
a vintage brass candlestick unknown manufacturer or designer. in the modernist/ brutalist style. circa 1960 the candlestick has a curved base with 2 pointed and curved sides designed to reflect the candlelight. the candle holder is attached to the top of the base. it is made from good quality heavy gauge brass(3 mm thick) and is heavy and robust. it measures 27.5 cm high x 13.25 cm wide x 4.5 cm deep the candle holder measures 4 cm high and is designed to hold candles 1.25 cm wide. weighs 695 grams it is in good vintage condition with some signs of age. It has a number of scuffs and nicks and some scratches near the candle holder where wax residue has been removed. Structurally it is fine with no loose connections. it is an unusual sculptural candlestick that displays well. Hyper-inflation banknote Weimar BAUHAUS Herbert Bayer 1923 Modernist Typography
ITEM DETAILS The note is in good good circulated condition with some wear and marking consistent with age and use. It measures approx. 9.1 cm x 14.4 cm. CONTEXT Herbert Bayer attended the Weimar Bauhaus as a pupil from 1921 to 1923. At the time the economic crisis in post-WW1 Weimar was developing and reaching its dramatic peak. He initially took Johannes Itten's revolutionary Preliminary Course on colour and form. Then moved on to study mural painting with Wassily Kandinsky and Oskar Schlemmer. It was at this time that he created the Universal alphabet; the lower-case only typography now synonymous with the Bauhaus and its powerful legacy. In 1923 he was also commissioned by the Thüringian State in Weimar to design the new high value banknotes. The impoverished Weimer Republic government was desperately producing emergency money- ... moreincreasingly high single note denominations- in an attempt to combat acute hyper-inflation. Bayer returned to the Bauhaus in 1925- now located at Dessau- as teacher. To lead a new course in advertising and typography. He remained a tutor there until 1928, the same year Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius departed.
