It has very minor wear to the chrome.No pitting or large scratches ... morevery very displayable. The only major wear to the lucite is on the poker piece there is a small flaw as seen in the close up. This is not a chip out of the edge but something like an impact crack. This does not take away from the display of the piece or make it weak in any way. The swirl lines in the picture of the handle close up is the hardwood floor lines this is not damage to the handle. Since the handles screw off i thought about having it ground down as you would glass but i will leave that up to the new owner. Also as seen in the close up photo of the brush the plastic bristles have been melted on one side of the brush but still displays nice from the other side and these are replaceable as well. And finally the reverse side of the set picture close up at the bottom shows the screw heads have some surface rust on them. Mid-Century Modern Ice Bucket. I believe this is another one of Dorothy Thorpe's fantastic designs from the era. The Ice Bucket is made of Lucite and Acrylic. It is square in shape with a lid that rest down inside. The Lid is really what gives the Bucket such a super design. There are solid square Lucite Ice Cubes piled and applied to the top. There are two long. Thin rectangle applied handles on two sides of the Ice Bucket. Inside of the Ice Bucket. There's an Acrylic square shaped container that's removable. Vintage Lucite Resin Table Flower Bowl, By Designer Dorothy Thorpe, Mid Century
Hi. This is a wonderful mid century Bowl. From research and confirmation from another very nice ebayer, this is by designer Dorothy Thorpe. More sculpture than bowl. This gorgeous giant flower is a mid-century masterpiece. It is made of chunky cast resin in a voluptuous flower form, with two layers of petals and a heavy, solid base. The resin has a satiny frosted look to the surface. Slight scratching and imperfections from the mold. Each petal seems to have a slight difference. Two or three of the petals have an etched sharpness to them and hard to tell if it is damage or from the mold. Never the less it does not deter from the uniqueness of this bowl. It measures 12 inches across from petal to petal with bowl opening at 6 1/2 inches. Stands 5 inches high and weighs approx. 4 1/2 lbs. The Lucite is very clear and clear from any cracks or crazing. There are some very minor scratches if examined closely. The Lucite was polished with Novus 1-2-3. The silver plated cups and catches were polished with silver cleaning cream. Some of the areas are still dull. Pitted, or darkened in areas, probably from age or plating wear. Up for auction is a beautiful set of six vintage Lucite or acrylic pretzel napkin rings or holders designed by Dorothy Thorpe of California. These iconic mid-century modern clear Lucite napkin rings feature a classic twisted pretzel shape. The dimensions are approximately 2 3/4" by 2 1/4" This set of six pretzel napkin ring holders is in great gently-used vintage condition with no chips or cracks and very little surface marks or wear(please see all photos) A wonderful addition for the collector of Dorothy C. Dorothy Thorpe Style Resin Lucite Lotus Leaf Matte Display Bowl
Description: Beautiful and unusual sculpted resin bowl in the style of the Dorothy Thorpe pieces. Very heavy. Solid matte resin construction. Believe it could be depicting a lotus leaf, but unsure. I think it's purpose may have been as a"floater" bowl, the kind that was popular for filling with water and floating blossoms in it. The color is a lot less pink-ish than in the photos, more of a matte off-white to yellowish color. Back is unmarked and is ground flat. Have tried to find other Dorothy Thorpe pieces like it, but have not seen any so far. Am unfamiliar with her resin/ lucite pieces, would appreciate it if any Thorpe experts out there would know for sure. The sticker residue on back is also not circular like most D.T. stickers. Still would be a great looking piece for display. Condition: In good vintage condition with ... moreno cracks or chips. Inclusions and bubbling in the resin. Some light wear. Scuffs and scratches. Some scuffing along edges. The interior has moderate hard water deposits- we did try to clean it gently, but due to the bumpy nature of the resin, it was difficult to get all of the deposits out.
