This is one of the earliest models judging by the power plug. Exceptional condition with many features, please see General Description and Condition sections. General Description: This is a quality item. A very early Gerald Thurston floor lamp standing 56" tall with a 23" diameter shade. A highly sought after Floor lamp with minimal footprint as an alternative to the Thurston tripod lamp(the model I'm selling is taller) It is capable of being tucked between furniture whereas the tripod model requires larger footprint area. This model has a very heavy poured 12" wide ingot at the bottom stamped with model number and Lightolier's manufacturer mark, with the ingot itself having 6 feet as part of pour, resulting in the lamp being raised 1/2 above the ground. Above this rests a 12"metal curved thick plate cover, and above this a 7" white thick metal plate that contrasts the 3 poles that rise to the lamp diffuser and shade. The light socket is a three-way switch meaning three power levels can be used with an appropriate bulb providing the right lighting at various times from a soft glow to a full illumination of a room. Typically a 150 watt bulb is used. The white perforated metal sections disburse the light with concentration on downward and uninhibited up ceiling/wall washing. With a very large wide shade of 23" that does not blind you when being viewed, yet due to it's size provides a large amount of light. It was the favorite of young moderns who used it to illuminate bedrooms, living rooms. Halls and dens. Model home builders made a point to hang a goose neck lamp upon a wall when decorating their models because the gooseneck lamp was to early mid century model homes what granite counters were to model homes in the post-millennium. Gerald Thurston. Lightolier's in-house designer had designed many gooseneck lamps and was always finding ways to introduce new style and practicality into the designs he crafted for Lightolier. This lamp has two smaller conical shades. These use the smaller appliance sized standard base bulbs. Allowing for a smaller more stylish shade. ... moreFor the most part up until the early fifties. The gooseneck lamps had larger shades. Thurston was one of the pioneers who tried to bring the shade size down and make it more compact. This lamp is very rakish and sleek- the utmost of sophistication for 1954! This lamp has the unusual double push-button design. This allowed for instant gratification for the user and turned on or off the desired light instantly without having to cycle through a three way switch. This was particularly popular when the lamp was placed in a guest room with two beds and this would not interrupt someone's sleep by switching on their lamp in the cycling process. This lamp is in nice condition. There are a few scrapes and minor dings. But the lamp is extremely presentable and hardly shows its age at all. Not many of these are left any more. Very funky piece of vintage decor. I can't tell you much more about it than that. except that I saved it from the dump. It's made of brass and steel painted black. and that I've rewired it and replaced the lamp holder. The wire and socket that I took out of there were OLD crumbling bakelite! I'm guessing 1940s-1950s. This lamp looks great in mid/ mod. Retro, industrial, techy, steampunk etc. settings and goes great with the whole C.Jere, Eames, Knoll, etc vibe. Gerald Thurston is my(amateur) attribution. Sorry. Scarce Gerald Thurston plug-in sconce/wall lamp. With chocolate brown cone, and large taupe oval up-light. Definitely one of his'blue-chip' designs. Circa 1955. the side by side double cone versions. Are more common albeit rare too) Condition: Overall. Very good condition, with age appropriate wear. Small nick near the switch on the cone. And some aged patina on the metal bar. Some paint loss on the INNER up-light near bulb. Overall. Looks fantastic. Push button switch turns on up-light, and knob at the end of the cone turns the cone on. Extends from wall about 17 inches. Rare Early Lightolier Gerald Thurston Hairpin Wrought Iron Floor Lamp Vintage
Product A very rare and early mid century modern model Wrought Iron Hairpin Floor Lamp by designer Gerald Thurston- thought to be produced by lightolier. This model dates to the late 40's. Possibly early 50's and represents very early work by Gerald Thurston when he first started the"tripod" floor lamp design. Still maintaining that entry style into modernism, it has three candelabra style fittings holding each one full size bulb. The switch on the center of the spoke allow you to have either 1.2 or all 3 lamps illuminated. Quite tall at 59" And quite heavy, note the use of a solid iron poured weight as a finial at the bottom of the lamp. The hairpin design is excellent and was used by many other designers like Tony Paul and others. The lamp shade is 16" on top. 18 on the bottom and 12" high. The Lamp is very ... moreold and was put through an extensive restoration and now looks amazing. You will not find old genuine Thurston Lamps with excellent brass as in his early production. They used lacquer over steel mostly, and it corrodes after 30 years. Condition Extensively restored with brass parts repolished and faux brass finished parts(that were originally covered with a toned lacquer to look like brass) have been re-lacquered in a deep tone that will lighten over time. It was the favorite of young moderns who used it to illuminate bedrooms, living rooms. Halls and dens. Model home builders made a point to hang a goose neck lamp upon a wall when decorating their models because the gooseneck lamp was to early mid century model homes what granite counters were to model homes in the post-millennium. Gerald Thurston. Lightolier's in-house designer had designed many gooseneck lamps and was always finding ways to introduce new style and practicality into the designs he crafted for Lightolier. This lamp has two smaller conical shades. These use the smaller ... moreappliance sized standard base bulbs. Allowing for a smaller more stylish shade. For the most part up until the early fifties. The gooseneck lamps had larger shades. Thurston was one of the pioneers who tried to bring the shade size down and make it more compact. This lamp is very rakish and sleek- the utmost of sophistication for 1954! This lamp has the unusual double push-button design. This allowed for instant gratification for the user and turned on or off the desired light instantly without having to cycle through a three way switch. This was particularly popular when the lamp was placed in a guest room with two beds and this would not interrupt someone's sleep by switching on their lamp in the cycling process. This lamp is in nice condition. There are a few scrapes and minor dings. But the lamp is extremely presentable and hardly shows its age at all. Not many of these are left any more. Black plastic case with adjustable brass louvers. Pull chain, Lightolier logo on plug, label as shown. Louvers control the intensity of the light and cast a pleasing glow. Condition: This sconce is in good working condition with no cracks. There is one small corner nick or chip to the top rear corner of the plastic housing as shown in the last four photos, please review for details. This sconce retains the original brass weight on the end of the pull chain, the brass louvers are intact and overall in good condition, ... morethere is one scratch to the top right louver as photographed. Also these louvers seem to either rest all the way up or all the way closed/down. I think originally they were made with more tension so you could adjust the angle, right now that tension is gone and I'm not sure how you could adjust it…you may need to play with it or add some sort of shim. This auction is for a vintage set of 9 Lightolier demi Lune wall sconces. They are all identical. They measure 12" wide and are all in good used condition and are all labeled. They take one bulb each. Overall this is a nice set and its rare to find this many matching vintage fixtures. The rounded front pieces detach from the back with two screws so I can disassemble them and ship the whole set very reasonably.

Gerald Thurston for Lightolier Spider Lamp vintage modern mid century
Thurston wall lamp for Lightolier. 1950s. Unusual design with 5 metal shades in charcoal. Coral, sea foam, black and dove grey. There is a center rod that extends downward so you can swing it from side to side. Also, a weight on the cord so you can raise or lower. The lights also spin. Notice the shape of the wall bracket. This fixture has been stored in a box for decades, I only hung it to photograph it, once installed the cords will relax and not look so kinked. The coral shade has paint loss/chips. Charcoal shade looks re-painted at some point, and brass is discolored. Otherwise it is all original and complete. No dents or surprises on any shades. When the weight is pulled all the way down, the height of fixture is 34"

We obtained it from the estate of the original owners where it sat in the same living room since new. Truly in time-warp condition. The brass is bright and free of blemishes. The original shade is in excellent condition and quite rare to find still with the lamp. We would like to mention that there are a handful of paint wear spots on the interior metal perforated shades. I really believe this American made 1950's double cone shade Brass desk lamp IS designed by Gerald Thurston for Lightolier. Whose lamps I've had many of, though because I don't have positive verification to share I won't guarantee it. No matter what, the quality and design are equal to it, condition as described for accuracy, still displays well despite flaws, 12" high x 18 1/2" at the widest point. 3 Position switch works good in all positions, either side on by itself or both on at once and off.

Wow.found this gem in the middle of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! This Lightolier floor lamp was designed by the noted mid century designer Gerald Thurston. Probably from the late 50s or early 60s. Some condition issues- see notes and pics. But still a great piece with a lot of life left! Easily used as-is, or a perfect candidate for restoration. Adjusts in height from 50" to about 53" the shade measures 15" across and the VERY HEAVY base is 12" across. Shipping will be pricey. Due to the lead weighted base and the length(doesn't come apart any less than 4' in length. I will disassemble it as much as is practical to minimize shipping costs. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original Mid Century GERALD THURSTON design for LIGHTOLIER 3 cone floor lamp. The lamp is in Excellent Original Condition- the finish is very clean with no fading nor any damages. It has some very modest age wear but overall- this is an extremely nice example. All three switches and sockets work. The switches are original and the shades adjust/ have a range of movement- up or down. The lamps stands approx 62" at the tallest point with an approx 11" diameter base. It weighs roughly 10 lbs 10 ounces lbs as you see it. Lamp stands 19" tall and with shade 22" The lamp is in great vintage condition and can be used with or without the 16" x 5" clip white linen shade(shade stretchers and finial are nickel not brass- perfect! The lamp itself has some bumps and cruises however it is very presentable to use as is- if you are a perfectionist a quick spray paint will bring it to life. The lamp does not come with a lamp shade. It is marked with Pat. No. 2729473(1956) It is 24" tall to the top of the finial. 8" bottom diameter& 15 1/4" tall not including the plastic light diffuser. The switch is marked Keystone. Lamp works and the light bulb is not included in the auction. I am not sure if the socket was replace in the past. I have added a new socket extension so modern light bulbs will fit. The socket extension holds the metal harp on/down. Measuring as follows with shade at approx. 45 degrees in lowered position the lamp is approx. 49 1/4 inches tall and in tallest position approx. 59 inches tall, Shade: approx. 12 5/8 inch diameter, Tilting Arm: approx. 13 3/4 inches long, Base: 10 inches in diameter by approx. 1 1/2 inches tall. Astounding. And ASTONISHINGLY RARE Lightolier lamp, circa 1959-62 This is a Black one. And I also have a White one listed. I was fairly sure I had seen every important mid century Lightolier lamp in one form or another. Until I acquired this. Though Sarfatti, and Gaetano Sciolari designed for Lightolier this is no doubt a Gerald Thurston treasure. The elements that make up this modernist lamp include: lacquered metal-brass-walnut-plastic-glass(this piece is often missing) The plastic shade has a shiny brass sleeve that fits over the glass flute. A rather astonishingly complex list of well crated components for one lamp design. Condition: Small paint nick near the switch. Small hairline'stress lines' near top which are barely visible or a cause for structural concern. Original black enamel in very good condition. The creamy white plastic ... moreshade is in very good shape with no outside issues. Walnut is excellent. About 26 inches tall and 15 inches wide. This is a stunning modernist masterpiece.
