Here is a good example of an early 1950's Harry Bertoia for Knoll white coated Diamond chair. This is the larger size design. Span is 44 inches by 35 inches and seat height is 15 inches. Fully functional with a few loose welds(see photos) and is missing a one inch piece of wire but still in good usable condition. I am looking to get covers made for the chairs so this is before that happens Pickup is free In 1950 he moved to Pennsylvania and began a professional relationship with Hans and Florence Knoll. Who produced his only collection of furniture in 1952. It was so successful that Bertoia was able to live off the royalties and focus solely on his sculpture. He studied art and design in high school and college and finally, in 1937, won a scholarship to Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he met Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen and Walter Gropius. Bertoia’s furniture line for Knoll is made of welded ... moresteel mesh with a trapezoidal base. His famous Diamond lounge chair(images 1. 4& 5) his Bird chair(images 6& 7) and his Asymmetric Chaise(image 8) are particularly sculptural, and all his pieces share a biomorphic sensibility, managing to convey an organic, almost anthropomorphic warmth within their metal frames. Bertoia’s furniture line for Knoll is made of welded steel mesh with a trapezoidal base. His famous Diamond lounge chair(images 1. 4& 5) his Bird chair(images 6& 7) and his Asymmetric Chaise(image 8) are particularly sculptural, and all his pieces share a biomorphic sensibility, managing to convey an organic, almost anthropomorphic warmth within their metal frames. Harry Bertoia Diamond Lounge Chair for Knoll International Early Mid Century
Listed for sale is an all original Harry Bertoia diamond lounge chair made by Knoll International(also known as Knoll today) This particular example came from the estate of a Cornell professor. Who was an avid collector or exceptional designs. The wire chair itself is in nearly immaculate condition, while the pad does show clear signs of wear as can be seen in the photos. Some of the fabric has worn down in the area that one sits on, however, the chair is still perfectly functional and is still very comfortable with the pad as well. If desired of course, the pad can be taken off with ease. The original labels are also still present on the chair If interested in other modern designs. For sale are two Florence Knoll/ Harry Bertoia Diamond Chair covers in mustard yellow. This is the FIRST of TWO covers for sale(see my other listings for the second) These wool foam padded covers are 100% authentic. Including the original Knoll tags. The covers fit the regular sized Bertoia Diamond chair, and hook easily to the back of the chair. This cover looks great, with only small discolorations, but the foam of the cover has petrified and become rather lumpy. If you buy both. You only pay once for shipping!
