PAPUA AMULET Dani Tribe Baliem Valley Indonesia Tribal Art Keris etnography
Amulet from Dani Tribe. Baliem Valley, Papua Tribal Art from Indonesia. This is an original Amulet from the Dani Tribe of Central Papua. This is a Pig Jaw wrapped in a woven belt. For the Dani tribe a pig is a very important animal(sometimes women even brestfeed the baby-pigs) And sometimes pigs are sacrified in important traditional ceremonies, such as when a head of the tribe or kampung is passed away. The pig is shot with a bow and arrow in the heart on that kind of ceremonies. I found this amulet in the kampung house of a small kampung in Baliem Valley(see last picture) The size of this Dani Amulet is +/11 cm. For details see the large pictures I have experience in selling tribal art for the last 10 years. If any doubt please contact me. Please check the pictures and if there are any questions or you want to see more pictures do not hesitate ... moreto call me 00 31(0) 413-293900 or send me a email. Patrick.

Besides the ... morefact that the Asmat were head-hunters. They also“hunted for names” Every person was named after someone deceased, or after a killed enemy. A child was sometimes given a name only ten years after it was born, and after its village set out to kill a man from an enemy village nearby. They had to learn the name of the man they killed, and then bring his skull to their village. Only in this way could a person get a name. Asmat did not only hunt for skulls. They also worshipped them. The skulls of the deceased were stripped of the brain and the eyes and nasal parts were closed up in order to prevent evil spirits to enter or exit the body. Skulls that were modified and decorated in this way, were displayed by the Asmat in a honorable place in their long homes. Fortunately, the evil reputation of Asmat has become history. Antique Papua New Guinea Antique Wood Carved Statue from the Yamok Tribe
I have this very primitive Antique Wood Carved Statue from the Yamok Tribe in Papua New Guinea up for sale in very great condition for it's age. It measures 38" tall x 33" wide x 5.5" thick. I don't not know the exact age of this wood statue. But I'm told it's over 100 years old. This is a very cool antique wood carving and looks so much better in person, because it's so unique. This carving of a bird on the back of a young boy comes from the Yamok Village in East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. The bird plays a large part of their creation story. In the begging. The Yamoks say everything was fluid. The story told of this carving is a boy swimming across a river and an injured bird landed on his back and boy saved this bird and brought it to shore symbolizing the start of their civilization.
