Amulet from Dani Tribe. Baliem Valley, Papua Tribal Art from Indonesia. This is an original Amulet from the Dani Tribe of Central Papua. This is a Pig Jaw wrapped in a woven belt. For the Dani tribe a pig is a very important animal(sometimes women even brestfeed the baby-pigs) And sometimes pigs are sacrified in important traditional ceremonies, such as when a head of the tribe or kampung is passed away. The pig is shot with a bow and arrow in the heart on that kind of ceremonies. I found this amulet in the kampung house of a small kampung in Baliem Valley(see last picture) The size of this Dani Amulet is +/11 cm. Very rare from the remote Mountain Yali, photo 2 and 4 show how it is worn. They are grown to this very long size with the help of weights and this one has decorations of cuscus fur and cassowary(fierce ostrich like bird) feathers at the end. 2) The other one is from the Baliem Valley Yali tribe. I have this very primitive Antique Wood Carved Statue from the Yamok Tribe in Papua New Guinea up for sale in very great condition for it's age. It measures 38" tall x 33" wide x 5.5" thick. I don't not know the exact age of this wood statue. But I'm told it's over 100 years old. This is a very cool antique wood carving and looks so much better in person, because it's so unique. This carving of a bird on the back of a young boy comes from the Yamok Village in East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. The bird plays a large part of their creation story. In the begging.
