NICE INDONESIAN JAVAN KERIS DAGGER PAINTED HILT AND SCABBARD
Being offered is a nice and interesting Indonesian Javanese keris dagger. Age is unknown on this piece but my guess is that it was made within the last 30-40 years. However. The workmanship is very nice. The handle is Javanese and is painted depicting lovely floral scenes. The handle has nice lines. The scabbard is very nice and truly a work of art. The top scabbard piece is very nicely carved. The depressions carved into the wood, the upswept side, the long sweeping arc to the other side, is very nicely done. The entire scabbard is painted in wayang figures. There is an old break on the wide large section of the scabbard, right at the tip, that has been nicely repaired. The stem is brass covered. The brass nicely chased to one side. There is wood center piece running down the between the brass where it is wrapped at the back and this section ... moreis also painted. The blade, of pamor steel, has 5 wayang figures stamped into each side of the blade. An interesting feature. With the wayang figures on the scabbard and the blade, perhaps this keris is somehow associated with the folks that do the wayang puppet shows? I don't know.
