Aboriginal Bark Painting Cape York 1963
This early bark was collected in 1963 at Weipa in the Gulf of Carpentaria on the east coast of Cape York. Bark paintings from this area are rare and the only example I have had from this area was done by Thancoupie the renowned potter who was born in Weipa in 1937. This bark shares close similarities to it and with research I am sure could be attributed. The bark is irregular in shape and roughly hewn at the top and bottom. It depicts two figures around what appears to be a morning star pole. It has been done using earth pigments and measures 70cm x 23cm. Registered Post within australia will cost between $12US and $18US depending on the postcode. Airmail to the United States $42US and anywhere in Europe $55US

Aboriginal Bark Painting Mangawila Arnhem Land Djawa Australia Night Heron Totem
Hi. You are bidding on an original Aboriginal bark painting by Mangawila. Son of Djala, of the Gupapuynga Tribe in the Milingimbi region of Arnhem Land. Djala was one of the most important tribal leaders in Arnhem Land. He passed down sacred myths to paint to his son. Mangawila also inherited his mother's totems and myths, and this painting shows the night heron surrounded by bush tucker, one of her myths. When I got this bark painting, which measures about 18 inches by 10 inches and is on eucalyptus bark, there was a brochure folded around the hanging wire. The brochure appears to be from the 1960's. It describes in detail the history of Australian Aboriginal bark painting. I do not know the age of this piece, but I am imagining that it was contemporaneous with the brochure. The introduction describes the early tradition and the ... morefact that Arnhem Land in Northern Australia is the area where the ancient tradition of bark painting continues to flourish. The technique is very detailed but after the bark is prepared certain natural clays and rocks are used to achieve the ochres and manganese. The subject matter can be based on stories passed down from father to son. In this case, the father was Djala, a tribal leader. I am just describing in brief what is described in detail in the brochure. The painting is in good condition. I think you will be pleased with condition and quality and original source. I can send the brochure with the bark painting. Thank you.

VERY LARGE ABORIGINAL BARK PAINTING OF THE THUNDERMAN
VERY LARGE ABORIGINAL BARK PAINTING OF THE THUNDERMAN SIZE: 33cm x 133cm This very large painting is by Leslie Wulurk a Central Arnhem Land artist and is circa 1980s. It depicts the Thundermann. Here the Thunderman is holding his spear above his head, urinating to make rain. The background is composed of clan patterns. The square formations symbolise clouds, the vertical straight bands are paperbark trees and the horizontal ones are the ridges in the swampy lagoon country. VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? ABORIGINAL ART
VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? ABORIGINAL ART VERY EARLY KIMBERLEY BARK PAINTING JACK KAREDADA? This old bark painting was purchased at a local antiques auction in perth. It is at least 40 years old and painted in ochre and Kaolin on a smalll piece of thickish bark. From what I have read early Kimberley barks were often small and from my research the simple stick figures are most often often associated with Karedada family. Of the Karedada’s it was only Jack that painted on pieces of bark this shape. It is only attributed to him as there is no name on the back and it is my best guess. Some pigment loss and some warping of the bark and a stable crack. Large Old Aboriginal Bark Painting Unique "XRay" Style Lobster, Turtle and Skate
Large Old Aboriginal Bark Painting Unique"XRay" style depicted lobster. Turtle and skate 43.5 x 17 inches This is an outstanding aboriginal bark painting. It is 43.5" long and 17" wide. The scene depicts lobsters. Skates and turtles in an"XRay" style unique to the aboriginals. The bark is from the local gum trees that are stripped and dried. The condition of the piece is excellent. I have owned it since 1977. When I bought it in Alice Springs, Australia while on a six week trip around the continent. It was purchased from an aboriginal art community museum which exhibited local artists from around the territory. The original side panel branch straighteners are included. These keep the bark panel from warping inwards. This painting is very skillfully detailed on gum bark carefully rubbed with ground ochre to provide ... morea smooth surface. Then. The designs were painted with traditional earth ochres which are prepared by grinding. You will notice that more than two colors have been used. These aboriginal works are linked to the ceremonial song cycle dances which are part of the complex mythology of"dreamtime" spirit ancestors in the mystical past history of aboriginal culture.

Aboriginal Bark painting, Groote Eylandt, Dreamtime warriors by important artist
Aboriginal Bark painting. Groote Eylandt, Dream time warriors by Jabarrgwa(Kneepad) Wurrabadalumba(1896– circa 1969) SIZE: 24cm x 53cm Jabarrgwa(Kneepad) Wurrabadalumba(1896– circa 1969) Jabarrgwa Wurrabadalumba was one of the early recorded Groote Eylandt artists whose work was most likely collected by anthropologist Charles Mountford. Leader of the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land in 1948. Wurrabadalumba. More widely known as Kneepad, belonged to the Bara, or north-west wind people, and was born on Groote Eylandt, near Bartaluma. The Groote Eylandters produced many bark and cave paintings. This bark 1968 is titled early Dreamtime Warriors and illustrates a group of warriors armed with spears and spearthrowers. The background is a solid black, made from local manganese pigment, with the design laid on in yellow outline. ... moreOnly four colours are used: white, yellow, red and black. In a reversal of east Arnhem Land practice, the complex details of the composition are found within the figures, while the surrounds are left bare and the images seem to float in space. The simple black background was characteristic of Groote Eylandt and to a particular period before the influx of manganese miners which created a market for works with overall patterning and more complex compositions. Jabarrgwa(Kneepad) Wurrabadalumba work is held in institutional collections including· Art Gallery of NSW· National Gallery of Australia. National Gallery of Victoria This painting is in excellent condition for its age. And bark is straight with no cracking. FREIGHT: The purchaser is to pay the cost of shipping and handling. Robin Ngainmira Aboriginal Bark Painting Likanaya & Marrayka Oenpelli 36x10"
This is an Original AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL BARK PAINTING. By Australian Aboriginal Artist Robin Ngainmira, 1951-1991) It is inscribed on the reverse, and has it's Original Label from the Gunwinggu Tribe in the Openpelli area. I do not know its exact age but my guess would be from the 1970s- 1980s. It describes two women, Likanaya and Marrayka, of the dreaming time used to wander around western Arnhem land gathering food, which they placed in woven pandanus dilly bags. One day they came upon a waterhole at a place called Malwan when 2 men crept up on them and tried to grab them. The women slipped into the water and their feet changed into fishes' tails and they swam away from their assailants. On the Label on the reverse is the story of the painting. Robin Ngainmira belongs to a family of artists: his father. Jimmy Nakkurridjdjilmi ... moreNgainmira(1917-1982) and father's brothers, Bobby Barrdjaray Ngainmira(born 1915) and Peter Ngainmira(1927-1987) are all well-known painters.Robin Ngainmira takes after his father in his facility to render a great variety of animal species using the naturalistic x- ray technique. However, the manner in which Robin Ngainmira combines a multitude of figures within the picture frame to create highly animated scenes is unique. This painting is in very good condition and measures 36" by 9 3/4" wide. The reed strings show some wear but still intact. Colors include earth tones and white. It would make an Ideal Addition to any Good Collection of Fine Original Australian ABORIGINAL Art. Vintage Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting FISHING SCENE by Narabullgun 1975
For sale is a piece of vintage aboriginal art. This piece depicts a man and woman fishing. With aquatic life around them. It's a bark painting done in the traditional aborigine style. The piece is signed Narabullgun 75 in the right corner. I don't know much about the artist but I do see some other paintings by them floating around the'net. This painting measures 12 1/2" by 9" There is some minor paint loss here and there(see pics) and the piece itself is fragile from age. It's really interesting and it would make a great addition to ANY collection!
