There is some wear as pictured to the top of the hat. But it is in overall sturdy and good condition. This will be a wonderful addition to any collection! Hapag. Or hipag. Represent war deities who are invoked during divination and sorcery rituals as well as during healing ceremonies, acting as mediators between the supreme Ifugao deity. Kabunian. They can be carved as either anthropomorphic or zoomorphic figures. Often represented as humans, cocks, wild boars, or ducks, and serve as integral components of an Ifugao mumbaki's(priest/shaman) ritual paraphernalia. Which are traditionally found in punamhan, or ritual boxes. It is considered one of the most beautiful tribal ornaments of the Cordillerans. Worn only by the Isneg tribe of northern Apayao, This is considered the most important piece of personal adornment worn by men and women alike. This sipattal is composed of black. Yellow, blue and red tiny beads separated by dividers made from water buffalo horn. Twine of braided strings joins the two ends to a triangular mother-of-pearl piece, from this apex hang four rows of mother-of-pearl sections in butterfly-like forms( each about 1.35 inches across) dangle. Taking a head helped a man to tame his wild emotions and passions, quieting his restless spirit and allowing knowledge and maturity to gain control and grow. Antique Plaited Kupit Bontoc Basket Philippines Igorot Luzon Rattan
Two piece antique basket from the Philippines. Overall measurement is 12" tall x 15" wide x 8" Other than handle strap being frayed in one spot it is in pretty good original condition. It has not been cleaned. I found the following online regarding these: These kupit were used to transport the Cordilleran's travelling essentials- tobacco. Documents, betel chew, fire making, implements, and other valuables. The scarce literature usually shows the kupit being worn by the male. The Bontoc are another of the indigenous. Oft-quoted inhabitants of the mountains of Northern Luzon. Directly west is the Province of Ilocos Sur, of which they share a portion of the Gran Cordillera range. Philippines Ifugao Igorot necklace"Pangalapang" The shell chokers' function is to impress- as status symbol. Worn by both the Ifugao male and female for ceremonial occassions. It was made of individual trapezoidal pieces of cut mother-of-pearl shell that are attached to a woven rattan. The first sighting of these ornaments written was on 1887 when Dr. Alexander Schadenberg. A german scientist who visited the Cordillera in 1887 described natives who"decorate the arms and ankles with rings or heavy brass wire. This auction is for lot of 2 old Philippines Filipino Igorot Luzon hunting arrows. Possibly from Cordillera region of Luzon. Not made by Negrito peoples(large steel blades instead of smaller points with multiple barbs) Bamboo shafts(similar to Japanese arrow bamboo) with large hunting broadheads shaped from old machete blades. Leaf springs etc. Tanged construction, secured with pitch covered natural fibers. Large bird feather(pheasant) fletchings still present but worn. Red-colored decorative crest. Uniform dark patina on both shafts. Measure 43" and 44" long with 4" and 5 1/2" points. Shipping includes reinforced packaging and appropriate insurance.
