A superb example of old. Genuine Asmat artifact. I would be comfortable in declaring that this item could be late 19th, early 20th. century in age, due to it's glossy patina and color that does not really translate well with my images. Quite large at 15 inches in length. The woven"drop" is in excellent shape, although it is dry and somewhat brittle as one would expect from an item of this age. A very old Asmat bone dagger from a cr.dile jaw bone. This animal was a monster! Surely a ceremonial dagger, the weight is approx. 1 kg and the dagger is 59 cm long. The woven cover is of newer date but not recent, the bone shows a extreme nice old using patina which shows that this dagger was in use over decades. For sale this second nice and characterfull Asmat dagger(not sure if Asmat; at least from New Guinea) A bit different kind of boone; a bit thicker. Perhaps the tigh? Simpler in style but nice with the open cut diamond shape. Nice patine and shiny. These were used by headhunters/cannibals/warriors worn through an armlet(see perhaps my other listing) on the upperarm. It was said that victims taken where brought in the canoo and killed in the bend of the river. Condition; excellent.
