An ancient shell ring made from the giant clam shell and used as a traditional form of currency in the Solomon Islands. It has a weathered early patina and retains the shape of the shell with the centre section carved into a circle. The surface has a few small cracks- none have been repaired and do not go all the way around. The ring is about 4 inches in diameter. The darker area at the bottom of picture six is a depression in the shell and so the width is much less in this area. It is smooth but for some fractures pretty much opposite the dark. Depressed area and on the other side of the disc. I've taken many pictures seemingly identical to try and capture the most accurate facsimile without the flash distorting the appearance too much. It is indeed a reflective and luminescent material.
