A well developed male figure carved with powerful shoulders, torso and strong, slightly flexed legs. Ovoid head displays engaging eyes that spiral out to end below the nose. There is an old chip with loss at the right eye. He stands upon a heavier style plain hook. At the back of the head is a substantially carved, protruding handle style hanger. quite a rare shell pubic cover worn by initiated men of the papuan gulf. made of one piece of giant shell and holes were drilled trough for wearing. as clearly is seen. The cover has been worn for years an years. the holes had to be re drilled because of wear. imagine how long that takes whil the shell is quite a durable material. a native repair is visible at the bottom. what for me at least. Makes it even more atractive. its clearly a valuable item for the owner and not easily replaced. the shel is almost 7 inches high. any questions. Please ask.

A nice old large sago bowl from papua new guinea. Sepik region. used to put sago in it with certain ceremonies. The bowl is made of 1 piece of wood and on both sides its decorated with crocodile- dog heads. with the typical sepik mouths and noses. The bowl is quite large. 32 inches, and collected in the late 60,s or early 70,s by a dutch man who worked there. It still has a crusty layer of sago remains inside. Its a nice old and used piece.
