You are bidding on this very nice Maori hand carved wooden staff. The staff is 25" long and carved the same on either side. Take a look at the close up pictures. The carving is incredibly well done. Up for auction is this batch of New Zealand Maori pieces. Included are two wall hangings on Tikis. They appear to be made of plaster I think. They each measure 26cm in length. Also included is a carved wooded paddle. It measures 74.5cm in length. All pieces are still in great condition for their age and are being sold as is. NEW ZEALAND MAORI CARVED WOODEN TIKI WALKING STICK CANE Antique Maori carved wooden walking stick. This example has the typical notch decoration which follows the natural twist of the wood. About a third of the way down there are two faces. One with moko designs, and both with very severe expressions. Late 19th or earliest part of the 20th Century. Consistent with most woodenware from this period it has had a varnish- Victorians and Edwardians did enjoy giving everything a coat of vanish but it remains a good strong piece of Maori art. Very good overall condition. Light wear to the surface and a slight split in the chin of the larger face but no serious damage. Rather than a hinged lid. This box has a drawer that opens from the front(see photos) This is one of the most decorative Maori carved wooden boxes that I have ever seen. It features a carved Maori Warrior in traditional dress with a spear. The back panel features a large Tiki design in the centre with two(2) standing Tiki on either side of the panel. The front of the drawer also features a Tiki design with paua shell eyes. The sides and top of the box are covered in detailed carvings. There is an extremely shallow and very stable superficial surface crack to the front face which is noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. Description This vintage circa 1950-60's Maori New Zealand treen carved wooden pen tray. Is nicely hand carved in the form of a tribal canoe. It has a large Tiki mask to the front with inlaid paua shell eyes and a scrolling fern frond design to each end and to the back, the top has a hollowed out well for pens etc. This lovely little piece has a nice old patintation to the lightly polished surface and is apparently unmarked.
