KRIS OLD PACIFIC ISLANDS COMBAT TYPE HORSE HAIR HANDLE THE STYLE TENDS TO SUPPORT 19TH CENTURY PRIMITIVE CONSTRUCTION. I KNOW JAPANESE SWORDS TELL A STORY IN RUST UNDER THE HANDLE THIS ONE MAY ALSO TELL A STORY. WOOD UNDER HORSE HAIR IS CARVED. THERE ARE NO THREADS BUT THE HANDLE SCREWS ON VERY TIGHT CLASSIC NATIVE SKILL MUST BE AT WORK HERE. THE SHIM MATERIAL IS A BURLAP WITH WOOD SHIMS. Based on collectors comments this is likely a 19TH Century object. I note that there is no modern soldering that I can detect and the collar is forged together. It appears that the collar is clad in brass or very thin plate. The more I examine this item the more I respect the craftsmen that made it. Outside of a knife. This appears to be a more utilitarian Kris short sword likely for battle, as opposed to the more fancy types you usually see. The give away appears to be a Horse Hair Bundle Braided wrap on the handle. This gives a better grip. The Blade is Double fullered on both sides. The blade is 13&3/8 in long overall length 18in. The sheath is 14&7/8 in Sheath Hilt is 5&1/8 in wide. Overall length in sheath is 19&½ Inches. It has six red and blue stones, glass? At the end of the blade above the blade cross piece. There are two hammered design panels on one side of the sheath and the other side is fully patterned hammered floral designs top to bottom. The edges also have full hammered designs. The wood hilt has very subtle wood engraving on one side. I estimate that this Kris was made either in the late 1800s or very early 1900s likely Pre 1910. I am not an expert on these swords but I believe my description is accurate. The age could be a great deal older. The tag indicates this was displayed in a collection at one time. Being offered is a superb Balinese knife with excellent carving to the handle including a mythical beast on the back of the grip. The knife measures 16" in total length and is very well made. The grip is horn with superb carving. The beaded feature above the brass ferrule is horn and very nicely executed. The horn grip has lovely carvings including a mythical beast face to the rear of the handle. It represents one of the Hindu gods with beaked mouth. Sharp teeth and tall crest. The blade is thick with a deep belly and is flat on one side and concave on the opposite side. The blade has some pitting and wear but overall is in good shape. A lovely well made knife. VERY OLD ANTIQUE BALINESE KERIS KRIS DAGGER SWORD WITH UNUSUAL HANDLE
Being offered is a very old Balinese keris kris dagger with a most unusual handle. The handle is done in wood with a spiraling nicely carved wrap around the handle effect that finishes with a head and face. The very bottom is recessed to accept a ferrule of some type. The wood has a lovely patina and is most unusual. Possibly a knife handle or handle from something else that has been repurposed as a keris handle. Or. It could be a very unusual one of a kind keris handle. The keris measures 19 1/4" out of the scabbard. The blade is an old one. Has deep pitting and rusting throughout. The scabbard is quite nice. It measures 20 1/2" and the top of the scabbard measures 8" It is a lovely wood, with very nice patina and well carved. Seems a bit long for this blade but the blade fits very well in this scabbard.
