And it is not too dirty and worn. Back side looks to be a red velvet or felt material. The ornate latch is present but does not work. The bindings are a little loose but still intact. This piece originally had cabinet card photos in it when I found it, and I have been selling off the cards separately. The picture holes roughly fit 6"X4" maybe 7"X5" cards. Pages inside are a little dirty in places and have some smaller tears here and there. Overall great piece to use with your photos or to display. YOU WON'T FIND ANOTHER! The other book looks to have a metal soldier on the front. Possibly a Civil War soldier. The front and back are a soft cloth material. Bindings are a little loose but still functional. This is a very old. Petite washstand that we have revived for your country, cottage, shabby chic, or seaside vacation home. This piece will freshen up any small space in your home. Your daughter or grand daughter would fall in love with this and want to claim it as her own. The finish not only appears soft, but is soft and velvety to the touch as well. The flower embellishments are hand painted, not stencils. There is a single drawer, a lower cabinet with 2 doors, and a backsplash with 2 small shelves. Gently used Victorian-period furniture. Having burled walnut panel dove-tailed drawers with glass drawer pulls, and three original marble slab tops. Circa 1885-1890's. Two small square drawers at the top. And two large, long drawers below. The piece is on the original four casters(wheels) No mirror- not sure if it ever had one. You can use this as a dresser. Vanity table, or convert it to a bathroom sink/vanity/counter. If you were to do a sink, you'd need to take the drawer bottoms off and somehow keep the drawer fronts on. Also great for storing old linens, clothes, and textiles. CONDITION: Excellent condition ... morewith a few minor scrapes. Scuffs, or scratches on either/both the wood and/or marble- nothing major. As to be expected, it could use a light cleaning and a good polishing before use, if not just to show it some love. Drawers slide as they should. All four casters present, although one keeps popping out of its hole if you lift it too high off the ground. Glass knobs may or may not be the original hardware. No key, but if you try a few sizes of skeleton/cabinet keys, you're sure to find one that will work the locks. Marble tops have no chips or cracks. No musty odors. From a smoke free home/environment. It is unfortunate that I have to picture this magnificent dresser vanity in my garage. There is so much clutter that it distracts greatly from this beautiful piece of furniture. Understand that it is for LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. It is one of the most magnificent pieces of furniture that you will ever find. The marble is a little pitted but can easily be filled in with some acrylic. This came from a large antique estate in Lenox Mass. One of the metal pulls has a piece missing but it can be found in one of the antique furniture stores on line. We are downsizing from our 18 victorian home and originally we paid 30 years ago $3500. There was a worn piece of wrapping paper around this little mirror. And just one piece of it was saved. The last photo shows that paper! It has"1 Augest Thonsen 1878" That's what it looks like to me, but maybe I'm not seeing it correctly! The overall size of this old mirror is 8" x 14 1/2" tall. The actual mirror size is 5 1/2" x 9 3/4" tall. An expert said it is diamond dust, but I can't guarantee that. The best way to tell if it really is diamond dust is when it's damaged. This one is in encased in wood with screws and has been in a dry climate(Denver) for over 136 years, so there's no damage! The"burled" walnut is a veneer, and that's easy to see when you look at the back of it!
