Antique Vtg Architectural Gate Post or Fence (solid) Cast Iron Bird Finial
This listing features an old. Solid cast iron bird finial. I believe it was on a gate or fence since it has a threaded post on the end. It is painted white and there is the usual weather wear to the paint with some rusting as shown. I think it is wonderful. There is still some threading left on the post. The bird measures 3 1/2" tall and is 3 1/2" wide. The threaded post is 1/4" long and 1/8" in diameter. It is heavy weighing over 1 pound unpacked. Too sweet! All items I sell are either vintage or antique. So, there may be some less than perfect condition factor. Please note that I will state if the item is in excellent or mint condition. The books& paper items may have a slight"boxed up" smell. I buy all my items from estate auctions, so, I do not know if the person had pets or was a smoker. Set of 6 HEAVY CAST IRON Vtg/Antique ACORN FINIALS Fence Gate Post Tops Caps 5" Beautiful set of 6 of vintage/antique metal acorn finials. I am not sure of the age but they appear to be quite old. I believe that they are cast iron. They are thick and heavy. About 3 pounds each. The finials are painted black and stand approximately 5" tall. The bases measure 3" x 3 1/4" at the widest point with the interior dimensions being somewhat smaller. There are screw holes at either end of the shorter sides to secure the finials to the top of a post. It looks as if there are screw remnants in these holes and they would probably need to be drilled out if you plan on using them as intended. 3 of the bases have breaks(see pics) There is some wear and flaking to the black paint( you can see other paint colors in some areas) and also ... moresome rust here and there. Overall great set with lots of character. Very nice for outdoor use or indoor display. Please be sure to super-size photos to better view details and accurately judge condition. Selling a vintage cast iron finial. It stands 5 inches tall is 3 inches at the wide spot and 1 1/2 at the top. Base measures about 1 5/8 and the hole in the bottom is 1 1/4 wide and deep. There is a hole on the side of this to attach it to whatever pole or fixture it is put on to. I suspect this may be from a Railroad fence. Light or some other Railroad use. It looks similar to other Railroad items I have found online. THIS IS A GUESS! T may just be a fence post finial.
