Up for sale: Beautiful newel post. Measures 55 inches high and 9 inches at widest point. It is 6 inches at the narrowest point. The finial is 6 inches high. A lot of work went into building this one. Salvaged from large house built at the turn of century. Quite sound. Does have some wear from a century of use. P art of it looks to have been panted many deca des ago. One of the nicer newels we have found. Quite majestic. And quite heavy. Shipping quote is for Federal Express. We can also ship for about $49 through Greyhound if you have a terminal nearby. From our experience it takes about a week to get to your terminal. They call you and give you 2 or 3 days to come and pick up. They charge a small fee for storage after that. Antique HUGE Carved Old Paint 1/2 ROUND VICTORIAN Architectural FINIAL Pediment ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL FINIAL DECORATION Wonderful antique large solid wood Victorian 1/2 round finial decoration measuring approximately 11" wide and 6" tall. Featuring an orb shape made from building layers of carved wood into a round form. It bears the original old weathered gray paint. Once a complete pediment ball, probably mounted to a stand or base, it retains part of the original wooden peg threaded through the back opening which would have held the two pieces together. Condition is good with lots of paint wear. Rubbing and loss as shown- stable age related wood shrinkage cracks, and general shabbiness from age- love it! I've always used this as a piece of architectural art- it makes an interesting statement standing alone on a table top or ... moregrouped with other unusual shapes. Antique 1882 Dark Wood Newell Post With Wooden Carved Light Fixture
This came from the back staircase of a historic victorian home in Wellington. Ohio that I am rehabbing. You are more than welcome to inspect and pick up in person. Right now it is in 2 pieces, as I found it. The light section is really heavy with a thick angular centerpiece with surrounding spindles. I would assume it is oak. Heavy dense wood, but I can't really tell for sure with the dark stain. I definitely would rewire. That is a light socket on top. Together they are 61" tall. With the newell post being 41" alone. 6" across. Some egg and dart trim is present around top, which can easily be repaired with new. Please ask any questions. Posted with

Large Antique Wood Furniture Finial. Pineapple Up for your consideration is this nice unusual antique wood furniture or architectural finial. Measuring about 6 1/4" tall. It is a rather pretty piece with a ball top to a bulbous center with carved leaf design coming off the bottom to the midsection, it has a peg dowel at the base, it has a flat section on the back at the center and at the base, I think the wood is walnut but cannot be certain. Nice piece with a primitive pineapple look.the peg has a diameter of about 3/8" the base is about 2" in diameter excluding the flat area, the flat area on the back is 2 1/2" tall and about 1 3/4" wide, the ball on the top is about 1 1/4" in diameter. Antique Architectural Federal Style Folk Art Hand Carved Eagle Pediments Finials
For your Federal Style Country Manse we have a Set of Two Antique Architectural Federal Style Folk Art Hand Carved Eagle Pair Pediment Finials from the late 1700's- early 1800's. These were recently mounted on iron stands for display. Using the original holes which go through from the top to the bottom in two places on each pair to host the iron rods that they are now fixed onto. Fairly substantial in size, each of these facing eagles actually measures 10" high x 13 1/2" wide x 1 1/4" deep(thick) and are ready for display on these stands that bring them up to 13" tall. Together they weigh 8 pounds 3.5 ounces including the iron stand. They show their age from alligatored varnish and a deepened patina to the wood. These look like they may have been painted over at one time. And have been dry scraped to remove the ... morepaint. They have cracks too, but not any that diminish their aesthetic value. The wood is a very dense, hard wood which appears to be either butternut or chestnut, neither of which is easy to come by any more. In 1870 there was a blight that wiped all the chestnut trees, with only a few coming back today, so since that time, chestnut has been very scarce. And with butternut wood, so many of those trees were logged off, and being such a slow growing tree, you don't see too many of them anymore unless on new plantations. Hand carved eagle figures are still considered the epitome of collectible American folk art pieces and are generally associated with the Federal style era in architectural design. Which is a period that ranges from 1780 to 1830, appearing most commonly on frames, furniture, building ornamentation, and as motifs throughout the making of textiles and American advertising ephemera. Antique, Hand Carved Draped Hearse Finials- An AWESOME Pair!
Up for auction is a truly unique pair of draped hearse finials from my father's wagon collection. These could be mounted on posts on either side of a gated entrance for a showy look! Use in new construction as a newel post surmount. Mantel ornaments or lamp bases as they could be drilled for wiring. Anyway you use them they are certainly one-of-a-kind and not to be missed. The quality on each is first rate! They each stand 17 1/2" high and 9" wide including the handles. Base diameter is 6 1/2" The Wood Flames can be removed as shown in the 5th picture. During fair weather Plumes were installed for the service. During inclement weather the Wooden Flames were in place. The draped side panels can be removed if you want as shown in pictures 8 and 9. VINTAGE CARVED MAHOGANY FLEUR-DE-LIS CREST: This is a very impressive and interesting carved crest. It is solid mahogany. Deeply carved in the traditional fleur-de-lis pattern. A black metal fleur-de-lis badge has been added to the center of the crest. The crest is approx. 19" tall x 11 3/4" wide x 5 1/2" deep. There are a few missing end pieces at the bottom carving, and there is a missing piece on the right side of the upper carving. The missing pieces do not detract from the overall visual impact of the crest. A handcut/drilled hole has been made at each side of the piece. The finish is satin oil-rubbed dark mahogany. A drilled hole in the back of the crest is used for wall mounting of the piece.

UNUSUAL CARVED MAHOGANY FINIAL: This is a very nicely carved acanthus leaf finial. The finial is attached to it's original 1 3/4" ht. x 5" sq. solid mahogany base with the original square nails. The base has a small missing section at the bottom edge near one of the corners. It also has some nail holes.from where it was attached to it's post. The overall height of the mounted finial is 14 1/2" The carved round center body is approx. 4 3/4" diam. The finial also has a 4 3/4" circular base pad. But! The outstanding feature of the finial is it's open, see-thru, vertical acanthus leaf spire. All four long vertical leaf sections are separated by an open void. One of the spire leaves has it's tip missing, but other than that the carved finial is in excellent condition. Up for auction is a unique vintage antique woodenware gold painted relief carved rose or flower finial or end cap recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. It is found in good used condition with pedals opening to revel an open center. There are chips and losses to the wood, as well as to the original gold paint. Please see the photos for details. All being said, this finial shows wonderful architectural qualities. There are two mounting holes in the base, best seen in photo#5.
