We are uncertain as to the material, but it appears to be thickly-metal-plated, and may be wood under the plating. It is about 3-1/2" diameter, 3-1/2" tall, plus the 2-7/8" bolt. WELCOME! This listing is for a pair of metal finials that are teal/grean/blue in color. They are metal. Maybe tin? Or Aluminum? They are fairly light weight and gray metal color on the inside. The pieces measure approximately 34 1/2" high and 10 7/8" square at the base. The finials have some wear but are in overall very good condition. I do not know the age or origin but they are very cool old pieces that would look great in your home or garden. They can be repainted to your liking. VERY LARGE RARE SALVAGED ANTIQUE SOLID BRASS FINIAL 4" - ALMOST 1.50 POUNDS !
This is very unusual and rare antique solid brass and very very heavy finial weighing almost 1.50 pounds. It measures almost 4 inches tall and 2 inches wide. The patina is rich and beautiful! We found this in one of MANY boxes of lighting and door knobs etc. in my fathers basement workshop. We live in the center city Philadelphia art museum area where our 3 story federal style homes were built in the 1870s. People were always throwing the original fixtures out in the 1950s and 1960s to MODERNIZE but my father always collected them. NOW they are putting back what the last generation tore out and threw away. I dont really know anything else about this finial. Thanks for looking at my fathers finial. Offered is this antique finial. Curtain tieback, that is stamped with a Gold Crown. It definately appears to be from the 1800's. This belonged to a family member that acquired many beautiful antiques from the 1800's. The patinated bronze medallian contains the chariot theme with a cherub and 2 lions. The deep green glass is free of any cracks or chips.but the gold trim design is worn! A very large finial that measures 9" long x 7 1/2" wide at base. UP FOR AUCTION IS A VERY RARE AND UNIQUE PIECE OF RELIGIOUS HISTORY. A BRASS WRAPPED WOODEN FINIAL CROSS OFF A CHURCH THAT IS BEING REMODELED IN A SMALL TOWN IN IOWA. THIS CAME OFF THE BELL TOWER WHICH WAS BUILT IN 1904, 8 YEARS AFTER THE CHURCH WAS BUILT. IT'S A WOODN CROSS WRAPPED IN, I BELIEVE, BRASS SHEETING. IT'S BEEN LEADED TOGETHER AT THE SEAMS AND HAS SMALL BASS NAILS TACKING IT AT THE BASE. IT IS 3 1/2 FEET FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BRAS WITH ANOTHER 6 INCHES OF WOOD. I have not seen one item online(internet-ebay or anywhere) with a similar item for sale or show.My description is the best I can figure from all my research.I am not 100% sure if it is Brass Bronze or Iron although the darkened patina inside without any blue tarnish makes me rule out brass. It was purchased back in the late 60's or early 70's while on tour of the Tibetan area by a world traveler. It measures 9 1/2" Tall and 4 1/4" Wide and even though it is hollow inside weighs over 4 pounds.The armless body has holes.Possibly to attach fencing and the bottom to stand on a fence post. Authentic Antique Flat Black Cast Iron Horse Head Hitching Post Finial - RARE!
From a farm in western Oklahoma this was one of two original hitching post on the farm. My father picked this up at least 30 years ago and may have been closer to 40 years ago. He cleaned it and painted it with flat black paint and it has been on his book shelf until now. A great peace of American western history

THE TOP SPIKE/ SPEAR IS 6 3/4" LONG X 2" X 2" WIDE AT THE BASE. EACH SPIKE IS THREADED FOR A 3/8" IN DIAMETER SCREW. THE BASE PART OF THE FINIAL IS 3 1/4" WIDE AT THE BOTTOM X 2" TALL.
